Outdoor plumbing....still what is expected in #LindenGuyana (and maybe other parts of #Guyana). And, why not? It is sunny and bright all year round - no cold or snow to worry about.

#Mints....I think I need a big packet of these. Reminds me of a particular driver in Linden. Once, on an early bus to Georgetown, I started feeling really sick/ill. The driver must have noticed because he reached over and offered me a mint. It made me feel so much better. #mintstosavetheday #LindenGuyana #GuyanaSouthAmerica #transportation

Flooding Due To Rain
The rain led to flooding in some areas in Linden. The flooding is affecting many residents who must have complained and expressed dissatisfaction with the clearing/draining of flood waters. I just read an article online on the situation. It appears that the complaints led to some action. Rain may be continuing for a while so I hope the actions taken would prevent additional flooding in the future.
Thankfully, there is no flooding in my neighborhood.

Guyana's Independence
The event celebrating Guyana's Independence in Manhattan, New York was very interesting. I enjoyed watching the ceremony. I'm happy I caught it on Facebook. I was not aware of the event beforehand.
I believe there will be a flag raising ceremony in Linden. My mother told me about decorations around town.

My Diet; Food
Good morning from Linden, Guyana! It is a warm and beautiful morning here in Amelia's Ward. I feel like having a fruit salad for breakfast.
I had lots of papaw recently. I am enjoying the fruit here in Guyana. My diet also includes a lot of fish and chicken (similar to my diet in the United States). I had a lot of broth and stews. It is all good.
I just watched a chef prepare a delicious-looking salad. It has been a while since I had a regular (vegetable) salad.

Update
Good morning from Linden, Guyana! My sister is here from Maryland, USA. She is sure to enjoy the Linden Town Week activities. I am certain she will be hanging with her friends at a lot of the events. Maybe I'll be right there with them.
Two days into Linden Town Week and I have not yet attended any of the events. There are over 5 days left.
Right now, I wish I could be somewhere by the water working on my paper. I plan to work on the paper all day today so I will finish on time. An ideal location for working would be sitting by a peaceful lake enjoying the 'quiet' activity around such as swans floating in the sparkling water. I would get a lot done!
I had quite a lot to eat. I hope I don't fall asleep.

Linden Town Week
Somehow, it did not register that Linden Town Week starts today. I had a look at the calendar of events. Everything looks good. Maybe I'll be out and about this weekend after all. Linden Town Week seems to be a new version of the old Linden Fair.

Limes vs Lemons
Good morning from Linden, Guyana! I went out for a short walk today. It appears that it would be a good day.
Back in the U.S., I used a lot of lemons. (Do you recall my post on lemons? See it here: https://fahmeenaodetta.blogspot.com/2023/07/lemons.html). Recently, I wanted lemons but got limes instead. I don't mind using limes as a substitute for lemons. Limes are smaller than lemons but more sour/acidic. The lime drink is as good as lemonade.
I grew up with a lot of limes around. We even used them at school sports. I recall there was a lime spoon race at Watooka Day School sports.

Kite Flying
Going back in time to last time I went kite flying on Easter Monday in Linden. I was about 12 years old. That year, as in previous years, I had a kite made by my father. The family went out to the dyke near my grandmother's house - a wide, open space with a lake - to fly our kites. It was a sunny day good for kite flying. My kite went up with ease and stayed up in the air for hours and hours. Late in the afternoon, there was a mishap. The kite's string was accidentally cut, which caused the kite to float away to a place far away. One of my cousins went with me to find the lost kite. We found it miles away at the ground by the Trade School. The kite was in bad shape when we retrieved it. It had holes and tears.

Breakfast; Easter; Starbucks
Good morning from Amelia's Ward, Linden, Guyana! It is a good morning. I am having coffee and cross buns (thanks to a friend of my sister who must have made lots and lots of cross buns for her family). I wanted cross buns and a kite for Easter. I have the cross buns. I hope I get the kite soon. I heard that kites will be sold nearby. I am enjoying the coffee although I prefer tea (because of less caffeine, and so on). I made Starbucks instant coffee. I did not purchase the Starbucks instant coffee from a store in Guyana. It came from the U.S.
It has been a while since I purchased something I like from a Starbucks store. I shopped at Starbucks quite often. I remember when I purchased a grilled cheese sandwich and a frappuccino from Starbucks New Carrollton the day I planned to go see Wakanda Forever (see pictures here: https://fahmeenaodetta.blogspot.com/2022/11/out-and-about-nov12.html). I planned to see the movie at the Regal Cinemas over 5 miles away in Bowie, Maryland. I did not get to see the movie. I know a Starbucks store opened in Guyana nearly a year ago. Maybe I'll be able to visit the store sometime when I'm close to Amazonia Mall on the East Bank.

Downtown Areas
I stumbled upon an interesting article on developing downtowns. Here it is: https://www.bdcnetwork.com/investing-downtowns-pays-cities-regions?page=3
More economic/business activity should lead to more demand for office and manufacturing space, which should lead to more investment in downtown areas. In Guyana, Georgetown has the largest and most established downtown area (which makes sense as it is the capital). The downtown area is expected to grow as economic/business activity increases. Linden's downtown area is, of course, not as established/developed. Linden is a small town that depended on bauxite as its main source of income. The bauxite company's office buildings and other facilities were probably the downtown area.
I was in Linden's main downtown area (sometimes referred to as "down-the-road" from Amelia's Ward) a few times recently.

Update; Recent foods
Good morning from Linden, Guyana! I went out for a very short walk today. I don't believe it is Monday morning already. The weekend went by in a flash.
My mother made "some nice macaroni stew" on Sunday. I enjoyed it. I also had some callaloo recently. That was good too. Recently, my mother has been making different dishes and sharing with others. She reminds me of my grandmother. My grandmother made really good macaroni stew. Casareep fish was one of her specialties. The neighbors seem to share with each other.

It is hot in Linden. There is a nice breeze today which makes it feel not-so-hot. I am lucky that I am indoors and cool.
