The new Polypterygia tree!

Not a whole lot changed outside of species being added. But piscine wyverns finally got a scientific name and Somnacanth has its own family of leviathans. Because this is just building off the last iteration, there is still fanon and recontextualizing and reworking many outlandish traits some of these monsters have and basically giving some of canon/what some of the hunters guild tells us the middle finger for the sake of more interesting theories.

Once again thanks to @mayfly0678 for the name “Polypterygia” and Lizardwizard for the spore theory.

And of course, here’s the almost 20,000 word google doc to go with it.

Now I have to do the same thing with bird and flying wyverns, except I have to make a document from scratch for it… ughhh

4. Your current campaign.

I have several going at the moment. I dm two (and a half) and play in four, scheduled to play in more too. I play as Rust (elven sorcerer), Cassian (wood elf druid), Frearyck (half-elven sorcerer/warlock) and Moké (half-god son of Ba’al).

6. Favorite death (monster, player character, NPC, etc).

Oh I loved Kilian’s death in the first campaign I ever was in/was the dm. That was entirely reliant on some good rolls and they were made. Amazing.

As for a death that wasn’t seen, I’d chose Aurelian. Dude was pushed into a poisonous lake by his wife on their honeymoon.

8. Your favorite fight/encounter.

That’s a good one. I kinda chose the driders because for the first time it did NOT end like I planned it to. Llylt was born out of the flirting you know.

10. Your favorite enemy and the enemy you hate the most.

I… That would be a spoiler. As for the one I hate the most it would be the king in the campaign I play as Cassian. Dude is the worst!! (Might not be the true enemy after all but we’ll see)

12. Your in game inside jokes/memes/catchphrases and where they came from.

#You’reADwarf??? said by Uschi after a few sessions. The player totally forgot that the other player plays as a dwarf. That was fun. Also #UselessMonk Rasha. Got better recently though. The fact that the party always seems to aquire a pet in my campaigns (Ismael and the grick). The fact that sometimes, clerics really aren’t that useful in a fight at all (bc they roll too low). LizardWizard. Mr. Socks. I can go on.

14. Introduce any other parties you have played in or DM-ed.

I’m gonna introduce the most whack game we’ve ever played. it was homebrew-style Call of Cthulhu. I played as Franz-Joseph, a spy in the first world war. Our group was tasked with finding Russian deserters in a village, we did NOT find any at all. Our party consisted of my useless closeted gay spy, another spy (whom poor Franz-Joseph had a crush on), a russian captive, an older soldier who was So Done With It All, a war medic and a pyromanic priest who finally killed us all by trapping us in a burning church.

Long story short, all the spies got insane after a while, the war medic was the only one getting seriously injured, we killed a dog and the true culprit managed to not only kill our commander, but also got the priest to kill us all.

It was really fun though.

16. Do you play online or in person? Which do you prefer?

I play both but I do prefer in person. Snack wars, athmosphere and music. 

18. Does your party keep any pets?

OH YEAH THEY DO. Grick and a pixie. Also horses. And Cassian has a familiar weasel.

20. How did you get into D&D? How long have you been playing?

I got into dnd after watching critical role and then I was the one “with the most experience” (basically none but eeeeh) so I ended up dming my very first game. I have been playing since…. september ‘16? I think??

22. What color was your first dragon?

Black… I mean the first one you guys met.

24. How much planning/preparation do you do for a game?

Oh it depends entirely on the game! I have a group where I use almost a whole day for planning and then I have another group where I plan for 3 hours at most. Because they’ll fuck up and do something else anyways so I improv a lot.

26. What was your favorite scene to write and show your characters.

28. How often do you use NPCs in a party?

I used one in my first campaign (Pakk, the war cleric who ended up becoming king). BUT he often got forgotten in fights so nowadays I just have NPCs that might fight but aren’t constantly there. Just flavor really. The party is the main focus.

30. Are your players diplomatic or murder hobos?

………………………………. I mean the fact that your group murdered Greta in cold blood………

34. Do you tend pick weapons/spells for being useful or for flavor?

Oh I definitely pick them for usefulness. But Frea recently picked up some things I reckon are gonna be flavors that might just come in handy at a certain point of time. We’ll see. 

I started picking spells for Frea that were not being useful in a fight but rather being what he would have learned in his life. That means he has good stuff for non-fight situations that might seem more like flavor.
