The cutscene mentioned is one where Amy hugs a confused Shadow while she says, “I thought I’d never see you again! I’m so glad you made it!” It’s their classic, infamous first meeting from Sonic Adventure 2. I’m sure the vast majority of shadamy fans have seen it plenty of times, but if you want a refresher, it’s the first one in this compilation. She only hugged him because she mistook him for Sonic, but it’s still an adorable first encounter, especially if you read it as a “how I met your mother” scenario like I do.

I think the issue with Sonic Heroes--and why they didn’t show Team Rose meeting Team Dark--is that it likely would have played out in much the same way: she’d hug Shadow out of relief upon finding him alive and say the same thing, no mistaken identity required, but he had amnesia at the time, so he’d just respond with confusion like the first time. It would be adorable but redundant. Still a shame they didn’t get to interact in that game, though.

The headcanon I linked above is quick and still worth reading if you ask me. I also have a more recent headcanon that explains why that meeting left a good impression on Amy in SA2 and how it led to her trusting him at the end of the game despite not knowing him well. I think there’s a lot more to that meeting than meets the eye. It’s not just a silly scene, it’s the first humanizing moment for him and sets the stage for their fateful encounter later on.
