which me do you want? - teaser
genre: sci-fi, android!au, fluff
pairing: park jimin x reader
word count: 687
summary: after deciding you’d had enough of being lonely, and having nothing to lose (other than a good chunk of change), you invest in an android from filtr industries.
a/n: i listened to filter one too many times and this was made lmao. idk what i’m gonna do w this but i was tired of it sitting in my drafts. lmk what you think! again, this is just a teaser/drabble/what i cranked out one afternoon instead of doing schoolwork, so it’s pretty short. its also not proofread oops anyways maybe enjoy ily ⁽˙³˙⁾
Aside from the basic instructions on how to care for it, the android showed no indication of how to be turned on. Along the packaging were reviews detailing how much buyer’s lives had improved once they received their companion bot.
I can’t believe I used to spend my weekends alone. Now that I have Hobi, I’m happier than I have been in years. - Johnny, 34, on purchasing the Hoseok-021994
Getting RM was the best decision I’ve made, other than divorcing my ex. Smart, funny, and doesn’t talk back. Every woman’s dream! - Hana, 26, on purchasing the Namjoon-091994
I know a lot of people purchase these for romantic relationships, but having Chungha in my life helped me heal from losing my sister. It’s like a part of her is still here, having someone fill that hole in my life. - Lily, 23, on purchasing the Chungha-021996
The overarching theme was overwhelming satisfaction with their androids, no matter the reason for purchasing. You wanted to feel that too, if only you could figure out how to turn the damn thing on. In the name of realism, the skin was as smooth as human flesh, and because of that there was no clear power button. The android you chose, the Jimin-101995, looked as if he was peacefully asleep, aside from standing straight up. Not quite falling in his eyes, his plain black hair laid flat over his forehead, working with the gentle highlight where the light hit his face to make him appear angelic.
You’d seen a handful of androids out in public with various styles. Some had intense makeup, flashy outfits, and ridiculous hairstyles, while others had more casual and laid back looks. It all depended on what the owner wanted, and that’s what Filtr profited from.
You can pick and choose me had been their slogan since they debuted the Companion series. Each android was able to be customized in every way imaginable to fit the buyer’s taste. In previous models, the owner could only choose from a handful of custom options when ordering online, but the newest editions could be modified in an instant thanks to the scientists working at Filtr Industries.
Thinking back to the unboxing videos you’d watched prior to ordering, you recalled several of the androids turning on with a call of their name. Slowly setting the instruction pamphlet down,  you turned toward your new...friend? You weren’t exactly sure how to refer to the android. You didn’t exactly see him as a pet, like many that used the “owner” title, but you also didn’t want to be like those headlines where people try to marry a robot because you let your feelings get carried away. Companion it is, you decided.
As you turned to walk towards him, you couldn’t help but be taken back by how human he looked. Feathery eyelashes rested on his supple cheeks, only further adding to the overall cherubic aura. All that was missing was a pair of wings and a cloud to sit on. When you finally stood face to face with him, you let out a sigh. Your nerves kicked up a storm low in your stomach, unsure of how this would go. He was programmed to be good, to be a good companion. It was just like adopting a dog. If the dog cost thousands of dollars and could be made to be any color under the sun.
Shaking out your hands, you took a deep breath.
“Uh, Ji-Jimin?” you anxiously let out.
A low whir kicked up across from you, and you watched as color slowly rose to his cheeks. It was as if life was flowing into him. Glancing down, you saw his chest rise like he was taking a deep breath, and his fingers twitch and the whirring noise got louder.
From the areas that weren’t covered by clothes, a light glow appeared to emulate from under his skin before fading back to normal. Then, the whirring cut out. Steeling yourself for whatever came next, you looked back up at his face.
Those delicate eyelashes fluttered and he opened his eyes.
Jimin was awake.
