Fictober22 -- Day 23
Fandom: TXF
WC: 1197
[Set vaguely in Season 3]
Walter Skinner rubbed his temples, trying his damndest to keep his mounting headache at bay. His eyes were threatening to cross every time he read over the report again and again. Agent Mulder’s report had been boldly nonsensical--which wasn’t terribly unusual. What had been strange was that Agent Scully’s report was similarly phrased. The words ‘unexplained’ ‘disappeared’ and ‘we have been unable to pick up a trace again’ rattled around his brain.
Three days they were in Washington state, and their efforts to understand the strange goings on had been less than fruitful. At this stage in the game, he came to expect fanciful retellings from Mulder, but for Scully to not even attempt to find a way to explain this sat peculiarly in his stomach. So he called the pair to his office.
His secretary informed him the agents had arrived, and he took another moment to compose himself. He hoped to avoid a conversation that might embarrass them all, but his suspicions had been mounting for quite some time. When he poked his head out of his door, his suspicions had been all but confirmed.
Agents Mulder and Scully sat on the couch, shoulders pressed together. Mulder leaned down to whisper something to Scully, making her giggle. Skinner was certain Mulder would see him standing in the doorway, but to his surprise, the agent instead just smiled down at his partner, as if they were the only two in the room.
Skinner cleared his throat abruptly, startling the two and collecting their attention.
How bold of them, Skinner thought with irritation, even in front of his secretary.
“Agents,” he announced, “My office, now.”
The pair followed him in, taking respective seats across from his desk. Skinner remained standing a moment, regarding the agents before retaking his chair.
“What happened in Washington?” Skinner pressed.
Scully shifted uncomfortably in her seat, but Mulder shrugged.
“Weird shit, sir,” Mulder replied.
Skinner’s eyes flicked to Mulder. In his peripherals he saw Scully heave a sigh.
“To use Bureau terminology,” Mulder concluded.
“Weird shit?” Skinner repeated, picking up Mulder’s report, “I’m to understand that you were unable to apprehend the culprits behind the slayings?”
“That’s correct, sir,” Scully replied softly.
“But you ‘feel strongly’ that those responsible will not cause any more issues?”
Scully nodded, lacing her fingers together nervously, “Agent Mulder and I…had a…strange encounter…”
Skinner’s eyes narrowed.
I bet…
“And…I believe that what was responsible was a large animal of some kind. Possibly a wolf or a bear.”
“Not a person?”
“Not exactly,” Mulder shrugged.
Scully held her breath.
Skinner leaned back in his chair, setting down the report, “And what do you believe, agent Mulder?”
Mulder pursed his lips. He gave a glance to Scully before returning his gaze to Skinner.
Yeah, Agent Mulder, Skinner thought in annoyance, Get your stories straight, first.
“I agree that what was responsible was an animal of some kind, though not a wolf or bear.”
“Not a wolf or bear?”
Mulder shook his head, “No.”
“Then what?”
Mulder sighed, “Well,” he reclined in his chair, “If I knew we wouldn’t have used the word ‘unexplained’ quite so much in our reports.”
Skinner sighed, a long and lengthy sigh, “Look…local authorities seemed pleased with your work.”
Mulder’s face began to lift into a smile.
“Though they were also vague about the particulars,” Skinner concluded.
“So…” Mulder pressed, “Everything is…good?”
Skinner’s eyes narrowed again. He leaned forward, steepling his fingers as he chose his language carefully.
“There something goin’ on that I should know about?”
Scully quirked her brow, “Sir?”
Skinner poked his tongue between his teeth, debating whether to remain cryptic or speak candidly, “There are certain rules and procedures here at the Bureau,” he turned his gaze to Mulder, “Though I know you care about regulations as much as a bear minds shitting in the woods.”
Mulder pursed his lips.
“However,” Skinner continued, “There are some lines I’d prefer that you didn’t cross. I’d like you to maintain some level of professional ethics, and if something happened over the weekend that impacts your abilities to do your jobs in this professional manner, tell me now.”
The pair stared at him blankly, but then Scully looked away, licking her lips and seeming to be deciding something.
He knew Mulder wouldn’t be the one to admit they were sleeping together, as if his behavior was doing him any favors in keeping it a secret. Scully on the other hand, she followed rules. She thrived on professionalism and procedure. He was only mildly surprised at her blatant disregard for the ‘no fraternizing’ rule--after all, it didn’t require one to be a master profiler to see how they behaved around one another. What did surprise Skinner was offering the chance for her to fess up and watching her refuse to take it.
“Look,” Skinner continued, “I’ve covered for you both before, not just on this.”
Scully’s eyes widened.
“I’ve countered rumors, dispelled notions about your conduct…” Skinner shook his head, “Don’t leave me hanging out here. I think I’ve earned that trust.”
Scully looked at him pleadingly before glancing to Mulder.
Come on, Scully, have the decency to admit it to me.
“Like we said, sir,” Mulder began, “It’s still unexplained.”
Scully looked relieved, and Skinner was disappointed.
I can’t protect you both from consequences if you get caught…
Mulder stood from his chair, lifting a brow, “Was that all?”
Skinner sighed, shaking his head in frustration, “That was all, agents.”
Scully rose to join her partner, heading for the door.
“Agents,” Skinner called after them.
They stopped, turning back to look at him.
“Be smart, okay?” Skinner pleaded, “I’d hate to see you two blow your careers for this.”
Mulder nodded, but Scully looked uneasy.
The door shut behind them, but before they had even gone back into the hall, Skinner caught the tail end of Mulder’s words.
“...think he’s onto us?”
Skinner put his face in his hands.
These idiots were going to get caught and he had little faith a meeting with HR would get them to end their relationship.
-----
“Think he’s onto us?” Mulder chuckled.
Scully sighed, shaking her head as she followed Mulder into the hall.
“There’s nothing to be onto,” Scully insisted.
“Aw, c’mon Scully,” Mulder sighed, stepping to the side so Scully could join him at his hip, “You know what we saw.”
“You saw what you saw and I saw what I saw,” Scully pressed, letting out a huff of breath.
“‘Werewolf’ isn’t a dirty word, Scully,” Mulder laughed, pressing the elevator call button.
Scully’s eyes snapped shut, “Stop saying that.”
“A bear?” Mulder pressed, shaking his head, “Come on, you know what it was.”
“I don’t, and neither do you,” Scully told him flatly.
Mulder gestured for her to enter the elevator first and she did wordlessly. Scully tapped the basement button rapidly, wanting to be back in their office as soon as possible.
“You know if you press it more times, the elevator actually goes faster,” Mulder told her.
She shot him a look.
“Little known fact,” Mulder finished.
“Shut up, Mulder,” Scully sighed, crossing her arms.
The doors shut and they began their descent.

////

////

The bank wants to increase its local presence
Tumblr media
Time, attention and a whole team for you and your business. It is not common at banks today, but is something that is a high priority at Södra Dalarnas Sparbank. Here, the local presence is important. They show this not only through a continued investment in local offices - but also by giving back to the local area.
Understanding the financial needs of customers, whether they are individuals or companies, is only possible if one maintains a closeness to the customers who need help, believes Södra Dalarnas Sparbank.[1] They have had a local presence for almost 187 years, today there are offices in Säter[2] and Hedemora[3] and shortly a meeting place will open in Borlänge[4]. “Our strength is that we can be where our customers are and they should be able to contact us and have a visit or visit us when the need arises”, says Johan Rydhult, office manager at Södra Dalarnas Sparbank.
Faster than large banks
Södra Dalarnas Sparbank is a full-service bank, just like many other banks, but has a speed of decision-making and of the bank's approximately 40 employees, twelve are completely focused on corporate business. According to Johan Rydhult, it is beneficial: “We don't have to make detours, but make the decisions ourselves, and we can give our customers attention in a completely different way than what most major banks prioritize. It also results in high customer satisfaction, both among our private and business customers.”
Supporting the local community
Something that stands out for Sparbanken is the idea of circular economy and giving back to the local area. Every year they share their surplus to contribute to the development of society. Last year, they granted SEK 4 million to associations and projects in southern Dalarna.
“We invite all high school students in Säter, Hedemora and Avesta municipalities to a trip to the Riksdag[5] to learn about and understand democracy. We finance homework help for students who are at risk of not getting a high school qualification and have, among other things, helped with a pump track in Hedemora where young people can cycle downhill. We want to help people and companies to grow and to be involved in the business world in every way we can”, concludes Johan Rydhult.

The money is used for houses that are built, companies that are started and grow here. Annually, we give back around SEK 2 million to initiatives in Avesta, Hedemora and Säters municipalities. It can apply to culture, sports, associations, society, business or other things that contribute to a living society. https://sodradalarnassparbank.se/om-oss.html

[4] Borlänge is a locality in Dalarna County, Sweden, with 44,898 inhabitants as of 2020. It is the seat of the Borlänge Municipality with a total population of 51,604 inhabitants as of 2017.

I fratelli Marco e Sara Santacatterina
