I've been trying to immerse myself in #arthistory especially the work of artists I don't know much about. Do yourself a favor and head on over to @messynessychic and read their story from today about the life of #LoisMailouJones. I've fallen head over heels for her artwork and I think you will, too. #blackartists #blackwomenartists Apologies because IG doesn't crop the artwork the right way! https://www.instagram.com/p/CBE3Yj3Av-T/?igshid=1x07wpddj92lt

Offroute's weekly Art Inspiration is Loïs Mailou Jones! Jones was an American artist and educator. Born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1905, Jones' parents encouraged her to create. Her parents owned a house on Martha's Vineyard, where she met many artists, including sculptor Meta Vaux Warrick Fuller. She graduated from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, and received a graduate degree in design from the Design Art School of Boston before deciding to pursue a BA in art education from Howard University, graduating in 1945. Jones traveled extensively, and even lived in Paris in the 30's and 40's, where she was a well known artist. In the 1950s, she was a guest professor in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and later helped Howard University research and document contemporary Haitian art. In the late 1960s, she traveled to 11 African countries and interviewed contemporary African artists. In the 1990s, well into her 80s, she continued to produce work. In 1990, an exhibition of her work toured the United States and finally brought her work to national attention. She passed away in Washington, DC in 1998 at the age of 92. Her work is held in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, the National Portrait Gallery, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, and the National Palace in Haiti. #offroute #art #loismailoujones #womeninart #supportartists #supportlocalartists #supportyoungartists #supportsmallbusinesses #womanownedbusiness https://www.instagram.com/p/CN7yvVBhyP_/?igshid=12zmbm71f8k7y

✨#ThrowBackThursday ✨ *Razor Line with a Beard Trim & Shape Up* Just some Barber knowledge for you all.. The “Line Up” or sometimes called “Edge Up” is the most important/vital part of a haircut, that shows if you received a high Quality service from someone who pays great attention to detail/symmetry like a solid Professional Barber-Stylist should. It is like the finishing touches of when a painting artist such as #AaronDouglas, #JacobLawrence, #LoisMailouJones, or #PabloPicasso frames their artwork to bring out all the intricate details of the painting. Some people get their haircut and go a week or two until their next service but as a Licensed Professional Barber I suggest that people get their hair cut one week and a fresh line up the following week to keep a clean and spiffy image at all times. Special S/O to my Big Bro and one of my Mentors @drjaythegroomer for BLESSING me on this day with a RAZOR SHARP line and getting me picture perfect for my Wedding Day. A new Line Up/Edge Up will definitely get you all the way back in the game, no matter what kind of hairstyle you have, or how long/short your hair may be💈😎💈 ▪️Currently my prices for haircuts are $26 for Kids 13yrs & under, $32 for Young Adults 14-18yrs, $36 for college students 19-21yrs and $42 for Adults 22yrs & up. ▪️2 Stage Hot Towel Facials are $1.50 per minute. ▪️House Calls are available upon scheduling one week in advance. $100 for any adult services, $75 for teenagers, and $50 for any kid services. If you would like to schedule an appointment with me to get That_T_WiLL_Special🍀™️ or have any questions on what services that I offer you can call or contact me via-text @ 405-625-5315. #PositiveVibesOnly 💈 #AllPraiseToTheMostHigh #GodGivenGift #StriveForGreatness #GrindHard #StayHumble #BarberLife #BarberArt #BarberLove #BarbershopConnect #LittleRockStylist #ArkansasStylist #FayettevilleBarber #LittleRockBarber #ArkansasBarber #FayettevilleArkansas #SpringdaleArkansas #Bentonville #BentonvilleArkansas #RogersArkansas #SiloamSprings #NWAArkansas #GettingBetterWithTime #WilliamsMade #MayTheWorkIveDoneSpeakForMe (at Little Rock, Arkansas) https://www.instagram.com/p/B97zddvhXrR/?igshid=16m9feitnct1d
