kind of obsessed with this shot of odin and i haven't entirely figured out why yet
#space viking tag#like his face... as a still image it might read as disgust but he's actually. moving away.#he's sparing laufey's life when laufey almost seems to be challenging him not to#which makes it read more as regret#which is so so quintessentially odin. powerful bloodied indecisive and regretful.#another factor is that i KNOW i've seen both thor and loki make precisely this face at each other#AND take the same shellshocked step back#but. hmmm. i feel like. there are things to put together here which i haven't put together yet. we'll see#wait. these tags have been written non-chronologically but let's go back to laufey#and his pride in defeat as an implicit acceptance of death#loki in tdw... and odin refuses them both..... HMMM#also sorry if the colours are a little odd lol i cleaned it up for visibility but i know my computer messes with pinks#meta#s: t1#ch: odin#ch: laufey#r: laufey + odin

Seen in the wild:
(...) loki wasn't a good person prior to ragnarok. he reacts to learning that odin and frigga have lied to him his whole life by plotting the genocide of his actual people. he doesnt fight the dark elves with thor out of the goodness of his heart in tdw, he does it because he wants revenge and then he tricks thor into thinking that he died and takes control of asgard (and yes, I did say that he did good things while he was pretending to be odin but the way he got to that point was awful). his actions during the avengers may not have been of his own free will, but ultimately he did hurt people and he does need to atone for that even if all of the responsibility doesnt fall on his shoulders.
...
...
O.K. let's play :-)
1)
he reacts to learning that odin and frigga have lied to him his whole life by plotting the genocide of his actual people.
Hmmm … Odin kept the casket which according to MARVEL CANON leads to the slow but inevitable death of Jotunheim.
Probably because he is a dirty old man and likes to watch.
And Thor reacts to getting his coronation canceled with going to Jotunheim, ready and willing to kill every last Jotun, if necessary. And gleefully so. Simply because he enjoys killing them always wanted to and now has a good excuse to.
But both pale in comparison to Loki who … what did he again? … ah yes, to prove is loyalty to Asgard,
-> after being told that he has no leg to stand on, because what ever plan odin had for him, is history, meaning he is useless
and that he is one of the good ones and not like the "monsters parenst tell their children abaout"
he tried to finish ODINS slow genocide, in one afternoon.
bad boy!
2)
he doesnt fight the dark elves with thor out of the goodness of his heart in tdw, he does it because he wants revenge
And Thor fights out of the goodness of is heart?
Or because they killed his mom and are after Jane … and also they will drown the universe in darkness or something …
Btw. It was Loki who wanted to connect with Thor emotionally
Did she suffer?
and Thor who blocked him
I did not come here to share our grief.
It was Thor who offered revenge instead.
Instead I offer you the chance of a far richer sacrament.
It is Loki who signals he is open for communications despite the fact that Thor as blocked his offer for connection
Go on.
And Thor immediately makes it clear that he will us Loki as a tool, not work wit him as is brother. Once he as outlived is usefulness … if he outlives it, he goes back in the toolbox
I know you seek vengeance as much as I do. You help me escape Asgard and I will grant it to you, vengeance. And afterward, this cell.
And Loki doesn't jump at the chance but instead wants to again know what is relationship status wit Thor is
You must be truly desperate to come to me for help. What makes you think you can trust me?
and is AGAIN blocked
I don't.
3)
then he tricks Thor into thinking that he died
The scene was WRITTEN, SHOT AND ACTED to be Lokis death
Ergo, in universe Loki actually thought he was dying. The fact that he didn‘t doesn't make it trickery retroactively.
But while we are at it.
After Lokis death Thor thought he was stuck on Swartalfeim forever.
→ he had time
And yet he could not be bothered to give his brother a funeral pyre?
Conjure some lightning and burn him?
Drag his sorry as with them as they are looking for shelter?
Instead he just left his little brother to the elements …
Didn't even wrap him in his cape (he still has it wenn we see him and Jane in the cave)
What a good guy …
4)
and takes control of asgard
Correct he gets rid of Odin who was willing to kill Thor
Stop Thor, by any means necessary.
→ that includes killing him
And takes the throne after offering the Throne to Thor
What can Asgard offer its new King in return?
Wo refuses
I cannot be King of Asgard.
5)
his actions during the avengers may not have been of his own free will, but ultimately he did hurt people and he does need to atone for that even if all of the responsibility doesnt fall on his shoulders.
Soooo … That means Clint and Selvig also need to redeem themselves … right?
People like OP fascinate me, because I just know that in the cake AITA they would see the man as the asshole and his girlfriend as blameless because she meant well and he is just ungrateful XD
