I started these #broadbeans from #seeds sown in Oct 2020. They were planted out late Feb and have been doing really well. I haven't grown these before but in our house we love broadbean risotto with charred peppers and drizzle of soy sauce, so I thought I'd given them a go. Plus if I have a glut of them they freeze really well. . My mum told me that my Grandpop loved growing these and their flower's scent is stunning. Sunday session at The PATCH. The sun was shinning and it was a g tree at day to be at the allotment. . Cleared out raspberry canes from last season, removed cabbages that had gone to seed and covered the left hand side with cardboard to kill the weeds off. Also got the strimmer out to clear the pathways. . Im in awe of the amount of #rhubarb growing. First Post of the PATCH. 😊 . Pic 1: Before- rightside, After-left. The cabbage patch needed some attention, removed all mouldy leaves, stems left over from harvesting and gave some smaller ones some room to breathe and grow. . Pic 2: Before- rightside, After-left. Outside the shed was overgrown and there were two dead bushes that needed pulling up. The fencing was also falling over, thank god I bought my mallet. . Pic three shows the clean and tidied shed ready for spring and the first showings of the rhubarb. First year growing purple sprouting broccoli. These take some time to grow, need lots of space and have a small harvesting window but are an unusual veg to bring home. They need steaking to make sure the roots are undisturbed or weakened by wind. Great addition to the plot especially over the winter, as it gives the plot some splash of green. . Purple sprouting broccoli forest. 🥦 I am super pleased with my broccoli forrest grown from seed. This is the first time I have grown these. GARLIC WOHOOOO!!!!! After my sorry excuse for garlic this year, I am pleased to see my bulbs have germinated well in my trough. Last year I started them in pots and planted them out in spring but the soil was too heavy and I only got small but tasty bulbs. This year I am doing them direct into the ground, in loose soil with good drainage. The variety I have planted Caulk white hardneck. . Garlic is something I wanted to master as I eat it with everything and there are so many varieties to try and grow. Pesky pests or yummy food for insects?? . Sometimes it's hard not to get annoyed at your hard work. Being infested with critters but what I try to remember is that there is a natural state happening. These aphid lave are food for ladybugs and other insects. I do not remove or use chemicals but instead, I let nature do its thing. There is always next year 😊 . Throw back to when the plot was in full bloom. As the cold weather draws in, some of the crops are coming to an end. But this does not mean the growing season has ended.
