This is a pretty old song (2011) but I just remembered it exists. Look at the title, doesn't it sound familiar?

The first time I heard this I was immediately reminded of Saiyuki and can't help but think of a what if!AU based on this song.

The "He" on this song is Goku who loses his memory after the last battle on India (and somehow already got back to the east). He has some dreams and visions of people he's not sure he knows, and thinks that maybe it has something to do with his forgotten past. He feels that if he goes to the west he'll remember what happened, so he went alone. When he does arrive, he remembers that his dear three friends died because of the battle. Still, he chooses to move on.

"And the faces so familiar were no longer there. And yet in this moment inside of his heart he's finding the answer he needs." --> Goku remembering what happened

The phrase "weight of the words that keeps me alive" could be something that the ikkou said to him before they died and "sound of our step that keeps me alive" can be referring to the memory of them doing the journey together.

I'm sorry this sounds really sad but I just need people to hear this great song and maybe make saiyuki amv out of it and imagine this story with me and crying
