Books:
The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
This was a painful read, and I mean that as big compliment. I really don’t know much at all about Afghanistan’s history or culture and I think I learnt a lot from this, and am interested in learning more, which I really love when a book does that for me. The characters all feel very human, and complex. Amir is an interesting protagonist, he makes some really bad decisions that hurt people in a terrible way but I also feel the need to defend him, and I think his arc was very well done. This novel is imbued with a deep sense of grief. Grief of a childhood, of innocence, of loved ones, and of a homeland. It’s emotional whiplash tied up in beautiful writing and narrative structure. 5/5 Stars.
The Persistent Desire: A Femme-Butch Reader edited by Joan Nestle
I would love to get my hands on a physical copy of this. While I don’t agree with everything in here, it was all very interesting and I felt very seen by some of it. 4/5 Stars.
The Unloved by Deborah Levy
The synopsis makes it sound very interesting but I seriously don’t know what the fuck the point of this book is. Parts of it are interesting separately, especially the Algeria storyline, but all together it makes no sense and is hard to follow. Maybe I’m missing something because the prose was really nice and it was formatted in a really interesting way but just like what the fuck is it actually about? I have no real idea. 1.5/5 Stars

Fics:
Something rotten in Grimmauld Place by @plecotusauritus
(A WIP that was finished this month) This is a Hamlet AU and I have never read Hamlet, so I didn’t really know where this was going, and it went to some very interesting places. I love it, really.

One Shots:
and only felt good while moving by @steelycunt This was incredibly good, the writing is so atmospheric, I felt everything, I could see everything. It gets the hopeless summer love vibe just right.
the best he deserves by @plecotusauritus
This fic feels like being punched in the best way possible. It builds up so well, the subtle, calm manipulation, it hurts.
and rise and sink and rise and sink again by @divinerapturee
This played out like a movie in my head honestly, I think party scenes are very good for that imagery. And I am always here for lesbian wolfstar in every form.

Extremely excited for this one.
