Interesting facts about elephants
Elephants are the largest territorial mammal. They are also known as “proboscideans” or “trunked creatures”. They have an enlarged body with grey wrinkled skin, a pair of large incisors forming tusks, two large ears and four massive legs to carry their enlarged body.

The elephant has the longest gestation amongst the land animals which is about 22 months(640 to 660 days). Elephant’s baby is known as “calf”.
Elephants need a large amount of food because of their massive size. A full-grown elephant can eat up to 240kg of plants over 16 to 18 hours
Elephants can excrete continuously as they feed about 15 to 18-time per day. Their dungs can be almost 100kg in a day. They can digest up to 45 % of their feast. Their dung contains a lot of fibres and can be used to make paper sheets.
Elephants are the first animal to communicate infrasonically when they are separated by vegetation. They communicate through vibrations. They can hear sounds or vibrations through their feet. These calls cannot be perceived through the human ear as the frequency range is 14-24 Hertz.
Elephants are socially grouped animals that are led by a matriarch. “Matriarch” is known as the oldest female in the group. They make a large herd with females of varying ages and little immature males. The males isolate themselves and associate with the group for the mating purpose.

Elephants spread mud all over the skin to protect themselves from the ultraviolet rays coming from the sun. Mud act as a sunscreen for their skin.
The core body temperature of an elephant lies at 35.9⁰C(96.6⁰F). Elephant can alter their body temperature due to extreme environmental conditions.

They can store around 8 litres of water and can be used as a snorkel(a tube to breathe air when someone is swimming underwater) when they are swimming.
Elephants remember all the things as they have a larger region to store memory than any other mammal or human beings.
Elephants are afraid of bees as they can flap their ears and can sting in their sensitive parts of their body and it hurts.
