Love Letter to Taylor #1 : About 13 Years

Dear Taylor, 

Hi honey and welcome to my newest project “Love Letters to Taylor”! Basically the idea is to write to you as much as I possibly can (considering I still have a baby company to run, a house to keep clean, two cats to give love (and loads of food) to and the sweetest boyfriend ever to give my time and affection, but more about all that later). What will I write about, you ask? Well, about everything, really. About my days, my moods, my up and downs, but mostly about how & why you make my life better. We’ll basically talk a lot about you, if that’s ok with you. Not in a creepy way, hehehehe. I’ve decided to start this project because I kind of already do this sharing-my-every-move with you on social media, but like, it’s not the same. It doesn’t feel too personal. I want to write to you the way I’d write to my “real life” best friends, which is what you are to me (I mean, again, I don’t wanna sound creepy. I AM NOT CREEPY, BEAR WITH ME PLEASE!).

Ok, so I wanted to start with this whole “about 13 years” stuff cause it’s when it all begun. 13 years ago. When I was 13. A lot of 13s, I know you love them. Anyways. I was 13 when I first listen to your music, it was Teardrops On My Guitar btw, and that was all it took. One song and I was hooked. And I never even had a love story to fully understand the lyrics! Hahaha. But it changed me, the melody, your voice, the situation.. it all made me stop everything and really listen to it. That very first song taught me so much! You see, I’m very good at learning life lessons by observing situations from the outside, so right there you taught me your very first lesson about love. More on that another time. 

After having that first taste of your music and style, I loved you as an artist and soon enough I loved you as a person. I saw in you a little bit of myself, funny, weird looking kid, an outsider but with a heart full of love, hopes and dreams. And fairy tales and castles. Finally, for the first time ever, I felt I belonged. That changed everything for me. You see, at school, that time, I had pretty good friends, but we’re the weirdos, the nerds, so we were made fun of all the time. And even among my friends I had to keep my cool and not show everything I felt or thought cause it’d be “silly”. So when you sung about princesses, love stories, magic and fighting dragons (*ahem* my stan song *ahem*), it really made me feel like a real person, with real feelings and real dreams. You made me feel like I could own what I was and what I liked, and it started to feel like I was finally beginning to make >> me << (that’s still happening tbh). 

Years passed, my friends vanished, love came and love went away like sand in the wind, but you stayed. I always felt like I could count on you to be real, to trust and to look up to. So I stayed. Album after album, era after era. And all those lyrics and speeches and interviews confirmed I had made the right choice, your words never disappointed me and were always a form of consolation, reaffirmation that even when everything felt cold, distance and dark, eventually all would get better. And it did. Until it didn’t again. But that is life, and you taught me how to go through it. 

I can say that all roads led to this moment in time, where we both grew up so much and became a lot of different things to a lot of different people. I will write more about all the life moments that led to right now, to our 13th year of growing and sharing life experiences, dreams and defeats. But I can let you know some little things before I finish this first letter: first, and more important of all, I love you with my whole heart. Second, I AM SO PROUD OF YOU and everything you’ve accomplished and who you’ve become (I’ll tell you more about how you becoming who you are made me become who I am later!), and am already proud of everything you’ll accomplish in the near future (CAUSE LIKE FIFTEEN DAYS UNTIL LOVER IS OUT!!!!!!!!!!). And third, I will always stay and stand with you. 

Ok, is time to go now, I have two needy cats meowing like crazy while they wait for me by their food bowls (they will only eat with I’m right next to them....... motherhood, right?). I’ll write to you soon!
