Seemingly by Inosuke's guidance, her senses widened in scope. With each bit of information the elder relayed, the little demon's gaze followed along, as if she could see all the things he felt so clearly under cover of night. For a moment, she wondered when Inos—no, her little brother—no… Anyway, when did Takeo become so knowledgeable about wildlife? A warmth briefly settled in the center of her chest. Hearing how smart and curious about the world her siblings were always brought her joy. Those brief tender thoughts were interrupted by a tiny field mouse scampering before them, stopping just a few feet ahead to sniff the air. Glancing between Inosuke and the creature, Nezuko started laughing around her gag. It looked just like the boar boy, fur disheveled and bright eyes glistening as if ready for a meal or a fight. Tears streamed down her cheeks as she tried to point out the similarities. ❝ Hrf-pft! Hrm-mm! Hm! ❞ Could he see them? Would he get offended? Also, when did Takeo get so… filthy? Laughter sputtered into a choked scream. Pink claws found themselves embedded into the elder's bicep in fright. The mouse had apparently missed out on Inosuke's warning, as the massive owl mentioned before had swooped down and caught its delicate midnight snack. ❝ H-h-h— ❞ Realizing her mistake, Nezuko scooted away. Stuttering apologies poured over the tiny pinprick in the other's skin. How could she have been so careless? And beyond careless, how could she be so frightened by such a silly thing? Though an accident, guilt had caused her to flush and fumble and shake. Gently as she could, she tried to wipe the injuries with the sleeve of her kimono. As usual when any of her siblings came to her with scrapes and bruises, she did her best to clean the wounds and swear the children to secrecy so their mother wouldn't worry more than she had to. Promises of sweets from the village worked, or being able to slack off on their chores for a tiny bit. ❝ Mm-mmm! Hm-mph? H-hrm… ❞

There came a muffled scream of surprise as Nezuko was hoisted up off the ground. Frantically her feet kicked through the air, scrambling for purchase on something, anything. Aside from not wanting to fall, she desperately thought of how to somehow get Inosuke to cease his strange training regime. All attempts at tightening her hold on him failed, but if she could just… swing her body a little, she could— AHA! ❝ Hm-hmph! ❞ As the small demon’s legs clung around the elder’s waist, her expression shifted to one of delightful triumph. It was over for Inosuke! Hurriedly she clambered further up the beast boy’s back, and once situated, her arms shot up and—SMACK! Down her tiny hands came, smashing atop the foul mask’s bulbous eyes in an attempt to blind and stun. Poor Inosuke.

like a child loves the rain : you need to be loved in happiness and foolishness. a puppy love, a love so purely good, so full of happiness it makes your stomach ache. you need to be loved in a way that reminds you of the childhood you didn’t get to have. you need to be loved as if you’re feeling the rain fall upon your cheeks for the first time. refreshing, and clean.

After the fog lifted and those who fought were on the mend, Nezuko had made it a habit to consistently visit the love hashira. Though unable to truly remember the bond they shared before, stories and memories were often told, and the former demon knew she wanted nothing more than to reignite their sisterly flame. ❝ Maybe… Maybe we can all go to city soon, ❞ she hummed, content and relaxed as the older’s fingers carded through her hair, braiding and twisting to match her own. ❝ I-I mean… Aoi-chan, Kanao-chan, and all the other girls. We could try that thing you like! What was it? Pancakes? Shinobu-san likes them too— ❞

Already the little demon had managed to perfectly fold two uniforms, careful to avoid wrinkles. As she glanced upward, Haru’s visage immediately dissolved into one of Takeo, still hazy around the edges. With a tiny noise of confirmation, Nezuko nodded. What a silly question for her brother to ask. Of course she was trying to help. That’s what older sisters were for, weren’t they? Before turning back to their shared chore, she paused, a thought forming: when had Takeo grown so tall? Where had the time gone? Gently, Nezuko reached up to affectionately flatten Haru’s head covering as if it were tufts of dark hair, plucking stray lint off afterward. Poor thing needed a wash too, but despite making a mental note to do so for him, it would soon disappear. ❝ Mm! Hrm! ❞ With a tiny huff, she lifted up another uniform, beginning to fold again. If she could speak, no doubt her grunts and hums would have translated to ❛ It’s quicker with the two of us, Takeo-chan. You looked like you needed the help. ❜

It was lonely, being the sole person awake in the middle of the night. On rare occasion, someone awoke to fetch water, use the restroom, or simply flip their pillow, but those tiny moments weren’t enough to satiate Nezuko’s appetite for socialization and affection. Yet somehow tonight was different. From her spot beside Tanjiro, hiding beneath the covers, she’d heard someone rise, only to head outside and seemingly never return. Curiosity took hold of the little demon. As she curiously peered from the blanket and out the open shoji, the boar head hazily merged into an image of her long-lost brother, Takeo. ❝ Mm! ❞ she muffled through her bamboo gag, her insides now fluttering with excitement. Eagerly she crawled from their shared sleeping space and padded to the kitchen, bristling with glee at the thought of surprising her ❛ dear brother ❜ with snacks. A shame there wasn’t anyone around to cook so late! If it were up to her, she’d supply him with what he deserved: a proper feast; mountains of tempura shrimp and vegetables, thick noodles in rich broth. Yet all she could procure was fresh produce, which should suffice. The most delectable persimmon and bunches of grapes were bundled in her kimono before she bounded outside. ❝ Hrmph, mph! ❞ She’d announced her arrival, her gift. Like a proud sister, she clasped her clawed hands together to watch the elder eat, eyes amorous. Maybe next time they were both awake together, she could provide more, and maybe Tanjiro would be awake too, and perhaps Zen—Zen...? No, Rokuta, her other brother! Now filled with glee, Nezuko settled down beside the boar child, ignoring any mess that he possibly made and swinging her short legs over the side of the wooden walkway. With a gentle sigh, she leaned against her perceived brother. When was the last time they were able to just spend time like this? Yet the thought was interrupted by all the sounds of the night. ❝ Mrm! ❞ Unable to calm herself, she looked every which way, trying to pinpoint various chitters and hoots. ❝ Hrf-pft! ❞
