The kerfuffle of Charley Hull of the United Kingdom smoking cigarettes at the 2024 U.S. Open in women's golf on May 30-June 2 in Lancaster, Pa. LPGA administrators not happy. But she's a smoker!
PRO GOLFERS WHO SMOKE CIGARETTES ORDINARILY DON'T DO SO ON THE COURSE!
And Charley Hull, of the LPGA Tour, is not an ordinary professional golfer. She's Charley, quirks and all. She is ranked in the Top 20 worldwide. She was under the gun during a practice round at the Open and needed a cigarette, so she lit-up. In public view and the Greater Pro Golfing World Community scene went wild! This is a lit Newport 100s cigarette she's dangling!
Dual-Media Single-Post 21-Pack Megapost!
LPGA administrators must have been besides themselves with this much publicity ⏤ which it craves in a crowded, utlra-competitive world of high-levels sports entertainment, each battling for their shares of the market ⏤ earlier this month with so many eyes affixed to their brand of sport. But it was far from pure positive energy and focus. Everyone recognizes that cigarettes are legal products for purchase, and smoking them is unhealthy yet not unlawful and not the image those affiliated with sports would want to project with their athletes. But there we were! Her attitude about all of the attention is a combination of laissez-faire and matter-of-fact (yawn!). She smokes cigarettes, not heavily, has been for years' also vapes, knows the image of each habit and is aware of public perception. She's not apologetic; nor is she militant about it. "I hate smoking," was a quote from one the articles published in the media during the maelstrom, this from a golf publication. The news-feature story also addressed her admitting to vaping, increasing each habit when under stress, and she acknowledged recent, rather-intense, not-brief-in-duration bouts with mental/emotional/psychological/mood difficulties. Frequency in smoking/vaping had been temporarily increased in those periods of struggle, she said. Her state of mind has gotten better, she was quoted as saying. Charley says she comes from a family of smokers. Kind of pre-ordained that she would slip into the habit at some point. And that has happened. Charley reported that once the smoking media got out there during the Open, a fan slipped her a note asking her out for dinner. She laughed it off. Perhaps the outreach was spurred on by seeing her with cigarettes. Maybe one of us, afflicted with SF! . . . Some pro athletes smoke cigarettes but not many. Kind of interferes with stamina. On staff within our network is a former professional sports reporter who covered a PGA event in the Northeast U.S.A. for several years. Notes his surprise at seeing how many PGA Tour pros smoked. Not one-fourth, or anything of that magnitude, but more than a handful. Always has been the case. Saw an NHL player smoking in the dressing room before a game as well, he reported. It is what it is. And what it is is that Charley Hull is a cigarette smoker ⏤ good or bad or indifferent! She will quit smoking one day. When that is is entirely up to her! Multiple photos in this post from Instagram@joeynassau on June 7, 2024! Hope you enjoy learning about the news here!

Disclaimer: “Smoking is injurious to health. We do not promote smoking as a habit for those who are non-smokers. Some women smoke cigarettes and know how appealing they look while doing so. We wish all women who smoke cigarettes would quit the habit one day.” ⏤ King of SF Aficionados web-master/web producer

Trans golfer Hailey Davidson will undergo testosterone testing after death threats
Following backlash to her win earlier this month at the NXXT Women’s Classic in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida, trans golfer Hailey Davidson will undergo testosterone testing to ensure compliance with the NXXT Women’s Pro Tour’s gender policies. Davidson told Golfweek that she received five to 10 death threats on social media in the days after taking the top prize at the January 17 event, before deleting her X (formerly Twitter) account. Related: Hailey Davidson may be the first out trans woman to join the LPGA tour She says if she succeeds, her critics will say it’s because she’s transgender rather than because of her lifelong work at improving her game. On Monday, NXXT Golf CEO Stuart McKinnon released a statement addressing the controversy. “The recent discussions surrounding Hailey Davidson’s participation and success on our tour have highlighted a range of viewpoints,” McKinnon wrote, noting that the NXXT Women’s Pro Tour’s policies and decisions are guided by the frameworks set by the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) and United States Golf Association (USGA). Never Miss a Beat Subscribe to our daily newsletter to stay ahead of the latest LGBTQ+ political news and insights. “Recognizing the spectrum of views on this issue, we wish to highlight that our decisions are guided by what is best for our players, setting aside personal beliefs,” McKinnon continued. “Part of our commitment is ensuring an environment that is inclusive and safe for all members.” McKinnon said that NXXT Golf has begun polling players on its tour to gauge their opinions on its gender policy. “We believe it is vital to consider the perspectives of those directly affected by these policies,” he wrote. “Furthermore, in maintaining the integrity of our standards, we have requested Hailey Davidson to undergo additional testosterone testing to ensure compliance with the appropriate guidelines.” Davidson told Golfweek that she has no problem with the poll. “At this point, we’re trying anything to see if we can cool the fire down a little,” she said, noting that anti-trans backlash generally comes from “people who aren’t playing.” “It comes with the territory, I suppose,” she said of threats on social media. “Someone who is at home really frustrated with themselves trying to take it out on me. If I don’t laugh, I’m going to be miserable.” Davidson, who began hormone therapy in September 2015 and underwent gender-affirming surgery in January 2021—a requirement under the LPGA’s gender policy—said she has already taken an additional testosterone test and is not worried about meeting NXXT’s guidelines, as she already qualifies under the LPGA and USGA’s gender policies, as McKinnon noted in his statement. In an interview with Sky News, Davidson indicated that she accepts that policies dictating trans athletes’ participation in sports are necessary. “Trans athletes shouldn’t be banned, but at the same time, there needs to be regulations in place because it shouldn’t just be a free-for-all,” she said. “I think with so many topics, we as a society just need to sit down and listen to each other rather than scream at each other and put hatred on it. I think we forget that people are actually humans at the same time.” She also described the controversy around her NXXT win as “selective hatred.” “No one really cares when I’m not playing well, but as soon as you play well, the whole world ends and it’s ‘I’m destroying women’s golf now,’” she said. She echoed that sentiment in a recent Instagram post, in which she also vowed to continue working toward her goal of qualifying for the LPGA Tour. http://dlvr.it/T1q64m

Audubon International Announces Black Desert Resort Partnership
Tumblr media
Audubon International – the environmentally focused non-profit organization offering members numerous certifications and conservation initiatives to protect the areas where we all live, work and play – welcomes Black Desert Resort, a sustainability-driven golf, lodging, recreation and residential community near St. George, Utah, as a registered member of its Audubon International Signature Sanctuary Program. Over the coming months, Black Desert will work closely with Audubon International’s team of environmental specialists to formulate a plan to earn property-wide designation as a Platinum Certified Signature Sanctuary, starting with its 19-hole championship golf course. The late Tom Weiskopf’s final design, which winds through a tableau of red rocks and black lava fields, opened to rave reviews in May 2023. The course will host an annual PGA Tour event starting in September 2024 and an LPGA event starting in 2025. Reef Capital Partners, the investment firm behind Black Desert, put environmental sustainability at the center of its development plan from day one, with an eye toward eventually achieving Signature Sanctuary Platinum Certification for the entire property. “We are thrilled to welcome Black Desert as the first Signature Sanctuary Platinum enrollee in the state of Utah, and one of the first in America,” said Christine Kane, Audubon International’s CEO. “As the development takes shape on some of the West’s most ecologically diverse and visually stunning landscapes, we will partner with them to create a lasting and groundbreaking model of environmental stewardship on all fronts — golf course, resort, retail and residential.” Troon Golf, led by Superintendent Ken Yates, manages the course, overseeing its maintenance and maturation and crucial protocols like water use, turf selection, and coverage. Black Desert’s 150-room eco-hotel is set to open in fall 2024, with Golf Village, Family Village and Boardwalk complexes to follow. The long-term plan envisions the potential for up to 1,000 homes. “We’re doing hotel, the golf course and the other home development sites, all at the same time,” said Yates. All irrigation comes from gray water sources to save water on Black Desert’s 75 acres of turf. Fairways will use bentgrass, which eliminates the need to overseed or apply too many chemical fertilizers. “It’s more of a permanent turf solution,” said Yates. “Now we have grasses that can handle our hot summers and cold winters.” This light-on-the-land ethic will continue throughout the entire project, including the hotel and other structural elements, starting with a low-voltage Power Over Ethernet system and an advanced regenerative media filter system for water savings. “From the golf course standpoint, we look to be as sustainable as we can be. And Audubon International has shown a track record of assisting with that. That’s really what our partnership is about,” said Ross Laubscher, executive director of construction and Agronomy for Reef Capital. “We’re looking for them to help us develop a product that all can be proud of, that shows we’re environmentally conscious and that the product is sustainable years from now.” Reef Capital has also enlisted Dr. Joseph Platt as director of environmental affairs to look after the vast natural areas of the 600-acre property. With Audubon International’s direction, he will work with staff and faculty from nearby Utah Tech University to initiate research and monitoring programs. “Projects such as Black Desert can be created in an environmentally sensitive or in a heavy-handed way,” said Dr. Platt. “The difference is time, money and vision. Black Desert has chosen to invest resources in preserving hundreds of acres of natural areas, reducing water and power requirements, and developing ways to educate the public about our environmental resolve. By partnering with Audubon International, we will ensure our commitment to the environment grows and matures with Black Desert.” For more information about Black Desert Resort, visit blackdesertresort.com.   Read the full article

Lydia Ko Net Worth, Biography, Career, Income, Home & Age
Tumblr media
What Is Lydia Ko's Net Worth? Lydia Ko is a pro golfer from New Zealand, and she is worth $25 million. Lydia Ko has been the best woman professional golfer in the world at different times in her career. She first held this title in February 2015, when she was only 17 years old. Lydia was the 2014 LPGA Rookie of the Year and the 2015 and 2022 LPGA Player of the Year. She has also been a player director on the LPGA Board. Ko won a silver medal at the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 and a bronze medal in Tokyo in 2020. She was named one of the 100 most influential people by "Time" magazine in 2014. In 2014 and 2015, she was also on the EspnW Impact25 list. In the 2019 New Year Honours, she was named a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit. Early Life Bo-Gyung Ko was born in Seoul, South Korea, on April 24, 1997. Lydia was 4 years old when her family moved to New Zealand, and she became a citizen of the country when she was 12. Ko started playing golf when she was 5 years old. Her mother took her to a pro shop at the Pupuke Golf Club that was owned by professional golfer Guy Wilson. Wilson ended up coaching Lydia until the end of 2013. At the age of 7, Ko began to get attention from the media when he competed in New Zealand's national amateur championships. Lydia went to Mairangi Bay Primary School and Pinehurst School. When she was on professional golf tours, she took courses from Pinehurst by mail. She studied psychology outside of school with Korea University, Seoul, beginning in 2015. Career In January 2012, Ko, who was only 14 years old, won the Bing Lee/Samsung Women's NSW Open on the ALPG Tour. This made her the youngest player to ever win an event on a professional golf tour. In the fall of that year, Canadian golfer Brooke Henderson broke the record. Lydia won the CN Canadian Women's Open in 2012, 2013, and 2015. In November 2013, she played in the CME Group Titleholders, which was her first professional tournament. The LPGA usually requires its members to be at least 18 years old, but they made an exception for Ko. Tour commissioner Mike Whan said, "It's not often that the LPGA welcomes a rookie who has already won back-to-back LPGA Tour titles." Before she turned pro, Lydia had been the best female amateur golfer in the world for 130 weeks. In 2014, Ko won the Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic, the Marathon Classic, and the CME Group Tour Championship. In 2015, she won the ISPS Handa Women's Australian Open, the Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic, the Canadian Pacific Women's Open, The Evian Championship, and the Fubon LPGA Taiwan Championship. Ko got sponsored by Parson's Xtreme Golf in 2016 and won the Kia Classic, the ANA Inspiration, the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship, and the Marathon Classic. She competed in the 2016 Summer Olympics and won a silver medal. She was the youngest player to win an Olympic medal in women's golf in Rio de Janeiro. She was also New Zealand's youngest individual female Olympic medalist. Lydia won the LPGA Mediheal Championship in 2018 and the Lotte Championship in 2021. She also got a bronze medal at the rescheduled 2020 Summer Olympics. In 2022, Ko won the CME Group Tour Championship, the Gainbridge LPGA at Boca Rio, and the BMW Ladies Championship. Lydia was the best woman golfer in the world in 2015, 2016, and 2022. Career Earnings As of this writing, Lydia Ko has earned a little under $17 million from tournament winnings. She has earned tens of millions more from endorsements. (Photo by Mike Ehrmann/Getty Images) Personal Life Lydia and Chung Jun got engaged in August 2022. Chung Jun is the son of Chung Tae-young, who is the CEO and vice chairman of both Hyundai Card and Hyundai Commercial. Ko said about her boyfriend, "I was so young when I joined the tour, and all I knew was golf. If I had a bad day on the golf course, I thought I was a bad person, and if I had a good day, I thought I was a better person. But now I don't think that affects me as much, because I have my family and the people I love, and this one special new person has come into my life, and I think through him I've just been able to enjoy life, enjoy the process." Lydia added, "He has helped me love the game again. It's not just work anymore. I think it will take a very special person to show me that." Records, Achievements, and Awards Ko is the youngest golfer to win a professional golf tour event (2012), an LPGA Tour event (2012), a Ladies European Tour event (2013), two LPGA Tour events (2013), five events on a major tour (2014), the ISPS Handa Women's Australian Open (2015), and 10 events on a major tour (2015). The list of previous Thurman Munson Award recipients reads like a “Who’s Who” of sports stars for the ages including: Muhammad Ali, Arthur Ashe, Yogi Berra, Mariano Rivera, Jorge Posada, Joe Torre, Bernie Williams, Tom Seaver, Mike Piazza, Gary Carter, David Wright, Willis Reed, Patrick Ewing, Julius Erving, Jim Brown, Harry Carson, Aly Raisman, Nancy Lieberman, Theresa Weatherspoon, and Mark Messier, just to name a few.
Kyle Higashioka was a seventh-round selection by the Yankees in the 2008 MLB Draft. After battling a series of injuries early in his minor league career, Kyle made his major league debut for the Yankees in 2018 when Gary Sánchez was sidelined. After starting his major league career 0-for-22, the longest hitless streak to start a Yankee career of any position player ever, he had his first major league hit, a home run, on July 1 against the Boston Red Sox. His next two hits, on July 3 and July 4 against the Atlanta Braves, were also circuit blasts, making him the ninth MLB player since 1920 to have three home runs as his first three hits. On September 16, 2020, Higashioka hit three home runs in a game against the Toronto Blue Jays to became the 24th Yankee to hit three HR in a game. On May 19, 2021, Higashioka caught Corey Kluber's no-hitter against the Texas Rangers, the first Yankees to catch a no-hitter since Joe Girardi caught David Cone's perfect game in 1999.
Higashioka was the Yankees 2021 nominee for the Roberto Clemente Award which embodies representing the game of baseball through extraordinary character and community involvement, both on and off the field. In 2006, MLB opened its first Urban Youth Academy in Compton, CA. Among the athletes who attended the inaugural camp was Higashioka. He grew up roughly 25 miles away in Huntington Beach, looking for any and every opportunity to achieve his goal of playing professional baseball. He never forgot the impact the MLB Youth Academy had on him and the trajectory of his career. He spent numerous offseasons volunteering his time to support the social reach of the program. The academy focuses on Inner City youth, and assists after-school programs, preparing kids for any type of life, whether it's professional baseball or getting in the workforce. Kyle has embraced the causes of the Special Operations Warrior Foundation, which ensures complete post-secondary educational support and additional educational opportunities for eligible surviving children of fallen Special Operations Personnel and children of all Medal of Honor Recipients; and provides immediate financial assistance to severely wounded, ill, and injured Special Operations Personnel.
Four-time Manager of the Year Buck Showalter, in his first season at the helm of the Mets last season, led the team to a 101-win campaign en route to the best skipper trophy. During a 30-year managerial career, Showalter has amassed 1,652 victories managing the Yankees, Diamondbacks, Rangers, Orioles, and Mets. Like Thurman, Showalter was drafted by the Bronx Bombers, and is a member of the Cape Cod Baseball League Hall of Fame. (Thurman led the Chatham A's to their first league title with a .420 batting average, while Showalter, playing for the Hyannis Mets, won the league batting title with a .434 average). Showalter was an All-American and set the Mississippi State record for batting average in a season by hitting .459 during the 1977 season.
Showalter participated in the Amazin’ Mets Foundation’s second annual Homeruns & Highballs fundraiser last July, the team’s largest fundraising event of the season. AMF is committed to providing needed services and opportunities to children, families and underserved groups in neighborhoods and communities to inspire change and make a lasting impact on and off the field. On the 21st anniversary of 9/11, Showalter and the team paid tribute to the first responders during the game against the Marlins. While managing Baltimore, Buck supported the LUNGevity Foundation, a charity inspired by the Orioles late public relations director Monica Pence Barlow.
The homegrown smiling, starting centerfielder Brandon Nimmo was a first round pick by New York in the 2011 MLB draft, and made his big league debut for the Mets in 2016. The seven-year veteran enjoyed his finest season last year, recording 159 hits, 30 doubles, and 64 RBI with 580 at bats in 151 games, all career highs. His 16 home runs fell one short of equaling his lifetime best of 17 circuit blasts. During the off season, the Cheyanne, Wyoming native signed a nine-year contract with the Mets. Nimmo played for Team Italy in the World Baseball Classic in 2017.
During the off season, Nimmo dressed as an elf at the Mets annual holiday party. Last season, Nimmo held a special sandlot baseball game for local Little Leaguers at Flushing’s Hinton Park on July 8 with two dozen Little Leaguers taking part. Following a pre-game pep talk, Nimmo spent much of the game pitching to the kids, playing the outfield, and giving players fist bumps when they made a good play. Nimmo has also taken part in the fundraiser Call of Duty: Warzone Charity Royale to support veterans with teammate Pete Alonso. Nimmo was named the Mets recipient of the 2022 Heart and Hustle Award, awarded to players who demonstrate a passion for the game of baseball and best embodies the values, spirit and traditions of the game, by the MLB Players Alumni Association.
Annika Sörenstam is the most celebrated and winningest female professional golfer in history as a three-time Women’s U.S. Open champion, three-time PGA champion and member of the World Golf Hall of Fame. In 2003, she achieved a career Grand Slam, winning at least once in her career each of the four tournaments recognized as major championships. She tops the LPGA’s all-time money list with earnings in excess of $22 million. In all, the native of Sweden has captured 72 official LPGA tournaments and has been named Player of the Year a record eight times.
Annika created the ANNIKA Foundation (www.annikafoundation.org) to provide opportunities in women’s golf at the junior, collegiate and professional levels while teaching young people the importance of living a healthy, active lifestyle through fitness and nutrition. It annually conducts six major golf events for aspiring junior girls throughout the world. And with the support of the Haskins Commission, the Foundation created the ANNIKA Award presented by Stifel, which is given annually to the best collegiate female golfer. Since 2014, the Foundation has also annually hosted the ANNIKA Intercollegiate presented by 3M, a college tournament featuring 12 top Division I schools. Each year, the Foundation also conducts several “Share My Passion” grass roots clinics designed to introduce kids to the game.

One of the big talking points in golf today concerns attracting more women to take up the game of golf. This is particularly of great importance as Asia is a major marketplace for the growth of the women’s game given the dominance of Asian women on the LPGA Tour.
The 2022 Asia Pacific Golf Summit (APGS 2022) is proud to announce that it has secured the participation of Dr. Deborah M. Gray, a top Professor of Marketing at Central Michigan University where she teaches marketing strategy in the MBA programme.
“As an avid golfer, her research focuses on women’s use of golf for building their networks and enhancing their careers. Her research findings suggest that golf should be adopted as a formal part of diversity equity and inclusion training in organizations where golf is played for business,” explained Mike Sebastian, the producer and owner of APGS 2022.
Professor Gray’s consulting activities include teaching sales managers how to integrate golf into their professional development programmes and she has done consulting for companies like Bosch, USA where she worked with the Woman@Bosch Business Resource Group.
She is a featured author in the booked titled “Selling on the Green: The Art of Building Trusted Relationships and Growing your Business on the Golf Course.”
Dr. Gray also teaches an undergraduate study abroad class every year in Scotland, United Kingdom called “Selling on the Green: Intercultural Business Communication in Golf.” Students learn about the historic and cultural ties of golf to Scotland and they practice international golf networking skills while golfing on some of the most culturally significant and historic golf courses in the world.
APGS 2022 will be staged at the multi-billion-dollar Hoiana Resort & Golf in the UN Heritage city of Hoi An, Vietnam from November 1 – 3.
