The last ride we made to Zanskar with our guests through mighty Shinku la was in December 2022. A short 3 day excursion we made in the Lungnak valley with a crispy short hike to Phuktar monastery, the ancient marvel of Zanskar. All the wide sky was there to tempt him as he steered toward the heaven, sculpted by the sculptor in the cliffside like a honeycomb. A cave monastery (also known as phugtal monastery)that can still be only reached by foot. Amidst all the process of accumulating changes phugtal still stands high, intact, unharmed, and protected with its rich history and traditon in the remotest area of lungnak valley in Zanskar region. Residence for about 70 monks, and a temple for worship, teachings, prayers and some most celebrated Tibetan sacred festivals, phugtal monastery illuminates it all. During night, when this isolated cave is showered by the moonlight it transforms into this seamless monumental sculpturesque against the brooding nocturnal landscape, leaving you nothing but flabbergasted.
