Biggest mistake I made was going back to resin.  I used to love resin dolls so much but he is heavier than my girls who are bigger than him.  Granted it’s the vinyl versus resin issue, but I’m putting him up for adoption.

Happy 10th Bday to my Doll Takizawa!

10 years ago I picked him up from the customs, he was a different character before I turned him into Takizawa in 2015.. that’s quite a while now too.

Back in the day he was very improvised and is still partly but it somehow fits him I like him like this. I know he maybe could use some upgrades, fast as i have come with my skills, but he’s somehow part of what I was able to make in my earlier years and it’s fun to compare.

There is a second doll of my crew turning 10 this year, this will be Nathan in August. Time flies.

Jasper and the Wandering Eyes

Well, the Volks SDC Arashi on the MSD boy body was delivered the day after Xmas. He was in better shape than I thought, although he definitely needs some TLC. I'll take him apart, take out the glue sueding (hate that, drives me crazy), sand the seams, and restring him. He needs some cleaning up. There's a few marks on the face-up, but if I'm careful, I think I can preserve it? We'll see how it goes.

I was going to name him Rory, but he's definitely not a Rory. I named him Jasper instead, after my 2nd favorite character from Twilight. (Bella's dad Charlie is my hands-down favorite, but I don't like the name Charles.)

Jasper came without eyes, but I have two sets that might do for him. A Luts blue glass 16mm and an Enchanted Eyes urethane (Milky #6) 16mm. I got the brown eyes for another doll (Kaj, my Luts Kid Delf Almond) and I need to pull him out and check to see if I changed the eyes out already.

The story with Kaj was one of those learning experiences. Several years ago, when Luts introduced their Yuz Kid Delf sculpt, I wanted to get a pair of Kid Delfs to be brothers. At the time, they were offering cat ears/tails, so these two were going to be the Malachy brothers, a pair of mischievous cat boys. However, when they came in, it didn't work at all. Kieran (Yuz KDF) had a much smaller head that Kaj (Almond KDF). So Kieran kept the Malachy surname and I gave Kaj a Swedish surname, Utne. No particular reason, I just thought Kaj Utne sounded cool.

Kaj and Kieran. The vampirish red eyes are Enchanted Doll urethane Milky #19). As you can see, the Almond sculpt (Kaj) has a much larger head than the Yuz sculpt (Kieran). So much for my cat brothers plan!

Kieran did still do the Cat Boy thing, though.

Kaj had brown eyes for awhile, but they ended up going to Bryony (Bluefairy Kate) because I wanted a brown-eyed blonde girl. These are Enchanted Doll Milky #31 and Milky #4 (half-graduation) with Milky #6 rim (variations of brown) urethane, 16mm, low dome.

So Kaj got Blue eyes (these are Droprop Cobalt Blue urethane). But I think I switched him back to his original Enchanted Eyes Milky #19 (red) and gave the blue to Jillian (Dream of Doll DOC Tender Too girl). But she may have to give them back.

So this eye thing can get complicated, but this kind of customization is what makes BJDs so fun.

But back to Jasper. His eye choice will really depend on what wig I chose for him and his style of dress, which I won't know until after I clean him up a bit and try things out.

Sorry if this is annoying and sorry for asking on anon but I'm too shy and I kinda need help. I was wondering if maybe you could give me some cheap legit alternatives for dolls that fit the Crobi / Volks aesthetic. I'm looking for kid/teenage looking boy dolls that are cheap (under 350 USD), especially 1/4 dolls but I could also buy 1/3 if they don't seem too manly or muscular. Sorry to bother you, but I decided to go pro-artist and legit so I'm trying to get legits that fit my aesthetic.

I compiled a list of ¼ dolls for you (since ¼ is the size I collect, myself—I’m not very knowledgeable of 1/3). I tried to find sculpts that gave me overall Volks/Crobi vibes, not necessarily just Volks MSD or Crobi C-Line (their 1/4s).

If you want me to suggest more child-like minis, please send me another message on Anon!

Anyway:

5StarDoll Henry ($195) makes me think of some older Volks sculpts.

Xagadoll May ($235) does as well, given his eye-shape.

Some of the Little Harmony dolls by Little Monica ($270) make me think of some of the larger Crobi boys, especially Bear and Little Kliff.

If you like sweeter Volks faces, Angell-Studio Den ($340) is close to your price cut-off. Order through Clover-Singing (aka: Jeeryama, a reputable dealer) for free shipping.

Charm Doll ($217) is a relatively new studio. Their Remy makes me think of some of the more mature Crobi boys.

MYOU ($230; $192 during events), another newer maker, has Arthur… his eye-shape makes me think of Volks.

Dikadoll’s Guang Nian ($260) reminds me of some of the old Volks minis with elf ears.

Doll Family H ($220) has a few ¼ boys that remind me of larger Crobi dolls, such as Nan Xing. If the body pictured there is too muscular for you, they also offer Body V.1 and Body V.2.

Doll Love’s Xing Ye ($195) gives me Volks vibes.

There’s Angel Fantasy Rand ($195).

Aimeri’s Prince Igna ($295)… which has a mature face similar to what you’d find in a 1/3 boy.

Loongsoul has Arthur ($230) has a sweeter face and their new boy body isn’t muscular at all.

Withdoll ($320) has a few boys that remind me of the 1/3 Crobis, like Egon and Ash.

LUTS ($232) has a Kid Delf named Yuz that also reminds me of 1/3 Crobis.

If you’re looking for a taller ¼ boy, there’s SpiritDoll ($260) Pyrus.

There’s also Asleep Eidolon’s Ningmeng ($216).

First cabinet is finished, each cabinet contains two mini-diorama. This is the first of them I have finished. I have choosen Kaneki’s black reaper cloth for him to be on display since it fits the color theme the best. He will have a coat (finally) but since I’m pretty much out of energy I will only modify a bought one (which need to arrive first).

ADAW 28/52 - DANKE

Thank you Ishida Sui for creating Tokyo Ghoul. This series became a huge part of my life and helped me through a lot of things. I loved to read it, I loved to style my dolls as the characters and handcraft stuff for them. I can’t describe the fun I had recreating scenes from the Manga with them.

Finished and revised dolls of October/November/December 2017 aka Part 4 for 2017.

Not as many as the last months but those last three months were pretty hard and stressful. I’m glad I was able to work on the dolls and hope to have a lot of my WiPs finished next year ♥
