How to Apply for a Luxembourg Visa from India: A Step-by-Step Guide
If you're an Indian citizen planning to visit Luxembourg, you'll need to apply for a Luxembourg visa from India. This guide will walk you through the process step-by-step, ensuring you have all the necessary information to make your application successful. With a keyword density of 2%, we'll cover every aspect of obtaining a Luxembourg visa from India.
Understanding the Luxembourg Visa
Luxembourg is a member of the Schengen Area, meaning you need a Schengen visa to visit the country. This visa allows you to travel to all Schengen countries, including Luxembourg, for up to 90 days within a 180-day period. The Schengen visa is suitable for tourism, business, family visits, and other short-term purposes.
Step 1: Determine the Type of Visa You Need
Before applying, determine the type of Schengen visa you need. Common types include:
Tourist Visa: For sightseeing and leisure.
Business Visa: For attending business meetings, conferences, or other work-related activities.
Family Visit Visa: For visiting family or friends residing in Luxembourg.
Transit Visa: For travelers passing through Luxembourg en route to another destination.
Ensure you apply for the correct visa type to avoid complications later.
Step 2: Gather Required Documents
To apply for a Luxembourg visa from India, you'll need to gather several documents. These include:
Visa Application Form: Complete the Schengen visa application form, available on the official website of the Luxembourg embassy or consulate.
Passport: A valid passport with at least two blank pages and a validity of at least three months beyond your planned stay in Luxembourg.
Photographs: Two recent passport-sized photographs that meet Schengen visa photo requirements.
Cover Letter: A cover letter explaining the purpose of your visit, your itinerary, and any other relevant details.
Travel Itinerary: Proof of your travel plans, including flight bookings and accommodation reservations.
Travel Insurance: A travel insurance policy covering medical expenses and emergencies, with a minimum coverage of €30,000.
Proof of Financial Means: Bank statements, salary slips, or other documents demonstrating your ability to finance your trip.
Proof of Accommodation: Hotel reservations, an invitation letter from a host, or any other document proving where you will stay.
Employment Documents: A letter from your employer, pay slips, or business registration documents if you're self-employed.
Visa Fee: The visa application fee, which must be paid as per the embassy's guidelines.
Step 3: Schedule an Appointment
Once you have all your documents ready, schedule an appointment at the nearest Luxembourg embassy or consulate in India. The embassy typically requires applicants to appear in person to submit their documents and biometric data (fingerprints and photograph). Ensure you book your appointment well in advance, as slots can fill up quickly, especially during peak travel seasons.
Step 4: Attend the Visa Interview
On the day of your appointment, arrive at the embassy or consulate on time. Bring all your documents and be prepared to answer questions about your trip. The visa officer may ask about your travel plans, financial situation, and reasons for visiting Luxembourg. Answer honestly and provide any additional documents if requested.
Step 5: Pay the Visa Fee
During your appointment, you'll need to pay the non-refundable visa application fee. The fee varies depending on the type of visa you're applying for and your age. Ensure you have the exact amount in the specified currency, as the embassy may not accept other forms of payment.
Step 6: Wait for Processing
After submitting your application and attending the interview, all you can do is wait. The processing time for a Luxembourg visa from India typically ranges from 15 to 30 days. However, it can take longer during busy periods or if additional documentation is required.
Step 7: Collect Your Visa
Once your visa is processed, you'll be notified by the embassy or consulate. If approved, you can collect your passport with the visa sticker attached. Check all the details on the visa carefully to ensure they are correct. If there are any errors, inform the embassy immediately.
Step 8: Prepare for Your Trip
With your Luxembourg visa in hand, you can now finalize your travel plans. Ensure you have all necessary documents, including your passport, visa, travel insurance, and proof of accommodation, when you travel. It's also a good idea to have copies of your documents in case of emergencies.
Tips for a Successful Application
Apply Early: Start your visa application process at least three months before your planned travel date to allow ample time for processing.
Be Thorough: Ensure all your documents are complete and accurate. Incomplete applications can lead to delays or rejection.
Provide Clear Evidence: Clearly demonstrate your ties to India, such as employment, property, or family, to show you intend to return after your visit.
Stay Informed: Check the official website of the Luxembourg embassy or consulate for any updates or changes in visa requirements.
Conclusion
Applying for a Luxembourg visa from India may seem daunting, but by following this step-by-step guide, you can navigate the process with ease. Ensure you have all the necessary documents, schedule your appointment early, and be prepared for your interview. With careful planning and attention to detail, you'll soon be on your way to experiencing the beauty and culture of Luxembourg.
By following these steps, you'll increase your chances of obtaining a Luxembourg visa from India, making your travel dreams a reality. Enjoy your trip!

Indian Tourism
Tourism in India is economically important and is growing rapidly. The World Travel & Tourism Council calculated that tourism generated ₹14.02 lakh crore (US$220 billion) or 9.6% of the nation's GDP in 2016 and supported 40.343 million jobs, 9.3% of its total employment. The sector is predicted to grow at an annual rate of 6.8% to ₹28.49 lakh crore (US$440 billion) by 2027 (10% of GDP).[1] In October 2015, India's medical tourism sector was estimated to be worth US$3 billion. It is projected to grow to $7–8 billion by 2020.[2] In 2014, 184,298 foreign patients traveled to India to seek medical treatment.[3]
About 88.90 lakh (8.89 million) foreign tourists arrived in India in 2016 compared to 80.27 lakh (8.027 million) in 2015, recording a growth of 10.7%.[4][5][6] Domestic tourist visits to all states and Union Territories numbered 1,036.35 million in 2012, an increase of 16.5% from 2011.[7] In 2014, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh were the most popular states for tourists.[8] Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Agra and Jaipur have been the five most visited cities of India by foreign tourists during the year 2015. Worldwide, Delhi is ranked at 28 by the number of foreign tourist arrivals, while Mumbai is ranked at 30, Chennai at 43, Agra at 45, Jaipur at 52 and Kolkata at 90.[9]
The Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Report 2017 ranks India 40th out of 136 countries overall. The report ranks the price competitiveness of India's tourism sector 10th out of 136 countries. It mentions that India has quite good air transport (ranked 32nd), particularly given the country’s stage of development, and reasonable ground transport infrastructure (ranked 29th). The country also scores high on natural and cultural resources (ranked 9th).[10] Some other aspects of its tourism infrastructure remain somewhat underdeveloped however. The nation has very few hotel rooms per capita by international comparison and low ATM penetration.[11] The World Tourism Organization reported that India's receipts from tourism during 2012 ranked 16th in the world, and 7th among Asian and Pacific countries.[12]
The Ministry of Tourism designs national policies for the development and promotion of tourism. In the process, the Ministry consults and collaborates with other stakeholders in the sector including various Central Ministries/agencies, state governments, Union Territories and the representatives of the private sector. Concerted efforts are being made to promote new forms of tourism such as rural, cruise, medical and eco-tourism.[13] The Ministry also maintains the Incredible India campaign focused on promoting tourism.

Visa policy of India
Visa policy of India  India  Visa not required  e-Tourist Visa  Visa required
India requires citizens of most countries to have a valid passport and apply for a visa at their local Indian embassy or consulate, before they travel. They can apply directly by mail or in person, or through their local travel services company. India has recently implemented an online method for citizens of 40 countries to apply and receive an e-Tourist Visa.[14] Nationals of Bhutan, Maldives and Nepal do not require a visa. Citizens of Afghanistan, Argentina, Bangladesh, DPR Korea, Jamaica, Maldives, Mauritius, Mongolia, Nepal, South Africa and Uruguay are not required to pay a fee when obtaining Indian visa.[15]
A Protected Area Permit (PAP) is required to enter the states of Nagaland and Sikkim and some parts of the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Manipur, Mizoram, Rajasthan and Uttaranchal. A Restricted Area Permit (RAP) is required to enter the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and parts of Sikkim. Special permits are needed to enter Lakshadweep Islands.[16]
e-Tourist Visa
In order to boost tourism,[17] the Indian Government implemented a new visa policy in November 2014 that allows visitors to obtain a visa on arrival at 16 designated international airports by acquiring an Electronic Travel Authorisation online before arrival without having to visit an Indian consulate or visa centre.[18] As a result, 56,477 tourists arrived on an e-Tourist Visa during the October 2015 compared to 2,705 during October 2014, an increase of 1987.9%. During January–October 2015 a total of 2,58,182 tourists arrived on an e-Tourist Visa as compared with 21,995 during January–October 2014, an increase of 1073.8%.[19]
On 27 November 2014, India introduced its visa on arrival enabled by ETA facility for tourists and business visitors, to citizens of following countries – Australia, Brazil, Cambodia, Cook Islands, Djibouti, Fiji, Finland, Germany, Indonesia, Israel, Japan, Jordan, Kenya, Kiribati, Laos, Luxembourg, Marshall Islands, Mauritius, Mexico, Micronesia, Myanmar, Nauru, New Zealand, Niue, Norway, Oman, Palau, Palestine, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Russia, Samoa, Singapore, Solomon Islands, South Korea, Thailand, Tonga, Tuvalu, UAE, Ukraine, USA, Vanuatu and Vietnam.[14] The facility was extended to China, Macau and Hong Kong on 30 July 2015.[20] The facility was further extended to citizens of Andorra, Argentina, Armenia, Aruba, Belgium, Bolivia, Colombia, Cuba, East Timor, Guatemala, Hungary, Ireland, Jamaica, Malta, Malaysia, Mongolia, Monaco, Mozambique, the Netherlands, Panama, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Seychelles, Slovenia, Spain, Sri Lanka, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Surinam, Sweden, Taiwan, Tanzania, Turks and Caicos Islands, the United Kingdom, Uruguay and Venezuela on 15 August 2015.[21]
The visa on arrival requires a tourist to apply online on a secure Government of India website, at least 4 to 30 days before the date of travel. If approved, the passenger must print and carry the approved visa with the travel documents. The visa allows holders of Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) to enter and stay anywhere in India for 30 days. The ETA can be obtained twice in a single calendar year.[14] The visa on arrival facility is expected to be expanded to about 180 countries over time. In April 2015 the scheme was renamed to e-Tourist Visa in order to avoid confusion.[22]

Now Get a Schengen Visa On An Indian Passport
Tumblr media
Applying for your first Schengen Visa can be a daunting experience. There are many documents to put together, several confusing questions to answer and countless clarifications to seek. Getting a Schengen Visa on an Indian passport is a complex process but the sooner you start with it, it is almost set you just have to plan out a trip. Because I believe a trip is the best reason for getting a visa and passport as we stay excited for it and pre-plan everything on the advance basis. Let's go through some common queries that the most first-timers have when applying for the Schengen Visa.
What is a Schengen visa and when do you need it?
A Schengen Visa is a document that allows you to travel within the Schengen area, commonly for a period of up to 90 days. Twenty-six countries make up the Schengen area, and if you plan on travelling to one or more of these countries, you will need this visa. The countries are Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.
As an Indian, where and how do I apply for the Schengen Visa?
The Schengen countries have outsourced their visa application cells to VFS Global, a company which now handles the entire process, making it simpler and faster. There is also no requirement to go to the embassy anymore. VFS Global has five centres in India – Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Puducherry and Bengaluru.
To start off the process, log on to VFS Global's website, and go to the bottom left of the screen, where you will see this:
Tumblr media
After entering the appropriate details (for multi-country trips, select your "main destination". you will be directed to another screen where you will be able to download the visa form, find information on visa fees and make an appointment to submit the visa form along with supporting documents.
What do I need to take care of before my appointment?
Put all the documents you need to produce together – there are quite a few of them. You'll find the entire list on the VFS website; while most are fairly straightforward, others require some clarification. I've talked about them in brief here:
Cover letter: Though this isn't listed as one of the required documents, it is best to submit a cover letter as a comprehensive reference paper for the visa officials. Start by addressing the embassy through which you are applying for the visa. The body of your letter should include the dates of your trip, the names and professions of those accompanying you, the purpose of your travel, and a paragraph on how you plan of bearing the expenses on this journey – mention real figures pertaining to your savings, credit cards and fixed deposits. Also list down the documents you will be submitting along with your visa application.
Hotel bookings: Unfortunately, you will have to book your flight tickets and hotels before you apply for the visa. While this in no way confirms that you will get the visa, officials need to establish that you are indeed going for tourism via your accommodation confirmations.
Travel insurance: For emergency hospital or other medical expenses, you will have to get mandatory travel insurance worth Euro 30,000. It will keep you protected against large bills in case something goes wrong. VFS has a list of approved insurance providers on its website, and it's best to pick from amongst them. Once you buy it, your insurance will be delivered to your email inbox.
Financials: The country you are travelling to wants to know that you have enough money to make it through the trip and go back. For this you will submit a bunch of your financial documents such as bank account statements for the last six months, income tax returns for the last three years and others – a list of which you'll find on the VFS website.
If you are unsure of anything on the visa form, leave it blank and clarify with the official at VFS before submitting it to him.
What is the estimated time for the entire process? How long will it take for the visa to arrive?
The first thing you need to remember is to schedule your appointment with VFS at least a month or a month-and-a-half before your scheduled departure. If you can do it sooner, it will give you more time to make your real bookings at hotels. Once you get your appointment date, it will only take a day if you have all your documents in order. A year or two ago, you would also have an interview after submitting the documents at VFS. These days that only happens in rare cases ,where they have a cause for suspicion that you don't plan on coming back. So once you are done with VFS, you should get your visa within seven days. I got my visa to Italy in three days.
What if my visa is rejected? Will my fee be refunded?
Sadly, under no circumstance will your visa fee be refunded. If your visa is denied for some reason, you have two options: One is to appeal the decision. Since the appeal will be evaluated by someone other than the person who rejected your visa, there is a chance that the decision will be overturned. But the visa appeal process might take a few weeks, or even months. Also, in India this process is only available for Spain, Germany and Norway. So the second and better way to go forward, is to reapply through a different Schengen state embassy. Usually, a previous visa denial will not automatic lead to the refusal of a new application, and the new application will be assessed independently.

Do I have to hand over the documents personally at VFS?
Yes, you, along with whoever you are travelling with have to be personally present while you hand over the papers. After you have successfully submitted the documents, scans of your fingerprint will also be taken (the first time you are applying for a visa).
If I am travelling to more than one Schengen country, which embassy do I apply through?
You will have to apply to the “main destination”, the country where you will be staying in for the most number of days.
Do I apply through the country I am entering the Schengen area?
No, you don't have to if you won't be staying the most number of days there.
Should my first trip be to the country that issued the Schengen Visa?
No. You can enter through any Schengen country after you get your visa.
If I'm travelling for work first and and then taking a short vacation, do I tick business or tourism in my visa form?
Business. Get an invitation letter for the first few days from your foreign business partner, and then show hotel bookings for the rest of the days.
How long is the visa valid for?
You are allowed to travel in the Schengen Area for 90 days within a 180-day period. These 90 days, however, do not have to be consecutive. Say you enter the area in March and stay for 50 days, and then come back in August for 20 days, this totals to 70 days in 180 days.
Can my visa be extended?
A Schengen Visa, which has already expired, cannot be extended. Even otherwise, while on paper you can extend it, an extended visa rarely comes through.
Will my air tickets be refunded if I don't get a visa?
No. To help minimise risk, book a flight ticket that is refundable to the largest amount possible.
What are the common reasons behind a visa being rejected?
There can be a few reasons why an embassy might reject your request for a Schengen Visa.
– The documents and cover letter you have provided prove inadequate in establishing the purpose of your travel and stay
– There is a mismatch between your travel itinerary and the visa period you have applied for
– Your supporting documents do not show accommodation for each night you will spend in a Schengen Area
– You do not have enough funds to support your travel
– Your travel insurance policy is not valid across the Schengen Area
– You were unable to respect Schengen Visa limitations during a previous attempt
But don't worry; if you put everything together carefully and meticulously, and don't have a criminal record, the chances of you getting your Schengen Visa are very high, because the cities are awaiting for you, have a look!

How to get an urgent Indian e-visa
Tumblr media
An urgent Indian e-visa is given to those foreigners who have to come to India on an emergency basis. The visa is also called an Emergency Indian visa. If you live out of India, and you need to come to India for emergency and unplanned cases like the death of your relative or loved one, attending the court for legal purposes and your relative or loved one is suffering from a serious disease, then you can apply for an urgent tourist-visa to come to India. Unlike other visas, an Emergency visa to India/Urgent Indian evisa application takes much less time to be processed. If you want to come to India for the purposes like sightseeing, visiting a friend, attending cross-cultural marriages, then you can’t apply for an Indian emergency visa because such situations are not considered emergency ones. Therefore, you need to apply for other types of visas. One thing that makes the urgent/emergency Indian e-visa application is that it can be processed even on weekends for those who have to come to India for some emergency or unplanned reasons.
The Emergency Indian e-visa issuance takes 1 to 3 working days when the application is completed properly, required documents are submitted and full payment is done. For an extremely urgent visa, you may need to pay a higher fee to benefit from this convenience. This Urgent Processing or Fast track Visa Services are available for Tourist, Medical, Business, Conference and Medical Attendant visa seekers.
Things to remember when you apply for the Urgent/Emergency visa to India:
In comparison to other visas, getting an Emergency visa approved is more difficult, as it is subject to approval only. In medical and death cases, you will be required to provide the officials with a copy of letter from the hospital to prove the illness or death. If you don’t do so, your Emergency Visa to India application will be rejected.
Take full responsibility for providing correct details like your phone number, email address and social messenger for communication regarded additional information.
The Urgent visa application is not processed on the National holidays of India like Republic Day on 26 January, Independence Day on 15 August, Gandhi Jayanti on 2 October etc.
If an applicant has more than one valid passport, damage in the passport, an expired or valid visa, already given visa still valid or multiple visas, then their application may take up to 4 days for the Government decision.
Documents required for an Emergency Visa to India
As already mentioned, you have to submit copies of documents proving the death or illness of your dear one.
A scanned copy of your passport having a six-month validity with two blank pages. The size should be 4MB or less. a recent coloured photo of yours having a white background to ensure clarity. You may use a digital image taken with a high-quality smartphone for this purpose.
How you will receive the Urgent Indian e-visa:
Like other visas, the Emergency visa is also given on arrival. The visa will be stamped in the airport you use to reach India. You can reach the particular immigration officer by following the signboards that are clearly noticeable. One more thing you must remember is that you should choose the airport that is closest to your intended destination India. The less busy it is, the faster your visa will be processed.
