Spoliers:Why Gus’s grief hit us so hard.
So Spoilers. So much pain in these last few episodes. In the last episode alone we witnessed so much closeness between our cast, and so much tragedy when everything they cared about was ripped away. And it ended in the saddest way it could.
Tumblr media
With Gus just falling to the ground sobbing and all of us crying with him. Poor kid won’t calm down tonight..
Tumblr media
But that’s okay buddy after everything that’s happened its gonna take all your friends and fans a while to calm down too.
We see a lot of characters cry this episode, the last half of it is very sad. So why does watching Gus cry beak us so much?
Is it because it is the first thing he does in the human realm, a place he has always been fascinated by and wanted to visit?
Is it because he is only 12 and the baby of the group?
Is it because Gus has spent 2 and 3/4 of the show as such a happy and bubbly kid and in the past couple episodes his happy demeanor has been steadily evaporating much to all of his friends concern?
Is it because there is absolutely no way to go get or call Perry to come help his son feel better?
Is it the subtle implications through out the show that, like with Camila and Luz, Perry is a widower and Gus’s second parent died a long time ago (,As we have seen in this realm children can come from either hetro couples or homo couples so its just as possible Gus once has 2 dads as that he once had a dad and a mom) and now he has lost both parents?
Is it how much hunter and Willow are shown to be trying to comfort and take care of him; and how Dana seems to be cleverly turning these three into a foil/parallel of the family that Caleb/Phillip/and Caleb’s wife could have been if Phillip had been able to accept his brother’s change in perspective/ new life?
Tumblr media
Is it perhaps all of these reasons?

More Idea’s for multi-track students
Multi-track studies is starting to become more popular at hexside
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Edric and Emira taking multi-tracks has literally been the ending I have wanted for them since 1x12 “Adventures In The Elements” when we learned they are top scorers, and got strong hints that one reason they skip school frequently is that they are bored in class and do not see the point when they already know most of whats being taught. Like I do not care about seeing them in ships (I have seen people post pretty compelling reasons why they should at least become friends with Viney and Hunter, and I would like to know whom the “date” Edric went out with in TtLG is, but ultimately that is not what I am most interested in with them) just put my children into a curriculum that is both challenging and rewarding to them. Its even better that while they are still taking illusion together (something they have always done as a team); they also have classes where they will be separated and can have their own space to pursue individual interests. I don’t think anyone has pointed this out yet but Edric and Emira are only like 1 year younger than Stan and Ford were in A-Tale-of-Two-Stans and we got a tiny glimpse of them starting to have similar problems to Stan and Ford in Grom. So changing things up now can help spare them a lot of bad/issues down the road.
Now let’s move on to Mattholomule. Him deciding to take illusions along with construction is something I did not see coming, but I love it. Thank you Gus. It makes a lot of sense too. We saw Matt try and do construction magic in TtLG and we saw how his efforts were... kinda rough/ not exactly tuned. Its not that he is necessarily bad/has no talent for construction. It’s just that he seems to struggle a bit with turning images in his head into actual objects outside his body. This is a very real and common issue for a lot of people. It does not mean give up, it just means that maybe someone needs to add an extra step or try apply a diffrent way of going about a task. Illusion magic is a perfect example of that. Lets say Matt needs to design a structure. Do it in illusion first. Get the height, angle , and all those little details smoothed out. Then use the illusionary structure as a diagram for the real 3d structure. By Labyrinth runners Mattholomules magic has already become much more fluid. He may have started out as just a stooge for a jerk who had an easier time than him,but our little construction rat will make a great witch yet.
Now with season 2 ending and season 3 shortened I do not expect many more episodes to take place in Hexside (sighs because Hexside is one of my favorite places in the boiling isles) and I really do not think we will have time for an episode surrounding the cast trying to encourage more into students into multi-tracks. But we could still get an ending where the show is going over all the changes that have been made on the isles over the course of the show, and one scene shows a bunch of secondary/background characters now wearing multi-track uniforms as they mingle around Hexside. Here are some ideas for who may be interested in what.
Skara: Starts taking healing as well as bard magic. She very well may already want this. So much of Skara’s time and so many of her actual genuine friends are with the healing track
Boshca: I could maybe see Boscha, if given the opportunity, deciding to take beast keeping as well as potions. Fairies would be her favorite beast.
Puffer fish headed Abomination Student who “just wants to get through the year”: you know the one with the cute sloth palisman. I am less sure about him than some of these others, but what if he starts taking oracle and abominations.
redheaded queer oracle student: oracle and bard
Hunter: So whatever Hunter decides to do at the end of the season and whomever he decides to go with we all agree he will be enrolling at Hexisde right? As for what classes he will take I can see him enrolling in potions and plants. (Not just for Willow, again I am not basing these off ships). Both are courses he could take even with his setback of not having a bilesack, both kind of fit in with the types of wild magic he has let himself slip into having fun discussions with Luz on. And the colors to those tracks could kinda represent his two personas “The Golden Guard” and “Caleb, star player of the Emerald Entrails” and him fully fledging into his own person. If these two are not enough for him maybe throw in oracle, depends on if that would make him more or less anxious.
Amity: okay so I can never see Willow or Gus taking multi-track classes. I really think they are supposed to be personifications of plant and illusion magic and all that those particular tracks are capable of. So if that's the rule for Luz’s inner circle of friends, and accounting for just ho much Amity has been shown to genuinely care about and have passion for Abomination magic, then I kind of want her to just sick with it... But I also note just how much she has been shown to care about and be passionate for books and literature. So I would also maybe like to see her join the bard track and go on to write abomination tutorials or stories surrounding abomination witches.

How many friends does she really have left?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Remember the scenes with Boscha in “Any Sport in a Storm” When she was bothering Lumity while they are trying to get people to join there “Azura Book Club“. Some people, myself included, picked up on how hard she was making fun of the books but still took one and started reciting it in public, a few even pointed out how her eyes were closed at that she was likely doing it from memory. Secret Azura fan Boshca confirmed!
But then Amity shows up to tell Luz that Azura’s author is doing a book signing that day and the pair leave Boshca to attend. (If Boscha could not verbalize wanting to join their club, there is no way she could verbalize wanting t go with them). Boscha yells out “you two aren’t cute!” (Lie) and “I still have more friends than you!”... possible lie when you look at how her social circle has been diminishing.
In season one Boscha is either leader of the cool girls/ mean girls, or co-leaders with Amity, I don’t fully remember which. She is the Top athlete in school, and more than likely a pretty powerful potions witch. Grudgby is the first episode to really explore Boscha’s mindset and it is mentioned in that that while she is celebrated around Hexside for her skills and accomplishment on the field, she is also feared for her strength and aggression on and off the field. It is also mentioned that Boscha is okay with that, uses it as an edge if you will. Fine, whatever, its her life, I am not a jock. From an outside looking in perspective it seems like all of Boscha’s inner circle of friends are people friends people who play on her team, used to play, or people she knew for years.
Amity and Skara are her best friends in season 1. Amity is an interesting case because she quite the Grudgby team a year ago, giving Boscha her spot as Captain. Boscha is quit possibly a better captain than Amity was. Yet Boscha still remains friends with Amity and in the beginning would take taunts from her and suck up to her. Whatever reason (possibly their mothers, possibly their school image) the two stayed friends after Amity quit, is rendered unimportant though as Amity begins pulling away from Boscha after “Understanding Willow”, calling her actions and the way she scares people around school “pathetic and childish”.  Boscha cares at first, but when Amity comes to Luz and Willows aid on the Grudgby field against Boscha the two’s friendship is effectively severed.
Skara is Boscha’s oldest friend, and while she has always been the sweet to Boscha’s sour, complimenting people she knows Boscha doesn’t like, and in some cases even trying to give people Boscha wants to embarrass outs, she has never before openly opposed her. Boscha has always seemed to important to Skara to cross... or at least she was before. In “Any Sport in a Storm” Skara is shown having left Grudgeby and Joins Willow’s flyer derby team. Definitely a hard pill for Boscha to swallow. After joining the flyer derby team Skara becomes new BFF’s with Viney, another pill for Boshca.  Labyrinth runners opens with Skara walking the halls with Cat and Bo,happily chatting, so we know she is still friends with them, They both seem like good friends. But she is noticeably standing on the opposite side of the crowed from Boscha and the pair do not interact at all; adding to the theory that the two girls had a falling out sometime off screen.
That would leave Boscha with just Amelia (green haired plant track student) and Cat (darker skinned healing track student square glasses) as friends. Amelia has been absent from all of season 2. She has not been seen hanging out with her old crew, or sitting in class, or walking around town. This all sounds like she moved to a new part of the titan and no longer attends Hexside.  Good-bye Amelia, it would have been nice to know more about you. Cat has made a few cameo’s: One in “Any Sport in a Storm” where she is standing in a crowd watching Hunter air surf, though she does not join the team. Next in Labyrinth runners she is seen spending time with Skara and Bo before school, then is in the healing homeroom taking care of the students who are hiding there. In none of these cameo’s is she anywhere near Boscha. Cat’s wiki says she is the new girl to the popular group, Amity’s replacement for the Grudgby team. She has also always been really quiet around Boscha. She may have actually been scared of Boscha herself.
These are the only friends Boscha is shown to have. I mean she gets a photo of herself taken at Grom with Selene and Bo, but Selene never talks to the popular girls outside of that one scene. Bo was never portrayed as one of their group. In season 1 she is shown practicing magic with Skara, when Skara isn’t around Boscha or Amity, and she may have formed a friendship with Cat by season 2, But those are the only two she seems to see as Friends.   In conclusion the mighty have fallen, and Boscha may actually not have any friends left. Amity and Skara do not seem to want to be her friends anymore, Amelia is gone, her and Cat were not close. She may have wanted to join a new club as a way to look for new friends, but she did not know how to ask for help or a chance. I am almost sad for her.
