Mitsume fascinates me as a character bc she wanted to live her own life but was trapped in this hell of suffering and theft, watching her beloved child go through horrors just for the chance to TALK to her. So I really delved into those emotions. Very proud of the result.

These count as one entry bc they are supposed to match. Clash of Violets is written like a TTFC special - in my head this fic is called “Kamen Rider Buffa x Kamen Rider Violet: Clash of Violets”. Tying in my shared HC that Michinaga is a timelost TsuDai child, he and his unknown sister Sumire find themselves kidnapped by a strange cult out for the blood of Decade’s children who had abandoned their monster lovers. Phantom Clashes is a more fanfiction sequel where Michinaga deals with the aftermath of losing Tooru and confesses his mental health issues to Neon and Keiwa. Some of my proudest works!

Seems like they're diving into the Yōkai theming for the four main riders.

Which begs the question, what's Buffa going to be?

My guess? Ushi-Oni, otherwise known as Gyuki.

They're Ox Demons, hence the name, and are noted to have savage, brutal personalities, breathe poison, and eat humans.

Michinaga definitely has the personality, zombies eat humans, and the Zombie buckle noticeably has the keyword "Poison."

Why is that second point important? When a buckle is used with the Magnum Shooter, the announcement is "[Buckle Name] Tactical Blast," or "Great Tactical Blast" when using a Super buckle. Zombie's is "Poison Tactical Blast." It's the only one with a weapon keyword different than the Buckle name.

The only thing that really gets in the way of this theory is the fact that Oxen and Buffalo are different types of animal, and even then Buffa's helmet design has the horns being much closer to that of an Ox as compared to a Buffalo.

Yet another mini Geats meta, like as much as the series have it's ups and downs... when it comes to powerups... the show had their heads straight when it comes to KeiAce.

Like it's not just due to the colour motives, but their whole themes being very on point.

I mean, just comparing the base (most compatible buckle) to the final forms (not counting Oneness and Dooms)

Like look at Na-go/Buffa main form and final form... aside from the animal motives, did the other stuff have any correlation with each other? (Like how it was for KeiAce?) Nope! Seriously their 'upgrades' felt off.

I mean I do like Beat and Fantasy (And Fantasy did suit Neon's personal growth as she took advantage of her unique existence) but what's the correlation between Beat and Fantasy? Why an upgrade to Beat equals Fantasy?

Same with Zombie and Ploison. Like Ploison buckle did have the demon vibe.... but the armour din feel very demony (like what demon wear silver armor?) but the clawshield really felt like a downgrade. You mean to say an upgrade to having a cool chainsaw that also shoots out poison... was to get a lame ass giant shield?

It really feels like whoever's in charge of Na-Go/Buffa powerups really didn't put too much thoughts in them as compared to Tycoon/Geats. I mean, as much as Geats and Tycoon did also share mutual powerups (Boost MK II & Command Jet/Cannon*), those powerups still fit them very well.

Tl;dr.... KeiAce still the best 😃😃😃😃😃

*imma not counting Buffa's use of Command Jet... cos compared to KeiAce, Michi sucks at using Command form lol. And sadly, we never got to see Neon use Command form... do we? (Shame...)

**As much as some ppl might argue that Ploison was supposed to be more plant than an upgrade to the undead theme, i just don't see it. Also even if taking count on the Jyamato cells, the Jyamato were basically plant creatures that consume dead bodies anyway... you can't exactly remove the undead/evil element out of Ploison.

5th Review - Kamen Rider Geats

When it was revealed this season  was going to be a battle royale, I had a very gut reaction to that. It was either going to be an insufferable trend hopper, or something amazing. Of course I was hoping for the latter, but there have been shows with promise that turned out bad, and this, to me, was a show with a bad premise that could turn out amazing. And it definitely was a great show, despite what misgivings I had. But as I sit here, having watched the finale, and following that up with the mid-season finale of Kingohger, I can’t help but be more invested in Sentai than Rider. So let’s talk about this show, it’s ups and its downs, and see why I feel that way…

The Good: The standout aspect of Geats is its plot. A torrent of twists, always high stakes, almost every character gets a chance to play both hero and villain; it’s the strongest element of the show. There’s a drastic shift every 10 or so episodes, the majority of the first two-thirds of the show is two-parters to give each story its own weight. It’s exactly the kind of crazy, over-the-top story you’d expect and love to see from Kamen Rider.

There’s also a huge roster of characters over the course of the show, though only five I’d consider main ones. First is Ace, the titular Geats. Enigmatic, deceptive, and kind-hearted, Ace is our main character, but doesn’t feel like our main character. We learn things about Geats, but he doesn’t go through any real character development, especially compared to his co-stars. Still, not knowing his goals or motivations is part of the fun.

Next is Keiwa, Kamen Rider Tycoon. In a rare twist, he acts as our actual main character, rather than our title Rider. A goody-two-shoes to a fault, he opts to use any and all wishes he has for the sake of others up until he loses everything and has his brief villain stint. A lot of his development involves trust, whether trying to forge it with others or regain it himself.

Next is our rival Rider Michinaga, aka Kamen Rider Buffa. Hard edges, but occasionally sweet, Michi has a good heart, but is very bad at articulating it past his rough exterior. Most of his development comes at the end of the show, involving him warming up to the rest of the team, with most of his story being about him gaining and losing power, and seeing how he uses it. 

Then we have Neon, Kamen Rider Na-Go. A bit of an in-between of Keiwa and Michinaga, she’s nice, but is willing to trick and betray when push comes to shove, however rarely ever would she put someone in harm's way doing so. She wants love, and discovers it in many forms over the course of the show. She’s also the female Rider with the most Form Changes, including her own (mostly) unique final form.

Lastly is the only non-Rider, Tsumuri. Seemingly the only member of the DGP with a conscience, she goes back and forth between her loyalty to her employers and contestants, before ultimately siding against the corrupt DPG. And most of her development as a character ties into that, mostly relating to how close she gets with Ace.

And the last thing I want to talk about here is the designs, specifically the belt. The Desire Driver is such a great culmination of elements from previous belts, with the swappable face plates and rotating gimmick. The fact that you can swap out the face plates also means every belt is drastically different looking, and, at a consumer level, allows for heavy levels of customization and preference. The Geats specific Buckles are also very inspired. We start with the Magnum and Boost Buckles, which everyone can use, and move onto the Laser and Boost Mk-II Buckles. Laser being an actual weapon turned Buckle is a great physical evolution of the Buckle concept, and Boost Mk-II starting out large, but drab, and exploding into bright, chromed color, is a nice parallel to many of the characters in the show, even if it’s only used by Ace. The suit is also nice, with the two-form Boost Mk-II suit having the Laser elements layered on top of it, rather than being split down the waist like the others. And then there’s Boost Mk-III/Mk-IX, which I didn’t understand when I saw the initial photos of the toy, but made much more sense in action. Splitting into the chrome red and white halves to mimic Geats’ other forms, but then exploding on the flip into the Kitsune motif, unifying the belt’s colors as well as covering up the now upsidown Core is extremely clever. And the suit being made out of a little robot fox is cool, too. A fantastic amount of detail and thought was put into Geats’ costumes and gimmicks this year.

The Bad: But I feel like the main issue with the show also stems from Geats. Ace is our main character, but he’s rarely, if ever, the focus. Considering the story does follow his progression to godhood, it makes sense that he is, but Keiwa fills the role of traditional main character for the majority of the season, and I feel like that causes a bit of a tonal disconnect at times. We follow Keiwa going on these emotional journeys, only to have Ace take center stage when the combat starts and steal the show. Not that both of them don’t dip their toes into each other's categories, but that’s how most of the show plays out.

One of a few minor thing that does bug me is that while Michi does get a boosted form for a brief time, he doesn’t ever move past the Zombie Buckle. It’s been announced he will be receiving a Rage Buckle post-season, but it’s not the same as getting it during the show. And while I feel like the finale has great resolution for the heroic characters in the show, the resolution for the villainous characters, while they do get their just desserts, feels rather unspecific and boring whereas it could have been more thematic.

Overall, those’re my thoughts on Geats. A bit more brief than normal, but this show’s many twists do make it difficult to write anything about it that isn’t either short or very long. I do think the disconnect between Ace and Keiwa’s roles is what bothers me about the show, but it’s still fantastic, and I would highly recommend it.

Next up is Gotchard, which, as silly as that name and premise are, does look to be quite fun.

The World Where Everyone Can Be Happy

Blazar: It's the heat of summer and the others see Gento reading a book by his former teacher, and one time GGF Kaijuoligist, Yokomine Kazunori. When persistent inverted rainbows appear, he goes to fish with him again, and Yokomine tells a story of his youth, of his village praying to Nijikagachi for rainz but if evil he will bring a storm. Nijikagachi appears near Mt. Fuji, and unaware of its nature, Earth Garon goes to fight, but Teruaki and Gento realise what it is. Nijikagachi goes from place to place bringing rain, Emi researching it's history. Gento goes to Kazunori to tell him more, who confirms he summoned it, and has come to believe humanity needs to be reset, having become arrogant and destroyed the Kaiju and nature, and blasts Gento. With seven typhoons formed, Gento and Anri take Earth Garon to fight Nijikagachi, but Kazunori opens its armour and it disables Earth Garon. Blazar fights, but is overwhelmed, defeated by Nijikagachi, Teruaki, Yasunobu and Emi planning to rescue Anri and Gento, unaware the captain is lying on the ground in the forest.

Geats: Keiwa and Sara eat at Tanuki Soba, while Sara is watching a Neon Channel video dancing video. Ziin visits a temple, plays with a coin, then addresses Ace, looking to a shrine where the petrified Geats-IX Buckle rests, greeting Tsumuri, who maintains the shrine, as Michinaga works with his colleagues. Immediately after Tsumuri fired, Black Tsumuri left her body, having used her to achieve their goal, Suel expunges the rebelling audience portion, declaring that he can't stop Ace being reborn, but he can reshape the world before it happens, they leave her in regret. Black Tsumuri announces Ace's death and that the remaining interference will be dealt with, as Regard Omega attacks Keiwa and Neon. Tsumuri cries over Ace, who suddenly speaks to her ethereally, telling her he had prepared for this, and goodbye. Buffa joins the fight as Regard Omega first accelerates himself and then rewinds all of their time, however the three all refuse to give up, and are rewarded by the arrival of Geats Magnum Boost on the Boostriker. After Mitsume's death he'd understood he needed to become a god to stop management, his body may be gone, but he's still here. He grants the other's desire to fight with him, and the three overpower Regard Omega, who tries to rewind their time again only to be confronted by Geats-IX,who ultimately overpowers him. Suel seems to have survived, only for Ace to burst out from within him, and recreate the world, telling his friends that this will be the world where everyone can be happy, though they point out that should include him, he tells them to forget him. Samas freaks out to Black Tsumuri about the 4D gate closing, Girori meanwhile accepts their fate, recognising the world should be shaped by those living in it, not their future manipulation. Ziin informs Tsumuri that there are plans to make a DGP built on granting wishes not sacrifice, and she agrees to an offer to become navigator again. Tsumuri looks at wishes left at the shrine. Win aims to pursue his rock dreams again, Daichi is raising his Jamato hoping for a world where they live alongside humanity, Michinaga enjoys eating with his colleagues, Sara enjoys her daily life, among other things, Neon, who is now assisted by Kyuun as producer, wishes for her prince charming, and Sakurai Keiwa wishes for world peace. Ace examines these and other wishes, and promises they will come true as long as they continue to wish for them. A young man chases after a card he calls Hopper-1, and Ace wishes him happiness too.

Kingohger: The Ohsama Sentai engage Deathnarok, Gira requests he give up, but Deathnarok argues humanity defeated them and declared Bugnarok the villains, the only way he can change that is eliminating them. When he won't consider the future of the Bugnarok, Jeramie challenges him to single combat for the Bugnarok throne, giving him the Kumonos Slayer until the appointed time as proof of his word. He then requests to the others that when he becomes King, they recognise Bugnarok as Tikyu's 6th kingdom, and asks they allow him to show something. Yanma and Kaguragi wait on standby, as Jeramie leads Gira and Rita into Bugnarok territory, and Himeno discovers from studying Gerojim that Bugnarok are genetically almost the same as humans. Jerami reveals a mass grave of Guardian Cicadas, presumably those from the Fury of the Gods, gathered by Bugnarok and their Shugod Souls consumed across 2000 years by Bugnarok, gradually taking on their abilities and mutating them into their current forms, this is probably why the Shugods allied with humanity. Punctuated by Deathnarok consuming soldiers challenging him for the throne, Jeramie explains that since losing the war the Bugnarok have fought amongst and consumed eachother, with the strongest reigning as king. Gerojim reveals that the cost of Bugnarok eating a Shugod Soul to grow is that it will eventually kill them, while remaining evasive about his own continued life. Jeramie reveals a small Tarantula Shugod that refuses to leave despite his attempts to protect it, Gira learns from it that Deathnarok has protected it all this time. It goes to Deathnarok, trying to comfort him, and he sends it away, but with regret. Jeramie and Deathnarok fight, he drags Deathnarok to the surface and tries to make him turn from the hatred, believing he wants to make peace but can't. When Deathnarok refuses he prepares to take his life, and Gira intervenes, declaring that while the Bugnarok were the aggressors, the treatment they have received and has been visited on their descendents was also wrong. Deathnarok recognises the sincerity and puts down his sword. And then Kamejim impales him on his staff and calls down a fireball, announcing he will not allow an end to the war he has been engineering all this time. Jeramie tried to pull Deathnarok free, but the former king pulls him close, telling the new king to prove the Bugnarok are here, and push him away, and dies in the fireball. Kamejim eats a soul and grows, only to be defeated by God King-Ohger, declaring humans the victors of the war. The King's agree to recognise Bugnarok with Jeramie as it's king, and he makes an address to the people of Tikyu, acknowledging that they aren't going to forget the differences overnight, but telling them that the hostilities are over, and begging that they not pass the prejudices to future generations. It isn't that day yet, but he believes a day will come when humanity and Bugnarok can join hands. We now enter a new chapter, of 6 kings who united their world in peace, and of the threat that is coming.
