Overall, I just think Harry (and Louis) always have a great time in LatAm, and perhaps particularly so in Brazil.

UN: Lula warns multilateralism is being eroded

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva told the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Tuesday that global multilateralism is being eroded, Agencia Brasil reported. In his eighth speech to the forum and the first of his third presidency, Lula also spoke about protectionism and the difficulty of resolving conflicts.

 Opening the general debate of heads of state at the 78th United Nations (UN) General Assembly in New York, Lula defended the need to reform the global governance system.

Since taking office, Lula has argued in speeches at various international forums that the current model of governance, created after World War II, no longer reflects the geopolitics of the 21st century. For the president, there must be adequate representation of emerging countries in bodies such as the UN Security Council. Today, this council, which has the power to make major international decisions, includes only the United States, Russia, China, France and the United Kingdom.

“We will remain critical of any attempt to divide the world into zones of influence and to revive the Cold War. The UN Security Council is gradually losing its credibility. This fragility stems in particular from the actions of its permanent members, who wage unauthorized wars in pursuit of territorial expansion or regime change. Its paralysis is the most eloquent proof of the need and urgency to reform it and make it more representative and effective,” Lula said.

The prototypes of the KF-21 Boramae fighter from South Korean Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) are currently undergoing several ground tests at the manufacturer's premises in Sacheon, before the inaugural flight of one of the fighters scheduled for next month.

According to KAI, 95% of the pre-flight soil tests were completed. A total of 6 flight aircraft prototypes and 2 ground test models are being tested at KAI. The 6 flying prototypes will carry out more than 2,000 test flight missions before the KF-21 is declared operational.

Since the launch of the first aircraft prototype last year, several prototypes of the KF-21 have undergone several ground tests.

Lockheed Martin is an official partner of the KF-X program. When the Republic of Korea Air Force acquired 40 F-35A fighters from Lockheed, one of the main clauses of the contract included technology transfers, four of which were categorized as "essential technologies" necessary for the development of the KF-21.

The four "main technologies" were: EFSA radar, radio frequency countermeasure system, By electro-optical designator (EO-TGP) and Infrared Search and Tracking Sensor (IRST).

However, as the U.S. Congress considered them very sensitive and the technology transfer has not been completed, these technologies are being developed internally.

Since these core technologies are considered extremely sensitive and are the intellectual property of South Korea, any exported systems will be maintained by South Korean engineers. For example, the KF-21 exported to Indonesia will have to be supervised by South Korean engineers when radars and other sensitive subsystems need to be maintained.

This is not exclusive to the KF-21. Most, if not all, major defense manufacturers impose similar requirements to protect sensitive technology. Users of the F-15E and F-35 variants cannot freely maintain their aircraft without Boeing or Lockheed Martin engineers, for example.

The KF-21 is expected to replace the F-4 of the Republic of Korea Air Force (ROKAF) and F-5 (and eventually even F-15K and KF-16) and will operate alongside the most advanced F-35A in ROKAF inventory.

The KF-21 is a joint project between South Korea and Indonesia in which Seoul holds 80% of the shares while Jakarta owns 20%.

I think it’s very important for us to talk about conscious consumption today. The consequences of over-consumption are very dangerous for us, so we need to reflect on some questions like the human rights in the fashion industry and the impacts on the natural world. Considering that in our time social media has a strong impact on our ways of consuming, I don’t think we can talk about conscious consumption today separately from the role of social media. Now the TikTok is one of the biggest social media in the world. It was created especially for young people who use social media a lot for all activities, even shopping.

Today one billion people use this social media and Brazil is the second nation in the ranking of users in TikTok. According to TikTok the majority of the users are between 16 and 24 years old. In addition, Brazilian users stay on this platform for more than five hours a day. One of the incredible data is that a quarter of users see the goods on post and soon after go shopping to buy that.

In my opinion we need to challenge social media, like TikTok, influencers and world-famous brands to take responsibility for conscious consumption. It’s necessary to show for the users more information about the conditions on which the goods are made for example. Also it is a good idea that TikTok promote campaigns about key issues in the conscious consumption, inviting influencers to talk about that in your posts.

I don't believe that it’s possible to overcome this problem without a big change in the model of society, but it’s possible to reduce the damages with collective actions and compromise assumed by the key economic actors.

USAF grants contracts for the development of a new missile for the F-35

The U.S. Air Force (USAF) has hired three major companies in the sector to start working on the development of the Stand-in Attack Weapon (SiAW) missile that will equip F-35 fighters.

Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin and L3Harris Technologies received contracts of US$ 2 million each for the first phase of the program, which will last three months. During this period, each of the companies must demonstrate its missile capabilities under a digital acquisition approach that emphasizes agility and innovation.

The goal of the SiAW program is to develop a missile that allows the Joint Strike Fighter - and potentially other aircraft in the USAF fleet - to attack mobile platforms against access and area denial. Air defense systems, missile launchers, GPS blockers and anti-satellite systems are among the potential targets of the new missile.

During phase 1 of the SiAW competition, the U.S. Air Force intends to align the technical capabilities of the SiAW missile system with the requirements of the Air Combat Command and the Reference Architecture of the Air Force Arms Government. Tasks include establishing an integrated digital environment to design, develop and test the initial increment of the SiAW missile system using a digital engineering methodology and model-based systems engineering best practices.

Northrop Grumman completed the flight tests with its new anti-access/area denial (A2/AD) missile, based on the U.S. Navy's AARGM-ER, demonstrating capabilities that would meet the main objectives of the next SiAW program.

According to budget documents, the U.S. Air Force plans to invest $1.9 billion in SiAW by 2027, with the tax order in 2023 including $283.2 million for the program.
