Courting pair of spotted boxfish (Ostracio meleagris camurum). Cute, but apparently you have to keep boxfish really happy if you foolishly keep them with other fish in an aquarium. When stressed they release plume of ostracitoxin (also known as pahutoxin), a hemolytic surfactant that can kill other fish in the tank within hours. Protip: this is also why you should never eat boxfish. Makalawena Beach, Hawai’i.
