Hot compost in the greenhouse (subject of tomorrow night's live show on YouTube at 9 pm est). I took chicken bedding from the winter run and layered it with straw (for a little more air between layers) made sure it was moist. Its now up to 120 degrees and cooking. Cleaning chicken housing is a chore that leads to making compost. The bins of chicken litter fo to the compost bays where to make much needed, highly prized compost. The bays are filled with the poultry litter, plant and yard debris, vegetables scraps, paper scraps, coffee grinds, tea leaves, egg shells and beyond eating leftovers. After all the leafs we picked up, I decided I’m going to make some leaf compost! This is just the very beginning, but the pile is primarily composed of oak, elm, maple, sweet grass, and river birch. I’m sure some other leafs were mixed in from shrubs and holly trees, and certainly pine trees. I am only going to be adding some ground fruit to it! In this video I'll be making more compost bays and filling them. I build quick compost bays from palettes and store the green clippings for ericaceous compost and make another bay for normal compost.

I've added a temporary fence at the back of the allotment, to give a little privacy and deter casual visitors. I also start a temporary compost heap, in the bottom of the allotment from the clippings that tree surgeons and arborists drop off in the chippings bay.
