Stupid headcanon:

Bolin's a hoarder. Be it food, stuff, anything he wants he will just keep it. He's never had much, so now that he can actually afford to own things he doesn't want to throw them out. Every single thing feels precious because it would've been priceless when he'd been a child. He even has difficulty throwing out food after it goes bad (Wei usually does this, explaining 'you don't have to eat every single pea in the can. We can afford to not eat moldy bread'.)

Meanwhile, Mako has difficulty spending money on anything other than necessities. He's definetly the 'saving it for the darkest hour' type. Especially if he's only feeding himself, he'll only buy the cheapest foods or whatever's on sale. His apartment after Bolin moves out is extremely barebones. The krew know this and will usually bring decorations or trinkets. Basically trying to enrich his enclosure. Bolin will sometimes bring some homecooked quality food. Mako complains but secretly enjoys and treasures every gift.
