     solus hitches a breath, head buzzing but attention focused on the wooden chair before him. it’s a difficult process, one that takes every onze of his concentration--one hand firmly planted on the table before him, the other struggling to hold the chair steady. his torso is a roadmap of pain, pale skin blotched black and green with bandages firmly wrapped around his ribs and a portion of his neck.

     ‘ we aren’t supposed to do anything, ’ he grinds out like salt against gravel, ‘krile will make our injuries worse should we try.’ he growls out a groan, but it’s quick to switch to a whimpering whine as he eases himself down into the chair across from his counterpart, not bothering to hide his anguish, ‘ aaahahaha, pain-- ’ it’s a good minute or so before he’s able to relax, and he places his elbows on the surface of the table that separates them, letting his head rest between his hands, ‘ ...need food... i hope krile hurries with whatever it is she’s cookin’ up... ’ preferrably not archon loaf.

     he’s terribly tired of the fish bread.

Well... She wasn't trying to get herself killed but of course, it's Azem, she'll risk her life to do almost anything to protect others. It's just how she turned out to be. Buuut that wouldn't have stopped her dear friend from worrying so much over her safety.

Out of the three of them, it always seemed to be Emet who shows his concerns the most. And as Azem turned around to see the other figure, she let out a sigh and begins to give another one of her famous replies. "Oh come now Emet, if I was trying to get myself killed, I'm pretty sure that would have happened already."

A smile that clearly shows that she's knows what she's doing...

"You truly worry too much for me... A true friend indeed."

desperate narrator 

this story is a cycle, and you’re spinning around it like a hamster in a ball being tormented by a cat. you know how this story ends. after all, you’ve told it a thousand times. but you try to change it every time. you love the people in this story more than anything. so watching them fall victim to the narrative breaks you in a way you can’t begin to describe. but all you can do is tell the story── their story── with tears in your eyes. you’re prone to anxiety and feelings of helplessness. you have so much love in your heart, and for once you wish it would change something. it didn’t. it doesn’t. it won’t. but you refuse to stop telling the story. and you refuse to stop loving the people in it. in this way, no one is stronger than you. you just wish being strong hurt less.

     a sigh is slow to seep from rham’ir’s nostrils, lips pressed tight together as crimson eyes did not deign to raise from the vegetables he was chopping. to his right, a large pot of water and broth, already holding chopped popotoes and cauliflower, steam rising gently from within the chrome rims. knife glides easily in fluid motions through the thick width of the freshly peeled Coerthan carrot on his cutting board. when the root is chopped, he dumps the pile of slices in with the rest.

     ‘ then why are you still here? ’ the words put together make a cold combination, but rham’ir’s voice is soft as afternoon rain, taking another carrot and trimming the ends prior to peeling and chopping it, ‘ you are free to finally return to the star. to get a much deserved rest. but instead you stay. do this world and its peoples not disgust you? ’ the pieces of carrot are dropped into the pot with watery plops. he takes the ready wooden spoon and stirs the veggie laden broth, adding salt and pepper with his free hand as he did so.

     from the basket to his left, he grabs a freshly washed parsnip and begins preparing it for the broth as well, ‘ surely it isn’t my cooking that halts your departure. ’

If there was one thing that Lucien and Mortem shared, it was both power and the ability to get more of it. And in that particular field came others who wished for the same and boldly attempted to find an advantage in anything.

Unfortunately for them it didn't go their way. Who struck first, it was hard to say. There was simply a moments glance between the two - entirely in sync with the load of walking bullshit before them, before both their hands were reddened. A heavy thud and waning breaths signified a successful deed.

And yet afterwards their eyes met once more. Power often meant utilizing it in selfish ways - like ending the life of one who prattled on boldly without any actual means to back it up. Humans so desperately reached for some kind of advantage always, to feel useful and important. Powerful. To be an asset to something bigger and greater. Well, this one bleeding out may not be contributing in the way they had thought but... aha, they certainly aided the vampire nonetheless.

As delectable as it was to cut down the arrogant cowards of the world, that wasn't what was contributing to the gleam in her eyes. Her thumb pressed against her tongue, cleaning the blood off of one spot of her sinfully reddened hand. Thoughtful for a moment and voicing said thought the next in one simple inquiry.

"You noticed it too, didn't you?" Her hand fell away. The way their victim spoke, the phrasing used-- unknowingly giving them the answer they came seeking out. Narrowing down their leads into a more concise direction.

It was all she needed to say. The look in her eyes said just as much as his own - his hunt for power, for this witch tome, was getting all the closer to a positive result. This may have seemed like one small step out of many but it was a victorious one all the same. Could he see it? The way her inky gaze danced as their hunt drew him closer to obtaining what he wanted? She was excited for him, she was excited to see this through to the very end.
