imo ilma seems like hes kinda close to lecielans right? and manon especially?

and the part in stia where a nameless arks defender just sacrificed his life to protect manon?

basically it's that but its ilma protecting her from a new type of starless and getting kinda uh... well, he doesn't die but.

so in the beginning, everything seems okay. manon is safe, aina is relieved, player is chill, ilma seems safe too.

until it shows up very suddenly, right behind ilma. and he turns around and immediately got pulled right out of existence.

manon is probably emotionally wrecked for a while.

like there's someone actively suffering out there. she already guilts herself enough already, adding that someone is probably in excruciating pain on her behalf...

but that's another reason to stop the cycle right? find out wherever he went? hopefully save him? aina believes in her and player is there for support as well.

and the next time he appears. he's embedded in that one. 

so far the design is like... differently shaped than the type before? but it is still the same one. it's like he's hooked up into it in a sense. think of it like a really gross unsettling version of a mecha with its pilot right out front. on display. he's not physically protected.

like his arms are 'hooked up' to its arms too. legs also. something is covering his eyes and the gold of his hair dangles from under it, but hangs longer (for dramatic purposes.) and whatever else it has on it is behind him like maybe what it had before.

and now we have a cool boss fight.

the whole time we get voice lines - though more low, monotone and distorted (in some way) - because the lower half of his face is visible. he is apparently actually saying these things.

so if she wants to actually save someone this time... manon has to figure out on the spot what is happening, what to do, how to save him, etc.

maybe we have some dramatic part once it's down where the 3 of them are all just upfront because that does not sound like ilma. like at all. aina is the perfect candidate to point that out.

none of them know what this thing is and what it did to ilma exactly, but: "You're still in there! I know it!" (not exactly like afin to euclyta but close.)

tentative: maybe that's when manon realizes whatever is going on. and thinks of a way to try to get him out of that thing. except no one knows if it'll work.

i'll figure out how it does eventually. for now i will just say it involves player jumping into something and finding his internal consciousness (maybe it's like the scene with garoa in white pushing the player. except it's all dark and i'm sure they had a hard time finding him. but i digress.)

2: Maratus is a bit of a loner by nature, though he does find himself thrust into the spotlight and ends up talking more than he expects to. Aina and Manon are very dear to him, of course, but also Dozer is one of his favorite people aside from Crawford.

7: Because I'm mostly following the plot of NGS with my story, Maratus is basically THE hero. Guardian of Halpha and all that. He was worried at first, that people would think he was only moving up because he and Crawford were together, but after proving himself again and again it's a little easier.

I'm sorry but I have to gush over the new PSO2NGS Dark Falz Aegis fight. Specifically its music but I do have to give credit to the fight itself as well. Full thoughts under the cut. Warning: Very Long

It's super fun throughout the whole thing. The fight opens with the standard enemy gauntlet as you approach the boss itself, which is massive and wholly visible in the distance. As you finally close in, phase 1 begins. The music is a remix of the Dark Falz theme from your first battle with it in NGS. Aegis blends in with the darkened skies in a way that sells how powerful and insurmountable it is. You scramble around to kill more adds and dodge incoming lasers as you summon your own firepower, a portable cannon. The retaliation begins as you fire barrage after barrage at Aegis' barrier of guns.

It's fun as hell, but after enough damage is done, the Central Cannon fires a huge blast, weakening Aegis and beginning phase 2.

And holy shit-

The song opens with vocalist Anya Floris reprising the opening melody to Song of Mourning as the boss reveals its true form. Its attacks are easily called but devastating, prompting you to quickly learn its patterns for efficiency and to prevent a low rank. This somehow creates a battle that feels rewarding to master as you dodge perfectly while also maximizing damage done, which will be important as there are multiple DPS checks throughout the fight.

Anyways, the music.

I haven't found an official title for the song yet but I will add it here via edit when it is released. After the opening, the song Our Life, Our Scars properly begins with some anxious, doubtful lyrics.

Given the themes and context, it's not hard to see who this song is about;

It's Aina, your companion.

Despite what you may or may not think about NGS' story as a whole, Aina has been through a LOT of shit, with her father Garoa and hometown getting nuked by the very thing you are fighting and her being thrust into battle alongside you to try and carry Garoa's legacy despite her lack of experience. You've seen her grow and learn where her skills lie and how she can help and not feel like a burden to her team.

The intensity dies down a bit to allow you to focus on a chance for some big damage. Platforms raise up and you find debris to launch back at Aegis to chip off some more HP.

And then another voice joins the song.

What's your story? Where's your heartache? Hold out your hands to me In the dark times when you feel alone, let's find what we're here for What's the reason? Who's the target? Where is our tomorrow? (What's the reason? Who's the target? Where is our tomorrow?) I will find the answers (You can find the will to fight to follow the sun) The battle is ours, our life, our scars! There's a bit of speculation over what character this voice (EN: Aimee Blackschleger) is meant to represent but there's two main theories. It could be the Player Character, although personally, I'm pretty sure they are represented through a male vocalist (ex. PSO2's Dark to Light).

The other, more straightforward answer is that it's Manon, your other companion.

While Manon's story is still very much open, leaving a lot of her past and motives unknown, she certainly fits the bill to be supporting Aina's vocals here. She's very serious and "no-nonsense" when it comes to her job as an ARKS Defender, but she is still somewhat empathetic towards others. You finally see some of her emotional cracks show during the Stia campaign as being unable to save some of the fellow ARKS soldiers weighs on her mind heavily.

The song is more optimistic, but there's still an air of anxiety to it. Lots of questions, but they're slowly replaced by certainty and confidence. Nearing the end of this long encounter, you hear your allies sing with hope as you near the final DPS check.

I am here on a mission. "Purpose," I have gained it from you (There's a mission. There's a purpose. I'm at your side) Taken out of my darkest hour, and leading the way (In the dark times, when you feel afraid, the way will become clearer) There's an answer. Life is with us. The final DPS check begins as you have to stop Aegis from absorbing enough energy to wipe you out. Dashing from meteor to meteor, you smash each rock as the music swells to begin finally playing the main theme, A World Beyond The Sky. This is notable because this is the first time this has happened in PSO2NGS, despite it being a staple for Urgent Quest bosses in PSO2 with its main theme.

As Aegis' final attack of desperation backfires, it lies limp, fully allowing you to finish the job. And I'm just gonna let you watch the finale cutscene because... wow.

There is so much to go over here.

Crawford firing multiple volleys from the Central Cannon, making damn sure it does not escape this time

All the comrades you met through the regional campaigns giving you the power of a goddamn Spirit Bomb

GAROA???? pushing you to advance

Your character becoming a fucking METEOR as you focus all that Friendship Energy into a single punch that blows CLEAN THROUGH AEGIS

And then finally dropping you off in a field of flowers, a tradition I hope they keep going with future Final Bosses.

It gives you somewhere calm and beautiful to reflect on everything that happened (while also sorting through your presumably low-tier loot).

This fight proved to me that PSO2NGS is still worth playing despite the lackluster launch and basic story and I hope this at least convinces a couple people to give the game a proper shot.

also got some thoughts about mc!sabriel in chapter 6 onward now.

tldr she vaguely remembers matoi (not by name) as her partner and really believes she left matoi behind for halpha. styles her hair the same way as a reminder that partner existed once.

so this is her old outfit (rly wrong proportions though sry)

so she follows the same story in game. same class and role. (probably a different color sword than cyan primm sword in cutscenes though.)

but ch. 6 changed things up.

manon and aina got their roles and new looks, she thought about what taki told her about moving on in that drabble i did a while back.

it hurts to abandon trying to recall an important memory, but... that past partner would understand that she has a new role to fulfill.

this is what i put on facebook as an intro:

she's still under construction but i can say she is generally a weirdo. seems airheaded and bubbly at first. has fun with basically everything. probably talks to herself. wanders everywhere. weirdly tanky (i don't like playing glass cannons.) her voice is basically like nyanners but with more rambling and family-friendly dialogue (sorry lol)

and impractical backstory is basically she was cooped up in a room/house by parents forever growing up (not sure on circumstances yet) and had to entertain herself and learn about halpha through reading and seeing pictures. this required bypassing whatever family security systems were on her mag. required getting into records without being caught. she literally learned hacking lol.

(a friend offering ideas after that:) Hmmm, well, she hacked, stole a lot of data, got herself into trouble, so who rescues her? Eh... maybe... that one robot dude. He's white.

And she's like, introduced to the whole deal, and while they are PRETTY MAD, they are also impressed and offer her a job in tech reconnisance.

Scouting out machines of the past and trying to get them to work so she can take their delicious data. You know where there are a bunch of those? Kvaris.

wait that's actually really special isn't it. helping access all kinds of their grandpa's stuff. records no one would've noticed even existed because they were all so busy with the important info they'd miss all the little things about a person one can learn from the smallest details. he was only with them for a short time, he said in that note, so. i think all the random details would be welcome.

taki wouldn't know what their personal things mean necessarily (she didnt know him besides reading old studies etc) but... something like 'people back then used this font for personal observations instead of the usual note taking.' that's a good trivia thing to know while reading a bunch of records. (she is a fountain of seemingly useless details from all the things she read. it pays off.)

as for how that happened:

so when ilma was saved and lost central becomes a thing to investigate. the supercomputer is on. so there's a lot to go through. and we'll say there's some info that wasn't immediately accessible or locked or encrypted or something too.

so. maybe crawford says he'll send "someone from the tech recon team" (or w/e) because they can help get access to stuff! and sort out whats going on! etc!

(and with the quintuplets having their great experiences w/ aina+manon+player right before this, sending someone their age would be a good way to start overall collaboration too, right?)
