Hand held dynamometry, while a useful clinical tool, can be a frustrating and expensive process for clinicians. A basic loadcell is not hard to replicate with other tools. In this post I show a few tricks to perform muscle testing without the expensive handheld dynamometers. While this method has not been validated in the literature, I find the basic principles of tensile force production can be replicated with a few inexpensive tools.
