Etham Sings of All-Consuming Love on “Marathon Hearts”

If you don’t know British artist Etham, now is the time. The rising pop star began posting YouTube covers at 14, gaining recognition from Shawn Mendes who tweeted a cover of Etham saying, “...this guy definitely deserves more views.” And that’s still true to this day.

Etham’s new single, “Marathon Hearts,” is a pop ballad elevated by its smooth background productions and vocals. The song is a love story, but not the kind of Hollywood love story we are all used to. The hard kind. The kind where you lose yourself and want to give everything to that person. Etham starts the song by singing, “I don’t know who I am, out of touch once again.” Right off the bat he lets us know he is entangled in a love affair that is all consuming.

Coming off his highly successful 2019 EP Stripped, where he amassed over 88 million streams, “Marathon Hearts” seems to be a turning point in his career. His next chapter in new music is filled with cutting lyrics and a more upbeat sound than what we are used to from the rising pop star.

The chorus is filled with lyrics like, “I’ll run for you love, we’ll find a way/Out of the cold, out of the rain.” “Marathon Hearts” expresses he will do anything for this great love, even if it means consuming his very self.
