Ian did hear via rumors that there was a risk of gum-choking if he went to the sex ed class, so he’d elected not to chew any when he came in.  It turned out to be a good call, because he sort of felt like a completely different person as he walked out.

His notebook, which was actually his tattered lyric notebook that he’d lent pages for, now had a series of chaotic notes he’d scribbled in.  He’d have to remind himself to tear those pages out before he let Theo look at his book again--well, maybe he needed to see them, since his bandmate missed out on so much vocabulary.  His arm had a large drawn-on image of a blade complete with fire and sparkles, and comparing it with Aya’s very good arm-blade had been a good way to decompress a bit after a chaotic end to the class that left him actually…somewhat sick to his stomach with nerves.  He was glad Daniel wasn’t actually upset with him at the end of all that but.  Ouch, eesh.

He spotted Mari outside in the hall when he left, actively psyching himself up as he approached.  He had to remind himself that she’d shown interest in him during class…but what if he’d been reading those things wrong?  Agh, what if when she touched his hand it was only a coincidence that Ali had said that was a crush sign at the same time?  Ian was about to turn in the other direction, but stopped himself.  Enough was enough.  He knew he had a crush on her, his friends on the ship knew, she probably knew.  “Hey…what do you think about leaving to go grab some food?  There’s the milkshake stand nearby and I think it also sells french fries, or there’s this place I went to last time that sells something kind of like an empanada--which is like a fried dough pocket--except they fill it with peanut butter and marshmallow…or we could do something food related that are not those things…and maybe we could walk to the park…are you interested?”

the warm breeze coming off the ocean was such a nice change from the frigid mountains of colorado. true, it had been warming up in providence peak, but it was not nearly as pleasant as their current situation. after attempting to cheer yas up post-breakup with sage at the spring festival hadn’t worked as well as he wanted, he knew he had to take extreme measures. though they joked about a yacht trip, it did get his gears turning; while he did make good money, he didn't make enough to be a charter guest à la below deck. the next best thing? a beach vacation, obviously. he had surprised yasemin with two plane tickets and a reservation for a two bedroom suite at the villa del palmar resort in cancún. it was an extravagant gift, but saul loved to splurge on his friends, and hadn't yasemin deserved it?

the resort was absolutely beautiful and he intended to enjoy himself as much as possible. he could only enjoy himself, however, if yasemin was in better spirits. sitting by the pool, saul had been reading an article on his ipad when a server came by and asked him if he wanted a drink. after putting in an order for a mimosa, he turned to look at yas, “y’know, i’m pretty sure they think i’m your dad.” he laughed, though there was a hint of offense in his tone; he couldn’t help a bit of sensitivity over his age. “should we tell them this is your college graduation present? maybe we’ll get a free dessert. you could pass for a recent college grad.”

"If you're going to be on three cups of coffee, you can take Alba for a long ass walk because I love you but I don't need to be around three coffees Mari." Flicking the coffee machine on, Cali busied herself with sorting out their breakfast, aware of the conversation her sister would now broach over their waffles. "Yes, like I can get out of that. Plain or cinnamon?"

Brushing her hair back from her face, Cali kept her head down as she got the ingredients and the waffle maker out of the cupboard, trying to distract herself. The sisters didn't really disagree on much, but Cali's friendship with her oldest friend and her feelings for him was usually the only point of contention in their relationship. As she set about making the waffle mix, she simply sighed. "You might as well just come out with it now, you know? I know you have something to say and honestly we might as well start it now instead of making breakfast in an awkward silence.

Grabbing a strawberry from the punnet as she took them from the fridge, she tore the stem off before popping it into her mouth. "I know you won't like that I went there last night but he's my best friend, Mari and I needed him, that's all there is to it."

While Alba jumped off the couch to greet her mother, Mari remained prone with a pillow clutched beneath her as she grinned up at her older sister. "Well good morning to you, too." She countered, rolling over and off of the couch to stand and stretch her limbs. As she did, she eyed the other woman suspiciously, resting her hands on her hips as she raised an eyebrow. "Please." She scoffed, ready to continue pressing for answers when Cali gave them willingly.

Mari's mouth opened only to close again a moment later, no sound coming out as a look of confusion and a little disappointment ghosted across her features. "I already had coffee. Two cups, actually." She finally said, knowing that anything she said about Cali's night with Marco would come out more harsh than she'd want it to. So instead she allowed for the choppy conversation transition and shook her head. "But one more couldn't hurt... and no, I haven't eaten. Will you make waffles?" She asked, figuring if they were going to have a Marco conversation, they should at least have some carbs in their stomach. Maybe mimosas, too...

It was a strange situation, to go from living together to lives slowly growing apart. Even though Dirk and Barty still worked in the same building they barely ever saw each other at the Ministry and now it was very much a case of having to make an effort to see each other but one of their main bonding points at school had been an affinity for languages and having someone to practise with made it a lot easier to learn. “Anything you’ve been looking at in particular recently?” he asked as he sorted a few dictionaries and grammar books out on the table. “I think I need a new human language to focus on before I let the goblins persuade me to learn their Catalonian dialect,” he added, slipping into French with relative ease. “Interesting as that might be. Also, can I just make a rule here and now that we don’t talk about work or Buchanan or any of that.”

It was clearly weighing on him, as he chewed on his lip, stress in his eyes. While keeping his blood status a secret meant that some people would treat him without discrimination it also meant that people didn’t try to cushion bad news. There was no care to avoid casual gossip about muggleborns and muggles being targeted and it was exhausting to hear it day in, day out and there was something about Aila being involved that made things feel like they were creeping closer to home. And sometimes hiding was exhausting, too. “I, um--” He sighed and then slid into Thai, perhaps just because of who was on his mind but also partly because the less Western the language the less the chance of being overheard. “Bertram found out. And it was good to talk about it, but— I mean, I’m still better off people not knowing, aren’t I?” He knew he was. The war was worse than ever. It was just that hiding was so exhausting.

It had been Lily’s idea to storm the Lestrange fundraiser and cause chaos, and Kingsley had been hesitant at first, but he had to admit it was a pretty fantastic idea. Not to mention, it didn’t hurt his political campaign that Rodolphus Lestrange’s event had ended in such a way. Kingsley had opted not to go with the group infiltrating the Black Manor, choosing instead to stay behind and be ready at headquarters for when Lily returned with Ted Tonks in tow. It was better for someone to stay behind and prepare for the interrogation, and this way there was no chance of Kingsley being discovered and implicated in the attack, which would only hurt their ambitions for him to win in this race. 

He sat at the table with a mug of tea in hand, waiting for the others to return to headquarters. The first person to arrive was Mary MacDonald, who would station herself there in order to tend to any injuries that Order members might receive. As she entered headquarters, Kingsley stood up to greet her. “Mary, how did things go?”

On his third walk directly passed the door, Silas swings yet another u-turn at the last minute that lands himself right back at it and once again weighing up whether being there at all was any sort of good idea. 

( Probably not, most of his weren’t. ) 

Still, he stood outside the door for another short lapse of time, an unopened bottle of Hennessy in hand as his version of an olive branch -- even if it was his drink of choice, he didn’t actually know Mari’s -- staring down the wood like it might come to life and give him some direction. It didn’t, and he didn’t turn on his heels and leave, his choice made with the sound of knuckles on the doors surface making his presence known.

Once she got home, she set to work on getting the loft space ready. She put a sheet up against the wall so that the projector could play a film when they were ready. Lily had their favorite pizza being delivered, and wine in the fridge just waiting for them to drink. Stripping out of her work clothes, she tossed on one of the sweatshirts she kept from James’ side of the closet and put a clip in her hair to keep her hair out of her face. She arranged the pillows around the bed so that they made a nest of sorts, and pulled the softest blankets she had that they could use to curl up in. Filling water bottles up, she made sure they would be hydrated well into their drinking fest. 

Hearing a knock at the door, she bound down the stairs, and looked out the window. Opening it, she smiled widely, and pulled the other girl into a hug, “Mac, hi love,” she grinned. “Pizza is on the way, films are ready and loaded, and wine is in the fridge so I think we’re set for the perfect night.”

     In the midst of the gardens walked the lone blonde, taking a break from the never-ending crowds of the main event. She'd been having a lot of fun so far! Still, that many people in one place was a bit overwhelming, even for her. To ease her mind off the crowds, she strolled through the decorated pathways, admiring the calm sights that greeted her. Turning the corner a flash of purple would stop her in her tracks, the blonde hesitant to react.

     "Aaaah." She should've guessed of all people he'd be here, but she did her best to greet him with a smile, tilting her head in a childish manner. "Enjoying the ball? I am too~ I never knew dancing could be so much fun!" Next on her list would be to try a snowball fight, though it looked like weather took a long time to come around. "Having so many people around is scary, though... I guess Garry kind of feels the same way, huh?"

GRADUATION CEREMONIES & EXIT INTERVIEWS || JUNE 1978 || [THE ROAD TO GRADUATION #003 & #004]

The Gryffindors’ Quidditch Cup celebration lasted throughout the entire night, and the castle’s stock of Pepper-up Potions and other home-brewed hangover remedies were quickly depleted. A hearty breakfast was had by all, nervous and excited chattering reaching even the senior seventh years’ spots at their respective tables; the graduation ceremony was only a few hours away.

It was looking to be an absolutely gorgeous day for it - blue skies, only a few clouds, not too hot even for the graduates in their dark Hogwarts robes. Albus Dumbledore’s speech was guaranteed to be a tearjerker; “we are so proud of each and every one of you - yes, all of you, I see the shock on your face, Mister Potter - and know Hogwarts will always be your home to return to. These are dark times we are living in, and I sincerely hope our exiting seventh years go out to shine their lights on the world.”

Muggle cameras (allowed to work for only that special occasion) and magical ones alike made sure to capture just about every moment, each graduating seventh years’ walk across the stage and each tearful embrace with their friends and loved ones committed to film. 

Because there is still time left for students to say goodbye, enjoy the castle and grounds for another week, and make the most of their halcyon school days before moving on to the unknowable world beyond its walls, the school could not leave ALL their remaining time unstructured. The morning after the graduation ceremonies – after families have taken their leave but before the first trunks are packed – Headmaster Dumbledore reminded all of the outgoing seventh years of their exit interviews. 

Given the unprecedented change and turmoil of the past few years, the school has established this new tradition: a confidential way for each and every graduating student to speak one-on-one with the Headmaster about anything at all. The highs and lows of their schooling experience, their plans and hopes and fears for the future...when the plan was announced, the Headmaster was quite clear that ANYTHING was on the table. 

This was, of course, because he already had a subject in mind for a very select few. 

For months now, the Order of the Phoenix has been keeping tabs on some of Hogwarts best, brightest, and most endearingly troublesome. Using the cover of exit interviews for all, Dumbledore will be using his one on one time with these handpicked students to invite them into the Order’s secret creed. No further instructions will be given to them at this time except for one, all-important instruction: DO NOT TELL ANYONE ELSE ABOUT THE ORDER, OR YOUR INVITATION TO JOIN IT. 

Roommate against roommate, friend against friend – nobody should know who else received this secret and honorable invitation until the first Order meeting in July. 

Unless, of course, they REALLY trust the people around them enough to venture a guess and ask without getting caught…

* Note: Events #005 and #006 will each be their own separate events, with a two-week window for starters per our new policy. In terms of an OOC time window, that means the King’s Cross event will END on the evening of July 20th. 

WHAT’S HAPPENING?

WHO: All students - graduating or otherwise - are present for the ceremonies as well as all the parents and family members who came for the weekend, which means you can keep writing parent threads if you wish. Anyone can start a general graduation day thread, and ANY seventh year student can write their exit interview with Dumbledore if they wish to do so - we STRONGLY encourage the students who are getting an offer for the Order (whether they accept or reject that offer), to write that self-para as part of their participation in the event!

WHERE: The graduation ceremonies are taking place on the Great Lawn, though threads can take place anywhere outside or, if the muse strikes you, immediately before or after the ceremonies on Hogwarts grounds. 

WHEN: The exit interviews take place the morning after graduation in Dumbledore’s office and then in Hogwarts immediately after - this is basically two separate events taking place around the same time! The visitors for the long weekend are being ushered home after the graduation ceremonies, so the castle belongs to just the students and professors (and a couple of Dumbledore’s invited Order guests…) again at that point.

The masterlist of parent and sibling FCs can be found here. Feel free to, if you have not done so already, send your choices to the main–– it’s not too late to decide you want in on writing these characters!

All starters must be posted between now, Monday, June 8th and 11:59 P.M. EST on Monday, June 22nd.

You can write as your character, your character’s parent(s), or your character’s sibling(s), etc. and post starters as them - but the focus is on the graduating students and their final days at Hogwarts as pupils. If your character has a good reason to be at the castle for the graduation - and Hogwarts graduation ceremonies are always a big deal! - please have them there!

Order members have been invited to the castle as well, for their opinions on potential recruits. 

Players are strongly encouraged to both post starters and hop on the starters of others.
