Maria Robotonik bingo?

They sure do exist: I don't want to say Maria has no purpose other than to give Shadow and Gerald angst, because that's a disservice to her... but at the same time, the way she's been used in media that chooses to use her hasn't helped get rid of that accusation. And something tells me it's not going to die down anytime soon.

Not for me but I can see the appeal: It's not that I dislike kindhearted characters or find them boring. On the contrary, kind heroes and/or protagonists tend to be among my favourites, especially in an age where everyone swears up and down that every hero has to be a dipshit in order to be interesting or "realistic".

I just find other examples in this franchise, and others for that matter, more interesting due to the way they get to express themselves. Granted, I realise part of that is because Maria is a posthumous character, so I don't blame her too much for it, but what I'm saying is, I'll stick with Tails and Trip. :P

my take on Shadow the Hedgehog in a Star Wars au

Homeworld: Kamino Species: Mobian/Black Arms (clone) Affliations: Sith (formerly), GAR Weapons: Blaster, lightsaber Lightsaber color: Yellow, Red(formerly) Shadow is a Mobian/Black Arms clone made by Gerald Robotnik and Sith Darth Doom, he was created for the purpose of both finding a cure for Maria and to become a Sith Apprentice to Doom.  Currently, Shadow often works for the Grand Army of the Republic, and does occasional bounty hunting, traveling to worlds to sort out problems and fights that the Jedi often cannot. He works with Rouge and Omega and is often dealing with Coruscant's Underworld.  Shadow is a master in multiple forms of hand-to-hand and lightsaber combat, however he is most adept at Juyo from his training as a Sith apprentice. Recently, he has begun to rely on the Vaapad more. Though overall he prefers to use a blaster over his lightsaber, as it ‘challenges him’ more.  More backstory under cut 

Shadow is a force-sensitive Mobian/Black Arms clone created on the Planet Kamino by human Gerald Robotnik, partly using the DNA of the Sith Lord Darth Doom. Gerald agreed to use part of Doom’s genetics in exchange for ancient Sith texts that could possibly heal Maria of her incurable sickness. Mobian DNA was also used in order to ‘hypothetically’ strengthen Shadow’s force sensitivity. During his time on Kamino Shadow was trained in lightsaber, hand-to-hand, and blaster combat along with training under Doom in the Sith ways and utilizing the force as he was to become his apprentice. 

Whenever he wasn’t training, Shadow would often hang around Maria Robotnik as her Grandfather had gotten into cloning looking for a cure to her NIDs. The two of them bonded and Maria wished to travel and see other planets besides Kamino, such as the core world of Coruscant. 

 The Jedi caught wind of Project Shadow and quickly shut it down, capturing Gerald Robotnik and killing almost all involved parties. Darth Doom managed to escape and Shadow was spared due to the sacrifice of Maria, who made him promise to be good and to save others. Eventually, he is caught and taken back to Coruscant where the Jedi believed that they could reeducate him into a Jedi by having Dr. Robotonik erase his memories of Kamino. However, due to the loss of his granddaughter, Gerald instead uses the inhibitor chip in Shadow and rewrites and manipulates the memories of Maria’s wish. 

Gerald Robotnik executes order 66 in Shadow before he is killed, and Shadow takes down 5 Jedi Masters before he is subdued. As the Jedi are unable to properly kill him, they elect to cryogenically freeze him and place him in the deepest parts of coruscant under Jedi guard 24/7, and he remained there for 50 years. That is until mad genius Dr. Ivo Robotnik finds him and breaks him out.
