[Image Description: Marian Churchland's Dragon Age OC template filled out with Quin Brosca, a dwarf commoner warden. Quin is shown from the armpits up, leaning in towards the viewer, arms partially forward, while she looks to her right and smiles with her brow partially furrowed. She is wearing faded-looking leather armor with metallic shoulder guards. Her red hair is partially braided back and grows slightly darker in her bushy eyebrows, thin beard, and mustache. She has a casteless brand on her right cheek, in addition to geometric tattoos on her left cheek and above her left eyebrow. Her open smile shows a missing tooth. She has two small scars on her chin to the left of her mouth. In the background, four daggers fan out pointed toward her, and the words "Can I get you a ladder?" appear next to her. Below the drawing, several traits are listed with a line between them to mark where the character falls between the two. Between cautious and reckless, Quin is very reckless; between selfless and self-serving, she is more selfless; between emotion-driven and logic-driven, she is extremely emotion-driven; between forthright and dissembling, she is more dissembling; between friendly and unfriendly, she is slightly more friendly than not; between devout and questioning she is devout; and between trusting and suspicious she is suspicious. Below the traits is a list of her main party: Alistair, Dog, Wynne, and Leliana. Below that, there are a series of symbols that indicate which choices she made throughout the game. The first three indicate she is a dual-wielding rogue, a dwarf commoner, and romanced Alistair. The next row of five indicates she saved the circle, brokered peace between the werewolves and Dalish, destroyed the anvil and elected Bhelen, made Anora the sole leader of Ferelden and executed Loghain, and had Alistair do the dark ritual with Morrigan, thus ensuring they both lived. End of Image Description]
I'm replaying the Dragon Age series (to the dismay of my professors, I assume) which means redoing the art I made back in 2019. First up is my girl Quin, light of my life, bi butch icon who fr deserves the world. Nobody helped her family when they needed it most so she's made it her goal to help as many people as possible. Through extreme violence. I'll post my Hawke and Inquisitor next (I've actually already done my Inquisitor but I wanna post them in game release order), so be on the lookout for that :>
Here's a bonus flat version~

[Image Description: The same drawing as in the first image, though this time without the background or shading, making the colors easier to pick out. End Description.]
I'll put some relevant stuff in the replies, hopefully, that doesn't get the post nuked. I swear I've been here 10 years nearly and I've got no idea how this works.

NHL Expansion Draft 2021: Full list of players available for Seattle Kraken
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The NHL announced the protected lists for the 30 teams involved in the NHL Expansion Draft. (Vegas is exempt.) With the names of those protected come the guys who could be snatched up by the Seattle Kraken. There are a number of big names that have everyone trying to figure out just what general manager Ron Francis will do. Will he take Canadiens netminder, and future Hall of Famer, Carey Price and his hefty cap hit? Is Vladimir Tarasenko the sniper he needs or is his health a big question mark? There's also a number of guys who would fit in nicely but are free agents and the chances of signing them are not high (i.e. Alex Ovechkin).  EXPANSION DRAFT: Date, time, rules & more for Seattle Kraken team selectionRegardless of what Francis, coach Dave Hakstrol and Co. end up doing, there's a good chance the Kraken will be a playoff contender in just their first season. For now, let the intrigue and the guessing WWRFD (that's: what will Ron Francis do?) begin. Here's a look at every player they can pick.

How does Olivia feel about discovering more family in Drustvar? Does it upset her that she wasn't the first Lovecraft to return to the land?
Since Olivia wouldn’t know how to respond to this question, I am going to answer it OoC.
When Lorcan informed her that she was not only family, but she had cousins in Drustvar, she panicked. She buried her hope of having a family the day her aunt passed away. She believed that Marian was her last chance at family, and old age claimed her. For many years, Olivia didn’t even entertain the thought of family living on elsewhere. Over time, she sort of invented and adopted a new sort of family. Alice and Quin namely.
This was a fine solution for her.
Then, she met Lorcan and he shared her family’s history. It was like a dam broke and she was flooded with all these words and feelings she had to redefine. It took her weeks to go through the stages of angst and confusion she experienced. It was something she had to cope with chiefly on her own, as well, which caused her increased anxiety.
Now, she is thrilled to have family. She loves Lorcan to pieces. She is intrigued by the way the male descendants of the Lovecraft line have integrated into the Beithioch family and the traditions married between them. She is still learning how to rely on family and pitch in to help them without request, but she is happy.
Finding out Shea is also a descendant of the male line of Lovecrafts is certainly a shock, and it will take time for her to fully digest the information and unbox her feelings on the matter. Especially since he threatened her on first meeting. She will, however, attempt to help him cope with the shock as best she can because it is more than she received from someone she thought she loved.
Finally, as for the land, she isn’t upset at all. There is a small part of her which is possessive, and as she has legal ownership of the land, she will definitely view it as hers. However, her mother had to flee Drustvar a century ago to avoid being murdered, and knowing that Lovecrafts remained behind, it is not hard at all to believe that a Lovecraft found their way to the land before her.
Thanks for the ask, anon! @druidsanddrust and @lorcanbeithioch for mentions.

Again Rachel by Marion Keyes
I love Marian Keyes books. . I have read or listened to all of her books over the years and loved them all. It’s excellent when she is the narrator with her wonderful soft Irish accent. ‘Again Rachel’ is a sequel to ‘Rachel’s Holiday’ and is narrated by the author and also Graham Norton.
The first book, ‘Rachel’s Holiday’ was written in 1997. Rachel has such a fondness for recreational drugs that her family has forked out the cash for a spell in Cloisters – Dublin’s answer to the Betty Ford Clinic. She’s only agreed to her incarceration because she’s heard that rehab is wall-to-wall jacuzzis, gymnasiums and rock stars going tepid turkey – and it’s about time she had a holiday.
But what Rachel doesn’t count on are the toe-curling embarrassments heaped on her by family and group therapy, the dearth of sex, drugs and rock’n’roll – and missing Luke, her ex. What kind of a new start in life is this?
So, Book 2 - ‘Again Rachel’ was published in February 2022 which is twenty-five years after the iconic prequel which sold one-and-a-half-million-copies. This is about Rachel now, in her late 40’s.
Back in the long ago '90s, Rachel Walsh was a mess but the spell in rehab transformed everything. Life became very good, very quickly. These days, Rachel has love, family, a great job as an addiction counsellor; she even gardens. She is happily settled with her partner Quin. Her only bad habit is a fondness for expensive trainers. But with the sudden reappearance of Luke, her ex husband, her life wobbles and it brings up a lot of emotions that she needs to work through. She'd thought she was settled, fixed forever. Is she about to discover that no matter what our age everything can change?
I absolutely loved this book - reading about the Walshes is like catching up with old friends. As one reviewer wrote: Marian brings humour into the dark, the writing as always is touching and moving when it needs to be but hilarious in between. She has managed to take devastating topics like addiction and child loss, and yet written with such lightness, compassion and humour that you still think of this as a heartwarming novel.
I think that the fact that Marion has experienced some difficult and dark times in her own life has enabled her to write so powerfully. After a suicide attempt when the writer was 30, her parents checked her into a clinic in Ireland for alcoholism. Later, although happily married and successful she suffered from severe depression for 4 years. But she is resilient and bounced back and used those challenging experiences to enrich her creativity.
Having read Rachel’s Holiday I fell in love with the Walsh family, so went on to read the books written about each of the girls. They are all different, but each builds up a picture of the siblings and the parents. Even though serious issues are addressed, the family members are so quirky I frequently laugh out loud, and find the books up lifting.
‘Watermelon’ is about Claire - Claire has everything she ever wanted: a husband she adores, a great apartment, a good job. Then, on the day she gives birth to their first baby, James informs her that he's leaving her. Claire is left with a newborn daughter, a broken heart, and a postpartum body that she can hardly bear to look at. She decides to go home to Dublin. And there, sheltered by the love of a quirky family, she gets better. So much so, in fact, that when James slithers back into her life, he's in for a bit of a surprise
‘Angels’ is about Maggie - Maggie has always been the white sheep of the Walsh family. Unlike her comically dysfunctional sisters, Rachel and Claire, she married a decent man who adored her and found herself a solid career. Where Rachel was reckless and Claire dramatic, Maggie settled early for safety. Or so she believed until she discovers that her husband is having an affair and her boss is going to fire her. Suddenly, her perfectly organized life has become a perfect mess. Devastated, she decides the only thing to do is to run for the shelter of her best friend, Emily, who lives in Los Angeles. There, with the help of sunshine and long days at the beach, she will lick her wounds and decide where life will take her next. But from the moment she lands in the City of Angels, things are not quite what she expected. Overnight, she's mixing with movie stars, even pitching film scripts to studios. Most unexpectedly of all she finds that just because her marriage is over, it doesn't mean her life is. In the end neither the City of Angels nor Maggie Walsh will ever be the same again.
‘Anybody out there?’ Is about Anna. Anna Walsh is officially a wreck. Physically broken and emotionally shattered, she lies on her parents' Dublin sofa with only one thing on her mind: getting back to New York. New York means her best friends, The Most Fabulous Job In The World™ and above all, it means her husband, Aidan. But nothing in Anna's life is that simple anymore... Not only is her return to Manhattan complicated by her physical and emotional scars – but Aidan seems to have vanished. Is it time for Anna to move on? Is it even possible for her to move on? A motley group of misfits, an earth-shattering revelation, two births and one very weird wedding might help Anna find some answers – and change her life forever.
‘The mystery of Mercy Close’ is about Helen. Helen Walsh doesn’t believe in fear – it’s just a thing invented by men to get all the money and good jobs – and yet she’s sinking. Her work as a Private Investigator has dried up, her flat has been repossessed and now some old demons have resurfaced.
Not least in the form of her charming but dodgy ex-boyfriend Jay Parker, who shows up with a missing persons case. Money is tight – so tight Helen’s had to move back in with her elderly parents – and Jay is awash with cash. The missing person is Wayne Diffney, the ‘Wacky One’ from boyband Laddz. He’s vanished from his house in Mercy Close and it’s vital that he’s found – Laddz have a sell-out comeback gig in five days’ time. Things ended messily with Jay. And she’s never going back there. Besides she has a new boyfriend now, the very sexy detective Artie Devlin and it’s all going well, even though his ex-wife isn’t quite ‘ex’ enough and his teenage son hates her. But the reappearance of Jay is stirring up all kinds of stuff she thought she’d left behind.
Marian has written 15 novels not all of which are about the Walsh family. Her novels have tackled hefty issues such as addiction (Rachel’s Holiday), bereavement (Anybody Out There), domestic violence (This Charming Man) and depression (The Mystery of Mercy Close) Yet despite selling more than 35m copies over the years, she is too often dismissed as a popular writer of books with pink covers. Well, whatever the cover I have enjoyed every one of them and heartily recommend them as an interesting and uplifting read.

Sweet Dreams to Stardom
Sweet Dreams to Stardom
Sweet Dreams to Stardom
I have done similar posts about famous people appearing on young adult book covers (see here and here) but I thought it would be fun to do a post focusing on the Sweet Dreams series of romance books.
When researching the aforementioned posts, I noticed that there were a lot of familiar faces on Sweet Dreams covers though I couldn’t corroborate most of them. There are some…
