The Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and the Office for Health Equity and Inclusion will close, shifting student services to other offices, the DEI 2.0 Strategic plan will be discontinued and all units will evaluate their web presence to reflect the current status of DEI programs in order to comply with President Donald Trump’s executive orders.
[...]
An email from University President Santa Ono; McCauley; Marschall S. Runge, executive vice president for medical affairs; and Geoffrey S. Chatas, executive vice president and chief financial officer, cited three executive orders — Ending Illegal Discrimination and Restoring Merit-Based Opportunity, Ending Radical and Wasteful Government DEI Programs and Preferencing and Improving Education Outcomes by Empowering Parents, States and Communities — as reasons for the change.

According to an email sent Thursday by Rebekah Modrak, chair of the Senate Advisory Committee on University Affairs, there will be an emergency Zoom meeting Friday at 12 p.m. for all faculty, staff and students. “Concerns about research funding should not be used to justify sacrificing our values,” Modrak wrote. “There are legal recourses that the university and university associations can and must take.”
