What happened to Marwa is so so so so so so so fucked up like words cannot express how fucked up that was. However, I do not think it was essentially a product of her gender or race.

What I am trying to say is that if the last surviving wife had been a male one and/or a white one I think the result would have been the same. 

The vampires and Guillermo (however much I may love them) are cruel and selfish. The fate that Marwa ended up with was inevitable because it was a product of Nandor’s thoughtlessness and cruelty rather than any of her personal characteristics. The show has never really treated any of the background characters with care of nuance as a function of the characterisation of the main cast AKA the shitty treatment that so many of these characters have gotten is on purpose.  

ALL THAT BEING SAID HOWEVER, it does strike as particularly unfair to the audience, a large part of which are WOC. So, while I don't think these choices were necessarily sexist OR racist, I can see why many people see it as such (justifiably so) and a lot of others are angry (myself included) about how Marwa got treated.  

This really has a simple solution which is to bring her/clone Freddie back next season and explore the ramifications of this action. I believe the show is headed that way because this whole season has been about how shitty Nandor actually is so I think a redemption arc is in the works and Marwa HAS to be a part of that- she BETTER be a part of that.

So yest it was fucked up and yes we should be angry but also I think it was done on purpose and will have consequences when Guillermo leaves his job and Nandor is all alone contemplating his life and I think it will start in the last episode of this season since i is called memories and maybe Guillermo leaves and all Nandor is left with are memories and a large part of realising how shitty he is is to correct it (yes a man who put a woman in a shitty situation in the first place ‘saving’ her from the said shitty situation is icky on so many levels)

I feel so so bad for marwa, cause like... nandor went through all his wives, all THIRTY SEVEN, and she was the perfect one, but nandor just wished to change her, and she's changing against her will and there's nothing she can do about it because like.. she doesn't even know!! I don't know if she even knows the djinn, like knows of him obviously since he was at the wedding but... does she know what he does? I mean its terrifying what is happening to her and tragic and my god nandor does not treat her well as it's like... he's so obviously in love with guillermo and doesn't even treat her right and I mean yeah, through her we learn that he really does love guillermo but did she like guillermo before nandors wish??? and god i feel so bad for her

to begin with I need everyone to know that I strongly feel like Marwa is gonna leave Nandor at the aisle, runaway bride style. it’s What She Deserves, okay? and Nandor doesn’t feel anywhere NEAR close to realising he’s an oblivious idiot himself.

anyway ep 8 is titled Freddie which as we know is Guillermo’s boyfriends name. (that is literally the only leak I know and all I know about that leak bc I’ve been avoiding them as much as possible, so please tag any reblogs w more leaked info appropriately <3). I feel like Guillermo brings him around to introduce to everyone before the wedding, given he’s gonna be the best man so Freddie wouldn’t be able to sit w him through the ceremony.

Nandor, obviously, is gonna freak the FUCK out but not realise why. like he stares at Freddie with a vitriolic hatred every time they’re on screen together. he’s low key trying to kill Freddie but it’s NOT because he’s dating Guillermo, ok? It’s for other reasons 100% the fucking guy was acting ~shady~. Marwa is in the background of this episode, continually trying to get Nandor to focus back on the last minute wedding prep, but he’s too busy having a gay crisis protecting his dearest friend Guillermo from the evil, evil man he’s chosen to date.

marwa, through this, realises what every other sane person in the world knows, especially after the penis wish catastrophe. she tries to have a conversation with nandor about it, but gets completely brushed off. ep 9, the wedding, has her internally debating on whether or not she should go through with it. she does a talking head interview about it, and as she speaks she realises how shittily nandor has been treating her. He’d run out of wishes at some recent point, had a freak out about it (possibly during Freddie ep? tried making wishes where Guillermo and Freddie would break up), and she thinks back to random appearance changes & thought changes she’s had since coming back to life. and that is why she doesn’t show up to the wedding

I kinda feel like the writers for "Freddie" thought that everyone would be happy about what they did to Marwa. Like I think they thought Nandermo shippers were like BBC!Johnlock or Destiel shippers, who both demonstrated their hatred for any female character that got "in the way" of their ship so much so that writers would kill off female characters or otherwise dispose of them.

I love Guillermo and all but he and Marwa are not at all on the same level at all and idk why people are acting like they're the same, like at this point Guillermo has a choice. Like yeah that's not an excuse for nandor to treat him like shit and not that he deserves it but like he's been through this and he's not an innocent victim either like people forget he's an experienced serial killer. And when he decides he's had enough he can and will leave.

Marwa on the other hand has had nothing. Brought back from the dead after being abandoned once, just to be treated like a toy by Nandor and thrown away once he's bored. She has no one. Everyone she came back with is killed off one by one. Nandor can only be bothered to let her have her parents for a day just cause he'd be mildly annoyed.

Everyone in the house just kind of ignores her or treats her as nothing more then an extension of Nandor. She tries her best to get to know him, to love him and to be loved in a way Nandor was never capable of in the first place. As her identity is slowly stripped away from her. Nandor takes her intelligence and individuality and them blames her for being bored. Everyone is aware of this. They simply don't care. She's a plot device, not just to the viewers but to the characters themselves.

And when Guillermo calls out Nandor for doing something awful its about the fact that nandor has taken something from HIM (which he has every right to do) but there isn't a single word about he's taken from Marwa. Of course it doesn't matter. Her identity didn't matter in the first place.

There was no one to advocate for her, to stand up for her or support her. At the end of the day she had nothing.
