Apparently Digimon Ghost Game’s main writer is Masashi Sogo, one of Tomioka’s Pokéani AG/DP alumni. Not only that, Shinzo Fujita is also one of the primary writers.

Seeing this is so bizzare to me, especially considering another major AG/DP writer, Aya Matsui, was one of the writers for Yu-Gi-Oh! SEVENS (haven’t checked if she is around for GO RUSH!!).

I guess except Shoji Yonemura (current Pokéani main writer) all the good writers of Pokémon Animé AG/DP are doing better stuff now (Yonemura also technically did the Shaman King reboot, so I guess he also counts).

(And yes, I’m aware in Digimon series Directors traditionally have more influence than main writers, this post is me being surprised about Tomioka’s gang being scrambled all over the place.)

How Tomoe continued to surpass Kaoru in popularity until 2022, causing disappointment to the author

Throughout the history of Rurouni Kenshin, Tomoe has remained one of the most polarizing characters – either adored or vehemently disliked – but predominantly adored.

Now, let's delve into some context. Rurouni Kenshin features some female characters with less-than-stellar development. This isn't a critique exclusive to Rurouni Kenshin; it has been a prevailing trend in Shounen mangas overall. The female characters in Shounen manga often lack the realism associated with their male counterparts. To clarify this notion of "shortcoming," it's essential to note that the female characters in Rurouni Kenshin exhibit more complexity than those in many other Shounen mangas, particularly those from the 1990s. Watsuki acknowledges being influenced by Shoujo mangas, and this influence subtly reflects in his writing style.

If one examines all the female characters in Rurouni Kenshin, a noticeable contrast emerges when comparing them to Tomoe. Take, for instance, Kaoru and Misao. Their personalities are characterized by cheerfulness, brightness, a certain lack of intellectual prowess beyond martial arts, and profound love. Despite being portrayed as strong, independent women of the Meiji era, their strength might be influenced by their familial wealth.

Initially, the author doesn't consider Kaoru as a romantic partner. However, as the plot unfolds, a romantic dimension is gradually introduced, starting with Kaoru and eventually becoming mutual. As the narrative progresses, the author subtly transforms it into "the" romance in Rurouni Kenshin.

Throughout the story, Kaoru remains anxiously concerned about Kenshin, fearing his departure until the conclusion of the Kyoto arc when he finally decides to call the Kamiya Dojo his home. By this point, readers are acquainted with Kaoru as a main character and Kenshin's primary love interest. There is widespread support for their relationship, with Kaoru emerging as the key to Kenshin's happy ending – a home and a peaceful life. However, at this juncture, neither the readers nor, to some extent, the author is privy to Kenshin's past – the events that shaped his philosophy, altered his speech, actions, and demeanor.

And then his past is gradually unveiled. Tomoe is initially presented to us as an illusion perceived by Kenshin, prompting him to call out to her. It becomes apparent that she holds significant importance, perhaps too much for Kenshin to risk losing himself, especially when he encounters her brother after a decade. Subsequently, we delve into the Jinchuu arc, a revelation that likely surprises every reader who had previously cheered on Kenshin and Kaoru.

Kenshin's memories, particularly his narrative with Tomoe spanning just 14 chapters, are revealed in fragments. Despite the brevity, it unfolds as a love story of epic proportions in classical literature. We witness Kenshin's life, his experience of love, his transformation, and the profound happiness he experiences, only to ultimately lose everything.

Watsuki, however, has openly expressed his dissatisfaction, acknowledging that he feels he has tarnished Tomoe's character. Originally envisioned as an "extremely beautiful woman" with a cold demeanor, Watsuki's initial concept was a "cool beauty" akin to Ayanami Rei but with black eyes. As the Remembrance Arc concludes, Tomoe evolves into a character that remains enigmatic, not fully understood by the author, the protagonist, or the readers, with only fragments to piece together.

Now, these 14 chapters form the cherished cornerstone of the entire franchise - Rurouni Kenshin: Trust & Betrayal, one of the most acclaimed masterpieces in the anime world. Kazuhiro Furuhashi and Masashi Sogo skillfully translate these chapters into a heartbreakingly beautiful narrative on screen.

Remarkably, Tomoe garnered immense love from Japanese fans, securing the top spot in the official popularity ranking—surpassing even Kenshin and Saito, a feat nearly unheard of. Much of this acclaim can be attributed to Ayanami Rei's character design and Tomoe's embodiment of the Yamato Nadeshiko demeanor. This adoration endured for a substantial period, possibly until 2022. Despite Watsuki's original intentions, Tomoe consistently stood out as one of the most beloved characters, notably surpassing the main female lead.

The enchantment of the Remembrance arc persisted, extending to the live-action adaptations. Rurouni Kenshin: The Beginning, despite having the lowest box office collection, emerged as the most beloved live-action film in the Rurouni Kenshin franchise on Netflix, securing a position in the top 10 films in 69 countries and maintaining its presence in the Global top 10 for a remarkable 8 weeks. In contrast, Rurouni Kenshin: The Final, achieved a lower performance, spending 3 weeks in the top 10 films and attaining top 10 status in 17 countries.

In the live-action character popularity rankings, Arimura Kasumi's portrayal of Tomoe holds the impressive 4th position, reaffirming her status as the most beloved female character, once again outshining the female lead character.

DIGIMON GHOST GAME

Nuova serie animata dello storico franchise legato ai celebri mostri digitali, attualmente in lavorazione presso gli studi TOEI ANIMATION (Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai, World Trigger).

L’anime è diretto da Kimitoshi Chioka (Dragon Ball Super) in coppia con Masato Mitsuka (Digimon Adventure:). La sceneggiatura è in mano a Masashi Sogo (Fairy Tail), mentre le musiche sono composte da Kow Otani (Mobile Suit Gundam Wing).

La storia inizia con delle strane voci online di avvistamenti di “fantasmi olografici”. Hiro inizia a vedere i Digimon dopo aver attivato un Digivice che gli ha lasciato suo padre e insieme a Gammamon comincia a indagare sugli insoliti fenomeni che accadono intorno a loro. È così che durante la sua vita quotidiana, lentamente mette piede nel mondo dei Digimon.

Il design dei personaggi è stato concepito dal mangaka Tenya Yabuno (Inazuma Eleven, Pokémon Horizon: Sun & Moon) ed è stato adattato da Mariko Ito (Anonymous Noise). Per quanto riguarda i Digimon, invece, il design ad opera di Cho Shinozuka si basa su quello originale creato da Kenji Watanabe.

LET’S MAKE A MUG TOO (Stagione 2)

Seconda stagione della serie slice of life basata sull’omonimo manga promozionale dedicato alla città di Tajimi e all’arte della ceramica. L’anime viene accompagnato anche da una sezione live-action, durante la quale le doppiatrici delle protagoniste si cimentano in varie attività, visitando un po’ la città e provando i manicaretti locali.

La città di Tajimi, situata nella parte meridionale della prefettura di Gifu, in Giappone, è famosa per la terracotta Mino. La città è costellata di produttori di ceramiche storiche e di musei d'arte ceramica. Dispone di strutture dove è possibile cimentarsi nella lavorazione della ceramica e di molti ristoranti che servono cibo su piatti Minoware. La storia inizia quando una liceale si trasferisce in una via dello shopping a Tajimi. La aspettano molti incontri, amici, gente di città, arte della ceramica e tanto altro!

A dirigere l’adattamento presso gli studi NIPPON ANIMATION (Anna dai capelli rossi, Haikara-san ga Tooru Movie) è ancora Jun Kamiya (Kingdom). La sceneggiatura è curata di nuovo da Naruhisa Arakawa (Maoyuu Maou Yuusha), mentre è sempre Ayano Yoshioka a supervisionare il comparto animazioni e il character design.

WORLD TRIGGER (Stagione 3)

Terza stagione della serie sci-fi tratta dall’omonimo shonen manga di Daisuke Ashihara, edito in Italia da Star Comics.

Un giorno, nella città di Mikado si aprì un Portale verso un altro mondo. I Neighbor, invasori provenienti da un'altra dimensione, invasero l'area attorno al Portale, gettando la città nel panico. A sorpresa, un'organizzazione misteriosa fece la sua comparsa e scacciò i Neighbor. L'organizzazione, chiamata Border Defence Agency, svolge ricerche indipendenti sulla tecnologia Neighbor e combatte per difendere il nostro mondo. In poco tempo costruirono un'enorme base e misero a punto un sistema di difesa contro i Neighbor. Da quel giorno sono passati quattro anni.

Prodotta sempre da TOEI ANIMATION (Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai, World Trigger), la regia della serie è affidata a Morio Hatano (Dragon Ball Super, Saint Seiya Omega). Alla sceneggiatura e al character design tornano rispettivamente Hiroyuki Yoshino (Izetta: The Last Witch, Black Butler: Book of Circus) e Toshihisa Kaiya (Ascendance of a Bookworm). La colonna sonora è firmata sempre da Kenji Kawai (Mob Psycho 100, No Guns Life). .

THE ANCIENT MAGUS’ BRIDE - THE BOY FROM THE WEST AND THE KNIGHT  OF THE BLUE STORM 

Nuova trilogia di OVA basata sul manga fantasy di Kore Yamazaki, edito in Italia da Star Comics. Il primo episodio è stato allegato al volume numero 16 del fumetto, uscito in Giappone il 10 settembre, mentre gli altri usciranno il 10 marzo 2022 e il 10 settembre 2022.

Poco prima che Chise diventasse una studentessa a tempo pieno, durante il sonnellino di Cartaphilus... Chise ha ricevuto un invito all'accademia e lei, con l'aiuto di Elias e degli altri, ha iniziato a prepararsi. In un giorno tanto pieno, è arrivato uno spriggan a casa sua su uno strano cavallo a recare un messaggio secondo cui "qualcosa di male sarebbe accaduto durante la caccia selvaggia". Gabriel, un normale ragazzo appena trasferito da Londra, era annoiato. Da questa situazione in cui era lontano dai suoi amici e in una terra a lui estranea. Da tutto. Guardava fuori dalla finestra, come se volesse fuggire attraverso essa, quando ha scorto del fumo di tabacco. Quando è corso fuori per rincorrerlo è successo l'impossibile: il suo mondo ha iniziato a sovrapporsi a quello nascosto dei maghi.

Questo nuovo adattamento è considerato la prima parte di un nuovo progetto d’animazione, preso in carico dal neonato STUDIO KAFKA, appena fondato da Kouichi Naruse, ex membro di WIT STUDIO (After the Rain, L’Attacco dei Giganti, Vivy: Fluorite Eye’s Song), assieme agli animatori Takahiko Abiru (designer e direttore d’animazione in Vinland Saga) e Kazuaki Terasawa (direttore d’episodio in Overlord II e Anonymous Noise).

La regia dell’anime è affidata proprio a quest’ultimo, mentre alla sceneggiatura ritorna Aya Takaha (The Ancient Magus’ Bride, The Ancient Magus’ Bride: Those Awaiting a Star), con al fianco Yoko Yonaiyama (Uma Musume Pretty Derby). Il design dei personaggi è sempre curato da Hirotaka Katou (Hoozuki no Reitetsu, The Ancient Magus’ Bride) e anche le musiche sono firmate ancora una volta da Junichi Matsumoto (Plunderer, The Ancient Magus’ Bride).

Rurouni Kenshin: Trust & Betrayal, known in Japan as Rurouni Kenshin: Tsuioku-hen is a 1999 original video animation series directed by Kazuhiro Furuhashi, screenplay-written by Masashi Sogo, scored by Taku Iwasaki, and animated by Studio Deen. Based on the Rurouni Kenshin manga written and illustrated by Nobuhiro Watsuki, Trust & Betrayal chronicles the story of Himura Kenshin as the Hitokiri Battōsai during the final years of the Bakumatsu era while also revealing the origins of his cross-shaped scar and exploring his relationship with a woman named Yukishiro Tomoe.

Il 1°Agosto 1991 veniva distribuito il primo (di 4) OAV dedicati ad una delle eroine più controverse e parodistiche del mondo degli anime, KEKKO KAMEN. La protagonista, creata da Go Nagai, è una chiara parodia del tokusatsu mascherato Gekko Kamen, celebre in Giappone sin dagli anni '60. Alla regia si sono alternati Koji Morimoto, Nobuhiro Kondo e Shun'ichi Tokunaga. Masashi Sogo si è occupato della sceneggiatura, mentre la direzione artistica è stata curata da Mitsharu Miyamae e Osamu Honda. Il Character Design infine, è stato curato da Tomo Hirayama. The scriptwriters of Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters

Ah yes, the original series. Since the original series is a loose adaptation of Kazuki Takahashi’s manga, this list is mostly relevant for fillers.

*Junki Takegami: Our main writer for Episodes 1-121. We already discussed him extensively in the previous lists. We will talk about who replaced him later. His initial filler was Dungeon Dice Monsters episodes (which aren’t really filler, but not directly related to the main arcs.)

*Masashi Sogo: Only involved in Season 1, and one episode of Season 2. Co-writer of Legendary Heroes, specifically the Rebecca episodes.

*Shin Yoshida: Yep, he was involved right from Season 1, but his role wouldn’t get expanded on yet. His initial filler arc was Legendary Heroes episodes, like the actual ones besides the Rebecca episodes.

He is the main writer for Episodes 145-184 (Season 4/Doma arc) and 199-224 (Dawn of the Duel/Millennium World arc).

*Atsushi Maekawa: Becomes involved in the show after Season 2. He briefly becomes the main writer in Episodes 122-144 (the ending of Battle City).

*Tadashi Hayakawa: Only involved in Season 3. Co-written Episode 99 with Takegami. He would later return for 5D’s.

*Akemi Omode: Enters the show right after Noah’s arc ends. Briefly becomes the main writer for Episodes 185-198 (KaibaCorp Grand Championship). She is the sole female writer in original series.

*Yoshiki Sakurai: Co-wrote Episode 124 with Maekawa. Has no further involvement in the franchise, but apparently worked on the first two Rebuild of Evangelion movies.

*Akihiko Inari: Enters the show in Season 3. Worked on six episodes overall. He has no further presence in the franchise after this. He leaves the show after Season 4.

*Yasuyuki Suzuki: He comes into the show in the Doma arc/Season 4. He would be more relevant in 5D’s and GX later on. Co-wrote Episode 154 with Omode.

Digimon Ghost Game Uploads Wienners, Aiiro Apollo As Theme Song Performers

  The narrator for the upcoming Digimon Ghost Game TV anime was announced alongside the theme song artists for the Toei Animation-produced series the other day with "Galactic Punk Band" Wienners performing the opening theme song "FACTION" and Aiiro Apollo performing the ending theme song "Pedal."

  Voicing the Ghost Navigator will be Naoto Takenaka (Shiki in One Piece Strong World)

  The Ghost Navigator will be appearing at the start and the end of every episode of Digimon Ghost Game to "guide the viewer into the world" of the new Digimon series.

  Digimon Ghost Game comes to us from series directors Masatoshi Chioka and Masato Mitsuka, with Masashi Sogo writing the series composition for the new entry. As usual, the animation will be produced by Toei Animation in partnership with Fuji Television Network and Yomiuri Advertising Agency. The series is scheduled to start on Fuji TV on October 3 at 9 AM, the same timeslot that Digimon Adventure: currently occupies, and will be streaming on Crunchyroll soon after.

Final Fairy Tail TV Anime Season Details Revealed
