First Impressions

Part of him was grateful that she didn’t push for specifics.  More than a couple times in the past, being what he was scared people away.  The Suns had a reputation that painted him in the same light regardless of his individuality; being one was never justifiable by his situation.  Sam was proving too good a catch by Omega’s standards to risk scaring her off like that.  Even if she was friends with some people in Blood Pack.  Especially if she was friends with people in Blood Pack.  Normally he wasn’t one for secrets, but worrying her with the possibility that a gang war would have them fighting and killing each other while she’s away was pointless.

The suddenness of her sitting up startled him a little, but at least it drew his attention from the movie back to her.  Resting his hand on her thigh, he gently ran the side of his thumb over the scar, false eye focusing in as he examined it, a laugh drawn from him.  “Now there’s a mental image.  A Batarian buying skirts for a human woman.  Just when I thought I’d seen everything there was to see.”  His eyes flicked up to her face and he held out his arm to give her a clear view of the scar he had there.  It wasn’t anything special to look at.  Quite generic, actually.  But Spirits was there an entertaining story behind it.  “This one even I don’t know the real story behind.  I was out one night drinking with a friend after work; got so drunk I couldn’t remember anything that happened.  Just woke up with a hangover and this scar.  Friend claimed I was trying to seduce a Vorcha.  Pissed ‘em off and they shanked me.  Said they had to drag me out of the bar by the mandible.  'You don’t want to stick your dick in that, buddy.  I don’t want you to stick your dick in that,’ was what he’d told me if I remember the story correctly.  I don’t believe that that’s actually what happened, but so far it’s still the only explanation I have.”

For a moment she looked like she was going to laugh before she actually blushed and pressed her hands to her face. “It would be completely hypocritical if I laughed at that. I have a story almost exactly the same.” Clearing her throat and fanning her face slightly, she tried to pull her broken composure back together in order to maintain some sort of self-respect. “Only I didn’t have a buddy there to protect me from dumbass drunk me. And it wasn't a Vorcha.” Even knowing him as little as she did, she doubted he’d let her stop now without getting the full story, so she took a breath before staring at the vidscreen instead of his face. If she watched his expression, she’d probably break down laughing before she could get through. “Got wasted and got into a fight with a Krogan. I uh... I lost. But I put up enough of a fight I guess I impressed him. Bought me some more drinks and we flirted back and forth a bit.” She could feel her cheeks heating again. “Ended the night pretty predictably. I couldn’t get out of bed for three days, and I was still limping after that. Apparently alcohol doesn't affect my memory as much as it does my common sense. Stayed in touch, he got me some amazing schematics for the Krogan Tomkahs a few years back.”
