The thing is that, while I'm certain Veronica Roth did not intend this, it's clear that the society of Divergent (at least as textual in the film specifically) lacks a Gender Binary of man and woman and instead has a 5-gender system wherein the genders are Dauntless, Erudite, Abnegation, Amity, and Candor. Which is hilarious.

Like. Everything about how their society is portrayed illustrates a deeply gender-segregated society which is organized around an arbitrary set of social groups ("factions"), where labor is (very significantly) allocated according to these factions, where particular behaviors and interpersonal styles are heavily associated with these factions, and where internal compliance with these norms is strictly regulated by other members of the faction. People who do not "fit into the faction system" ("divergents") are either forcibly made into subalterns and expunged from "legitimate" society ("factionless") or otherwise must obscure this fact for risk of the aforementioned social retribution / policing. New recruits to a faction are aggreassively socialized to that factions norms via a regimented system of rituals and violences, often with sexual/homosocial undertones, and are enlisted to participate in this same socializing violence against each other. Those who perform these social violences successfully are materially rewarded with prestige and positions of control. Further, people are a) considered implicit members of their given birth-faction until a coming-of-age ritual, which marks them as having become full (sexual) agents, at which point b) they are expected to typically remain within their birth faction. Unlike many real, extant gender systems, however, there is an in-built nominally socially-sanctioned mechanism for movement between factions, but this movement is always followed with particularly rigorous re-socialization, and acceptance into the faction is particularly conditional on behavioral compliance, particularly when those factions are externally threatened or need to consolidate their bases.

Furthermore, you see nearly no actual in-text segregation among "male" and "female" lines, in ways that are typically considered hallmarks of gender in our world. There seems to be little concern about sexual or semi-sexual contact between people of the "same gender" (which we must then read here as nonexistent), sleeping/living quarters are never segregated along these lines. Neither are sports or combat training (in Dauntless in particular), nor is labor in really any form allocated by the genders "man" and "woman."

I'm certain all of this is unintentional, but if anything I think this illustration of power and social compliance is a more articulate expression of how gender-class (within a materialist feminist frame) actually functions than most "queer" or "genderfucky" media.

I feel like most of the negative discourse regarding BuckTommy and Tommy Kinard specifically would be eliminated if fans did the following:

If they are women, to stop inserting their personal identity into mlm relationships and stop making mlm relationships about them. I’m bisexual, but I’m also a woman. I cannot simply understand to a full extent anything about mlm relationships. If you are a queer man in the fandom who loves BuckTommy, feel free to reply so I can reblog your stuff!

Actually watching the show. I know things can be interpreted slightly differently, but this isn’t a philosophy course in college and this isn’t an A24 film where you have to figure out every metaphorical meaning behind something. Most things can be answered/explained by simply watching the show. A character smiling that much in a relationship means they’re happy, and it isn’t that deep. This is network TV.

Stop projecting in general. This show has had characters who are in their late 20s and beyond. Any materialistic thing that seems to matter that much to the younger viewers, simply would not matter that much to someone as old as Evan Buckley.

This brings me to my next point of understanding how old Evan Buckley is. He is nearing his mid 30s, he is not a teenager anymore and he also isn’t season 1 Buck. He has evolved and matured and just simply cares about different things, or has changed his mindset of how to care for things that he cared about before in a more suitable way for his age. The infantilizing is just gross in general.

Understanding that you can ship a pair on tv without requiring it to become canon. It can simply just be a thing you make edits, fanfic, or write your HCs about.

Understanding these are actors portraying FICTIONAL characters that are telling a different type of representation of mlm relationships. Just because it isn’t being told like Heartstopper or Red White and Royal blue, doesn’t make it any less valid. We are seeing a type of representation that feels rare, a masc/masc relationship and it’s so important, especially in a world where real firefighters or anyone in a macho career doesn’t feel safe to be themselves in.

The Moon in astrology is associated with emotions and emotional responses. It can show how your emotions come off. For this reason its closely associated with acting of course there are other planets that could come into play when discussing your acting style but I find the Moon to be most common in showing what characters and actor typically plays

Examples:

These are some western and sidereal examples

• Adam Sandler — Known for playing a lot of funny characters in comedy films. His Moon is in the sign Gemini in his Sidereal chart which is one of the signs most closely associated with comedy

• Tom Holland — Most known for playing the superhero Spiderman has a Scorpio Moon in his sidereal chart. Scorpio and Aries placements are commonly found in the charts of people who play superhero’s most likely because Mars and Pluto can be associated with crime/fighting. Also Robert Downey Jr, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Benedict Cumberpatch, etc have either their western or sidereal Moon in the signs Aries/Scorpio

Maddy is also big on fashion which Venus also is associated with. In Sidereal she’s a Virgo Moon which also aligns with the character as Maddy is very sassy

• Leonardo Dicaprio & Kate Winslet — Their most famous role was in the movie “Titanic” which is a romance film. They both have a Libra Moon, once again, ruled by Venus the planet of love

• Sarah Jessica Parker — Most known for her role in the show “Sex and the city”. Her Moon is in the 8th house which is the house of sex meaning she does well in more sexual roles

• Reese Witherspoon — One of her biggest roles was in Legally Blonde where she plays a regular college girl who aspires and is working to be a lawyer. She’s a Capricorn Moon in western which is the sign associated with your career/work and in sidereal she’s a Sagittarius Moon which is the sign associated with law (other than Libra) as it’s ruled by Jupiter the planet that represents justice

I recommend checking both your western and sidereal moon as I’ve seen both have accuracy

(1h/Aries Moon) They do best in films involving action, crime, or films involving war. They could do well playing characters that are a superhero, sexual character, athletic character, aggressive character, fighter, villain, and you could also do well in adventure films too.

(2h/Taurus Moon) They do best in romance or musical films. They could do well playing a character that is someone’s love interest, a chef/baker/cook, stubborn, determined, or that’s wealthy and materialistic.

(3h/Gemini Moon) They do best in comedy films. They could do well playing funny characters, a fraternal twin, a character that’s gossipy such as regina george, a character that’s popular on the internet, a character that’s crazy, a character in school, and characters that are neighbors to the main character.

(4h/Cancer Moon) They do best in family films or emotional films. They could do well playing soft, sensitive, caring, be a child star, a chef, be a mother, and roles literally involving lunar topics in some way such as Robert Pattinson who plays in Twilight. Twilight itself involves the Moon/Sun.

(5h/Leo Moon) They do best in thrillers, dramas, or romance films. They do very well as main characters or as characters that are sassy, as child-like characters such as Tom Hanks voicing in Toy Story, a famous character, sometimes as superheroes, and possibly flirtatious characters. They also tend to play gay characters sometimes like Cameron Monaghan and Noel Fisher for example.
