Alycia Baumgardner vs. Elhem Mekhaled Fight Highlights
Alycia Baumgardner (14-1) is the undisputed super featherweight champion, meaning she's won all four of the major titles at 130lbs. And she ran through Terri Harper, Edith Matthysse, Mikaela Mayer, and Elhem Mekhaled to do it, which is pretty damn impressive.
Baumgardner is set to defend her title this Saturday (July 15) against the only woman to ever beat her as a pro - Christina Linardatou (14-2).

Published: July 28, 2022
On July 30 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, former two-division world champion Danny Garcia (36-3, 21 KO’s) will be making his anticipated 154 lbs debut against former title challenger Jose Benavidez Jr (27-1-1, 18 KO’s).
Garcia has built a solid fan base at the Brooklyn hot spot over the years, having headlined there on eight occasions, including its first boxing event in October 2012.
A Mexico vs. Puerto Rico rivalry boasts a rich history in boxing, and Garcia vs. Benavidez will add a further page to this history, with both men proud and striving to defend their heritage.
After an extensive amateur career which culminated in the Under-19 National Title in 2005 and the US Championships Title at 132 lbs in 2006, Garcia made his professional debut in November 2007, stopping Mike Denby in the first round.
In March 2012, Garcia defeated Erik Morales for a vacant title to become WBC super lightweight champion. In his very next fight in July 2012, Garcia stopped Amir Khan in the fourth round to unify and win the WBA (Super) and Ring Magazine 140-pound titles.
In January 2016, Garcia became a two-weight division champion, beating Robert Guerrero via unanimous decision for the vacant WBC welterweight title. Garcia has had seven fights since then, losing three to Keith Thurman, Shawn Porter, and Errol Spence Jr, his most recent opponent in December 2020. Garcia has been out of the ring for 19 months, the longest break of his career.
Benavidez lacks no amateur pedigree either, as an 11-time National Champion. He made his professional debut in January 2010, stopping Steven Cox in the first round. Benavidez’s first nine fights all ended in TKO wins.
Benavidez won the NABF super lightweight title against Henry Auraad in July 2014 with a first-round TKO stoppage, then gained the WBA Interim super lightweight title in his very next fight in December 2014 against Mauricio Herrera via unanimous decision.
Next came perhaps the most defining and pivotal day of Benavidez’s life and career, far away from a boxing ring, on August 23, 2016. While taking his dog for a walk near his home in Phoenix, Benavidez was shot in the leg. Benavidez managed to resume his career, having four fights since this incident thus far, including a showdown against pound-for-pound star Terence Crawford for the WBO welterweight title in October 2018. Benavidez’s skill, size, and length troubled Crawford at times during a spirited effort before ‘Bud’ dropped and stopped Benavidez in the final minute of the 12th round. This was Benavidez’s first professional defeat. Benavidez did not fight again for over three years, with his most recent outing being a draw against Francisco Torres in November 2021 in a 10-round middleweight contest.
Garcia’s granite chin has been one of his greatest attributes during his ascent towards the top of the super lightweight and welterweight divisions. Garcia has taken flush shots from hard-hitters such as Lucas Matthysse, Thurman, and Spence and heard the final bell.
When Garcia was operating at 140 lbs, his power was evident. However, his power has arguably been less effective in the upper echelons as Garcia has moved up in weight. He has failed to stop any of his elite opponents at 147 lbs, and whether that will be an issue at 154 lbs remains to be seen.
Benavidez may have to muster up something special to stop Garcia, with the durable Brooklynite’s chin having never failed him thus far in the pro ranks. As far as Garcia’s power, he is facing a man who started at super lightweight, just like himself. Garcia is not facing a natural 154-pounder.
However, with aspirations of challenging for a title at 154 lbs, the potential for Garcia’s inability to carry his power up through the weights may be an issue in the long run if a shot for glory arrives at his new weight. As a man who started his professional career at 140 lbs, Garcia may simply be too small to beat a natural 154-pounder. As a reference point, undisputed 154 lbs champion Jermell Charlo has a four-inch height advantage, and nearly 5 inches reach advantage on Garcia.
Garcia, however, does not believe size will be an issue. Speaking to Ring Magazine, Garcia said: “This is a great relief on my body. I hear the talk that I may not be big enough at 154, but I fought big guys at 147. I’ve been on a world-class level for 20 years. I fought the best in the world.”
Garcia carried on to state: “I’m in a great place mentally. I can’t wait to fight. I also know where I am at this stage of my career. I realize the end is near. My daughter Philly is seven and I have another daughter on the way. Right now, as I’m talking, I have three fights in my head. I feel like I can make history winning another title at 154 pounds.”
Benavidez is on a quest for redemption to get himself back on the road he was heading toward not too long ago. He’s looking to do that by facing an experienced operator who has had a very impressive career, only suffering three losses to world-class fighters. Men who have been beaten by Garcia include Morales, Khan, Zab Judah, Matthysse, Lamont Peterson, and Paulie Malignaggi. However, as always, Benavidez is brimming in confidence. “I’m not worried about anything he (Garcia) does. I know what I’m capable of,” he said at the media workout, “I know the power I have. I know how I’ve trained.”
This fight may simply come down to who has more left in the tank. Garcia is now a very wealthy man who has achieved a lot in the sport. He may no longer have the motivation and hunger that took him to the summit of the 140 lbs division. Benavidez’s most impressive performance was a gutsy loss to Crawford, and perhaps that loss, along with getting shot in the leg, have derailed a career which will be another example of the all-too-familiar tale in boxing of failed potentials.
Both men have promised fireworks. Reputations are on the line. Rival heritages are colliding. It has the ingredients for one that can’t be missed.

The Canelo vs Chavez Jr undercard is INTENSE! I mean, I was very excited about the Diaz Jr vs Avila (With Diaz taking the W! YES!), but that Matthysse vs Taylor fight was great! and that knockout holy shit. This Reyes vs  Lemieux is very competitive so far, the “freakish power” according to Ray Johnson is very visible, jesus

Published: July 09, 2022
LONDON – Two heated rivalries will come to a head Saturday, Sept. 10 in a historic championship doubleheader at the O2 Arena in London. The previously announced main event will see two-time Olympic gold medalist Claressa Shields, the WBC/WBA/IBF/Ring Magazine middleweight champion, aim to once again become undisputed at 160 pounds by facing longtime rival and WBO titleholder Savannah Marshall. Shields and Marshall faced off as amateurs, with Marshall edging Shields by decision at the 2012 AIBA Women’s World Championships in Qinhuangdao, China. Shields went 77-1 as an amateur and is the only female boxer to win undisputed titles in two weight classes. In the co-feature, Mikaela Mayer will look to get one step closer to becoming the first undisputed champ in her division by putting her WBO/IBF/Ring Magazine junior lightweight titles on the line against WBC champion Alycia Baumgardner. A total of seven world titles and two Ring Magazine belts will be on the line. Promoted by Salita Promotions and Boxxer, in association with Top Rank, Shields-Marshall, Mayer-Baumgardner, and undercard bouts will stream live and exclusively in the U.S. on ESPN+ Mayer (17-0, 5 KOs) is a Los Angeles native who achieved international recognition when she represented the U.S. at the 2016 Rio Olympics. The following year, she signed with Top Rank and unleashed an impressive run of victories, including a one-sided decision over Ewa Brodnicka in October 2020 to capture the WBO 130-pound title. In 2021, she unified the WBO and IBF titles in an action-packed slugfest against Maiva Hamadouche, which also earned her the Ring Magazine belt. In her last outing, she retained her titles with a decisive win over former champion Jennifer Han. Mayer is confident that she will take a positive step forward toward becoming undisputed champion. Mayer said, “I’m here to make the biggest fights possible, so I salute my team for making her an offer she couldn’t refuse. Huge thanks to Boxxer, Top Rank, Salita Promotions, ESPN and Sky Sports for working together to co-promote such an iconic event! I am ecstatic to finally be making my UK debut and to share the stage once again with my Olympic sis, Claressa Shields. I LOVE this era of women's boxing because we are re-writing the narrative and working to give our supporters the fights they DESERVE. To date, I’ve accomplished all I said I was going to do, and this next fight will be no different. I have all the tools and experience I need. There are levels to this sport, and she’s nowhere near mine. You can bet on it.” Baumgardner (12-1, 7 KOs) is a five-year pro who burst onto the scene by traveling to Sheffield, England, to challenge WBC champion Terri Harper. Though fighting on enemy turf in front of thousands of British fans, the native of Fremont, Ohio landed a perfectly timed counter right hand that knocked Harper out on her feet. Baumgardner then made the first defense of her crown in April with a shutout decision over former unified world champion Edith Soledad Matthysse. After months of exchanges on social media, Baumgardner did not mince her words about Mayer. Baumgardner said, “When we are both gray and old, Mayer is still going to be having Alycia Baumgardner flashbacks. When she is lying horizontally in the ring, Mayer will think back to the first time my name left her mouth and she’s going to wish it hadn’t. I guess we’re going to find out if Regina George has a chin. Not only will Mayer feel my power, but her descendants are also going to feel what I do to her. Not only will I take Mayer’s belts, but I’ll take everything from her. She’ll be lucky if I let her keep her name. If I’m not haunting her dreams before the fight, I will be after it. If you come at the queen, you best not miss. On the bright side for Mayer, a loss to me will be the best result on her resumé."
