Listen OK. Listen. I understand what the point of aa4 is. I get it. I understand why everyone's being a manipulative asshole for plot reasons. I really really really dont enjoy it tho. It's 100% on me, because i, personally, hates when people are dishonest with me over thing I hold important, even if they do it with good intentions. It's simply not something i would forgive, ever.
So that's why im a bit cross with sholmes in dgs. However, the story never really puts the focus on how utterly fucked up it was that he just abandoned kazuma alone in a foreign country after a head injury and never told anyone about it, so i can make an effort to suspend my disbelief and accept it.
Phoenix tho. The fact that he's sunk to kristoph's level in his despair to catch him is very much put in focus by the story. It *is* fucked up that he had apollo present fake evidence in court. Apollo did get used by his idol that's something the game acknowledge. And he never fucking even apologize and im mad >:(
It's fine it's not even really a writong flaw at all. It just makes it so that i never enjoy phoenix in this game. And i dont enjoy trucy by proxy. So i just dont really have a good time
And that's why one of the best written game in the serie is my least favorite so far

Thrawn and being ooc
Since name-dropping Heir To The Empire I fear that Thrawns portrayal will be very flat and ooc compared to almost all of Zahns books.
And it's definitely not a question about Legends/Canon characterization because the change to Thrawn as a very morally gray character started in the Legends:
In the original Thrawn-triology HTTE introduced Thrawn as rutheless war lord, but two books later (The Last Command) Thrawn shifts slighty towards well-meaning commander who inspires loyalty (a trait that became even more prominent in Thrawn (novel)) and started to teach other. The trend continued in the Hand Of Thrawn-Duology where Thrawns bigger motivations were revealed: He wanted to unite the Galaxy against a bigger threat from the unknown regions which is quiet a contrast to HTTE where he seemingly just wanted to reunite the Empire for its own sake.
Completed is this portrayal in Outbound Flight (basically the blueprint for Thrawn: Ascendancy) and it just got continued in the new canons books.
And here's the point why I think Disney made a pretty cheap move when they used just the HTTE characterization for SWR - because they could have known that the character had history far beyond the first triology. But I guess they just saw "oh, these books were bestsellers; just use them". Okay, valid point, they are the owner of the stuff after all.
But then why didn't they take precautions to keep the characterization concise? I mean they were in the position where they could have told Zahn he should write Thrawn more as a villain - for example the novel Tarkin had the same named a*hole as main character and he got not an ounce more sympathetic. Instead they greenlit another triology and now seemingly they double back down.
And that's just sloppy and makes me more than a bit salty - they lure me in with a complex character but decide to ignore everything as soon as they start a new series (also it's not only Thrawn - the Ahsoka novel and the Kanan-comics suffered from similiar problems, although in a lesser extent).

okay i finally finished the star wars sequel trilogy and here’s my opinion and thoughts on each of the movies that no one asked for but i want to share anyway 🤓🤓 spoilers below!
The Force Awakens:
Don’t have a strong opinion on this movie TBH, I think it’s the weakest of the three but it’s a good introduction movie.
Wasn’t expecting Han’s death…RIP TO A REAL ONE😭
Still don’t understand how Rey was able to beat a trained Kylo Ren in battle…she was too OP for the first movie.
Kylo’s back story isn’t convincing enough and I think he’s kind of lame, I don’t think they did him justice.
Transitioning between scenes is so reminiscent of the OG triology and I love it.
The Last Jedi:
THE BEST OUT OF THE THREE!! I really enjoyed this movie; especially all the different sub plots. I loved that we got to see more characters.
I AM A FINNPOE ENTHUSIAST
I AM NOT A REYLO ENTHUSIAST
I liked Rose’s character and her dynamic with Finn!! Kelly Marie Tran did not deserve all the hate she got ): Rose was awesome ):
The scene in Snoke’s throne, Kylo reminded me so much of Anakin in ROTS, from the hair to the expression on his face, I literally think he channeled Anakin’s energy into his performance (think of Anakin when he first pledged loyalty to Palpatine)
Kinda confused on the direction they went in with Luke. You mean to tell me Luke refused to kill Darth Vader because he believed there was light still in him, but couldn’t extend the same hope to Kylo? Idk, Luke’s main characteristic is that he’s the hopeful, optimistic hero and I feel like they completely scrapped that. ESPECIALLY BECAUSE THEY DONT EVEN DIRECTLY TELL YOU WHY KYLO HAD SO MUCH DARKNESS IN HIM, i blame the story tellers
Luke saying no one’s ever really gone…yeah I cried 😭
I knew Luke died from like years ago, but watching his force spirit in front of the two suns just reminded me of that iconic scene in ANH where he’s standing in front of the two Tatooine suns. Literally one of my favorite Star Wars scenes EVER 🥹
The Rise of Skywalker
I think my biggest gripe with this trilogy is that it completely ruins Anakin/Vader being the Chosen One. Like….George Lucas confirms he’s the Chose One and then we see in ROTJ that he helps brings balance to the force, thus completing the prophecy. BUT THEN PALPATINE DIDNT DIE AND HES BACK AND THAT MAKES THE PROPHECY COMPLETELY MOOT AND THATS AN INSULT TO MY POOKIE.
Didn’t expect Leia to die…I know Carrie died (RIP TO A REAL ONE) but I honestly didn’t know she was going to die in the movie and I kept on wondering how they were going to pull it off. And I’m just realizing they killed each of the OG trio 😭
We needed more Rose.
They built up Finn to be a love interest for Rey in the first movie then completely scrapped that idea for Reylo 😭
Not sure how I feel about Reylo. I was really hoping they wouldn’t kiss then BOOM they kissed. Idk I just don’t think the chemistry was there.
I still think they did Kylo’s character building dirty, but I did enjoy his redemption arc. RIP
The voices of all the Jedi guiding Rey, I CRIED OKAYYYYYY
FINNPOE SUPREMACY
I love FinnPoe, but also Finn and Poe separately. Oscar and John were amazing
Seeing all the Death Stars crash, the Ewoks looking up and cheering, the celebration scene 😭😭😭😭 I cried so much IDK it just reminded me so much of the the end of ROTJ and honestly I’m a huge sucker for a good winning final scene.
Overall, I enjoyed the trilogy more than I thought I would and while I do think it’s not PERFECT and I do think there’s a lot to fix, I do think a lot of SW fans are just salty and hated the idea of a more diverse, female led franchise. I would definitely watch again (:
Now I need to know what happens after lol

guess who is here to shit on babylon again. haha . yes that’s right its me. surprise. there is so much wrong with this anime, holy mother of god. but i specifically wanna talk about the spontaneous philosophical discussion abt morality that takes place in penultimate ep & the problems i had with it:
first of all, this is a political summit. why are we discussing philosophy in the first place.
idk dir. chose to animate the leaders overreacting . assisted suicide laws have existed for a long time and debating them wouldn’t be entirely out of the contrary. also international laws / rulings aren’t 100% binding, national courts are going to have to go through a long process of actualising their plans etc etc so they have no reason to be hasty abt this at all, they still have to face a fuckton of national barriers.
esp lowe who is just on the side making outlandish claims like: england is going to break off ties with all these superpowers and go to war with them if they legalise suicide!! i mean, what the heck lady. you have 0 jurisdiction to be making claims like that - and its not like their national laws would affect the uk at all anyway??  (  on the plus side this is rly relevant to the current political climate ahem brexit so. i guess this is a slide in my books )
okay, so its an anime, right and it has to hype things up. sure. but explain why these leaders are now standing at diff heights against a galaxy background. fucking riveting. it really goes to shows how they wasted all their animation budget on the axe chopping scene.
okay now fr, i’m going to dive into the philo discussions they provide and explain why they don’t actually help the suicide debate uwu:
legal morality
wood makes a point about the subjective content of morality in different legal systems and expresses a desire to found a unified measure of morality for the entire world. idk why they all agreed to doing this honestly. each country has it’s own legal system, affected/shaped by its unique history and political nuances, a discussion of what the “best” moral content of law is super fucking redundant.
for some reason they all quickly agree that laws are value positive when in fact, most of our current legal systems are value neutral in practice, meaning that they don’t seek impose a particular ideal or way of life on people, but serve as a minimum form of social contract to maintain order and prevent chaos within society. for instance, the concept of informed consent in medical law: e.g. in the uk medical practitioners are advised against practising paternalism and have to give their patient all the details of an operation before they decide whether to consent. no decision is being made for them, per se, but gps are obliged to provide them with all the necessary info so that they can make a good choice. in an era where information can be found everywhere, it’s unlikely that moral norms are actually sourced from the law at all - rather, in social norms, the economy, politics, religion, international laws, etc.
it is entirely impossible to do what they’re achieving - to impose a singular ideal of morality on people. it’s something that is perpetuated through cultural identity and the transactions of society. it’s not possible. you can’t make people change their ideas about life and death overnight and it can’t be done through coercion.
also this point is so fucking stupid that i didn’t want to make it, but there is literally 0 consideration of god/religion at play in politics or the law. that would mean that our laws are governed by some ellusive prophetical standard when in fact the law is based on formal rationality, where consistent reasoning is applied to circumstances to decide on a particular judgement. lowe’s point about being virtuous via the law due to a fear or worship of god is entirely wrong. it ties into the overarching biblical theme of the anime, sure, but its so out of the blue and nonsensical that it serves to ruin the immersion (if the myspace-esque galaxy background didn’t already).
trolley problem vs the organ transplant
to compare the two thought experiments as if they’re morally equivalent is so fucked. the trolley problem is constrained by time. there are only two options which make it easy to make the right choice. there are lesser variables, and it makes sense for a decision to be made (saving one life over the five is purely utilitarian).
however, the organ transplant problem is much more complex. first of all, there are an infinite amount possibilities purely because of a lack of time constraint. it isn’t just an binary choice where you pull the lever or don’t. let me bring in some other variables: does how the person is killed matter? even if they’re dragged kicking and screaming to the operating table? even if they are a well-respected and intelligent person that can still contribute to society? what if the people requiring transplants actually receive them from someone else through a deceased donation process? these people still have a chance to be saved without incurring the loss of the donor’s life.
applying kantian theory: if we were to go about murdering healthy people to harvest their organs for the sick, it would entirely defeat the purpose of healthcare in itself. the future implications of this thought experiment are more far-reaching and complex than the split-second decision of whether to save one person’s life or five.
most importantly though, neither of these two main arguments raised during their discussion even served to explain their reasoning for supporting the suicide laws. they literally spent a whole episode talking abt some bullshit but they didn’t resolve the suicide debate at all. the gamer president’s final conclusion that “the meaning of life is the root of good and evil” makes absolute no sense.

spoilers and hot takes y'all already warning get ready to be offended, although no offense, each to their own.
not to be controversial or salty on main but I still think Mal has no personality,,,,book! Mal is an asshole,,,show! Mal is just the local Protector and Saviour™ dude,, and being there for ur best friend is not a personality trait,,,it's basic human behaviour,,the flashbacks were cute in the beginning but what did they expect from us?? To yearn for a non existent couple who can't move past their childhood memories?? And if u gotta depend on ONE(1) childhood flashback to conclude you love someone,,,bestie i have news for u,,you don't love them they're the only comfort you've known and without them you can't function,,,which is fucking weak and SO overused,,, literally 4 Darklina scenes made me feel more YEARNING and ANGST and WANTING than 8 hrs of unasked for Malina did,,,, I love Archie and I was glad they're making show! Mal better but he's not better,he's just a different character from the one I read about in the books,,,they said they'd make him more likeable but there's nothing to like or hate,,,he just exists,,,plus it's so PAINFUL to see Alina put herself and her entire unit in danger just because of Mal,,,,the only time you can actually see real Alina is when she's with Aleksander or Genya,,,when she's in the Little Palace,,,she says she isn't into farming but Mal is and if they give her the ending they gave her in the books then I'll simply kill everyone involved,,,,I'm tired of this trope and childhood friends to lovers does not work in fantasy
And also,I'm also kinda pissed that they made Shadow and Bone this friends to lovers show where EVERYONE is trying to separate two best friends,,,,it's such an overused trope,,,and it's no fun at all,,,the voice overs, the constant "I wish I were with you" "you're my true north" was very touching at the beginning but then it started irritating me,, because that's not what Shadow and Bone is about. It's about power,it's about love for your country, your people,it's about politics and magic systems and forming alliances and civil wars and fight between countries and faith. It's about defending your country when your country wouldn't care less if you or your people live or die. It's so much more than a love triangle between a powerful immortal,a newly discovered heroine and the good guy. It's anything but a love story. And that's exactly how it was treated.
I hope they shift the focus from ships in S2 to what actually matters in fantasy. The world building and the back stories rather than the fucking meadow scene. I will be honest,I didn't have any hopes and I only watched for Aleksander and the crows and I shall continue to do so, include Nikolai to the list. And I hope they don't waste the talent Ben Barnes is just to kill him off at the end for being Evil™ when ALL his actions are now justified. He did nothing wrong and I don't condone OR condemn his actions, infact I wish he did more.
P. S- isn't it fucking crazy and infuriating how "Darkling" is a slur in the show when it was Aleksander's FUCKING NAME in the triology?? The anti darkling agenda is showing and it's not a cute look.

So, I got rules of wolves, not really knowing that it was connected to like, every other book in the grishaverse (my bad), and I wanted to see if they were worth it cause when I read the synopsis for rules of wolves it sounded really interesting, and the little excerpts you post made me really intrigued, so should I read all the books or maybe some?
Some of the reviews on gooreads also made me weary 😩
Also, I forgot to say that the cruel prince is indeed amazing and I am in love with all of it.
UHHHH WELL, I MEAN.... -cough-
Ok, in fairness, I’m sure that a lot of grishaverse fans loved the sequel duology. (I think Rule of Wolves is the sequel to King of Scars.) What I’ve heard, however, hasn’t particularly enthused me, and this is in large part because I know that The Grisha Triology (the original books in the franchise) just... would not be my thing. I’m a Darklina shipper, and everything I’ve seen from the OG trilogy (including a lot of excerpts from the text, comprehensive reviews from ppl whose taste I trust bc it aligns with mine, general overview of the plot points and character arcs [such as they are lol]) tells me that I just would not enjoy actually reading the books. I’m content with the show, and with the Six of Crows duology which, by all accounts, is very different in tone and quality from either the OG trilogy or the sequel duology.
So, all of that said, I have personally only read Six of Crows and its sequel, Crooked Kingdom. (The excerpts and bits of analysis I was posting were from those books.) I loved them a lot, the crows are all amazing characters, the world they inhabit is painted in shades of grey rather than black and white and there’s a whole lot of complexity that, from what I can tell, is largely missing from the rest of the series. And SoC/CK can easily be read without reading the other books, since they stand on their own and don’t have much to do with the events in the rest of the world. (Although a few of them have cameos in the sequel duology.)
Best I can tell, KoS/RoW won’t make much sense unless you read the original trilogy first, because the main characters are prominent characters from the OG books and were heavily involved with those events. And my personal recommendation would be to just read SoC/CK, but if you want to read the OG books for context, go for it! For all that there are a lot of ppl who’re very salty about many aspects of the series, there are also plenty of people who enjoy it for any number of reasons, so you just might like it too. I just know that it isn’t to my personal tastes, so I stuck to the books that were and will have the show for the rest of it lol.
And as a final note, The Cruel Prince is absolutely amazing, and if you love that kind of moral complexity/grey morality/the protagonists being kind of terrible but for reasons and in ways that are understandable and engaging to read about, then again I highly recommend Six of Crows, you’ll get a lot of that with them.
