The generic pop culture dragon review (4 legs, 2 wings, 1 head) part 2
Toothless the Nightfury from How To train Your Dragon
Tumblr media
5.5/10. The thing about Toothless is that if he were in a different series and kept that slit eye expression, I’d love him. He’s got great wings and a nice sleek silhouette. Unfortunately he doesn’t match the style of the other dragons around him and lacks the spikey goofiness that the rest share in their design. If his spikes were spiker and his eyes were just fucking absurd like a potoo he’d be great.
Lightfury from How to Train Your Dragon
Tumblr media
2/10. Take everything that doesn’t work about Toothless and intensify it. Throw in ‘how do we show that it’s female?’ plus the very annoying trope of ‘females must be paler than their male counterparts’ and that’s this dragon. Unlike Toothless who I’d like if he was in something else, I wouldn’t like this dragon no matter what she was in. The most striking thing about it is how it turns invisible. I’d say if we’re gonna make her smooth and porpose like, shrink her eyes till their beady, give her a big bulging forehead, and make her chunky chunky and also like twice Toothless’ size.
Thoron the Dragon King from Dragons: Fire and Ice
Tumblr media Tumblr media
5/10. Definitely a dragon. I do like the dragon soul gem crystals and each dragon having a different power.  Not a fan of the wings or his colors. Doesn’t scream ‘King of Dragons’ to me. His green markings could pop more, maybe alster the shape of his horns and add green onto them?
Flight of Dragons (All)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
7/10. These guys are so chunky and old school I love them. Their anatomy makes no sense but we get the explanation of why exactly it works. These fuckers are balloons and that’s how they fly.
DORUgamon from Digimon
Tumblr media
6/10. I love dino-dragons with boxy heads. Also its fuzzy but not overly so. The coloring is nice and the claws and gem pop in contrast. And for a digimon the design doesn’t feel cluttered.
Xeno’jiva & Safi’jiva from Monster Hunter World
Tumblr media Tumblr media
7/10 (Xeno) & 4/10 (Safi). The baby form Xeno’jiva looks so damn pretty. Also it looks like it has multiple eyes. I love the crystalline glowy bits and the transparency of the skin. Also the freaky human hands. But the adult form Safi’jiva is such a downgrade. It looks more generic dragon than Fatalis somehow, like I feel like I’ve seen its exact design other places. It keeps nothing from the baby design but the human hands. If it had the constellations on its wings all the time then it’d rank higher.
Shara Ishvalda from Monster Hunter World
Tumblr media Tumblr media
10/10. Look at it? Look at it! Fucking creepy and majestic tree demon sonic laser beam spider hand wing dragon. Just its lovely. Also in its rock armor mode its spider crawls its wing hands at you!
Gogmazios from Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate
Tumblr media
8/10. It’s about the stance. Bracing with the massive wingarms is just yes. Also it sweats explosive tar and spits explosive tar. Sticky drippy tar. Its got things stuck to it.
Faffy from Dave the Barbarian
Tumblr media
1/10. I simply do not vibe with this potato.
Discord from My Little Pony Friendship is Magic
Tumblr media
5/10. Hmmm, I would like this better in a different art style. It’s very chimeric (tho doesn’t strike me as chaotic) and kind of evokes an eastern dragon. Not a fan of that tooth tho.

Digimon Adventure tri. - Chapter 5: Symbiosis | Thoughts
This was supposed to be Meiko and Hikari’s film? But it was more like Meiko and Taichi’s film -- with a small side of Hikari? This was also the first tri. film I didn't watch as soon as it was online . . . I just finished watching it, so here are my thoughts! (Spoiler: I liked it.)
The opening scenes with chibi Meiko actually made me like her a bit. She was pretty cute. And of course Meicoomon is super adorable. XD
Maki is fucking crazy. I got Oikawa vibes from her when she was walking around "talking" to Tapirmon. @_@
That random schoolgirl complaining about her "tamagotchi" (digimon in her phone?) not eating or sleeping made me laugh. So random. What a good joke though. XD
OMG Meichi is real guys. HAHAHA. I don’t NOT like it. HAHAHA. It makes me laugh. HAHAHA. As you can tell. XD
I liked Sora's short heart-to-heart with Meiko about being closed off and lonely. So in-character. So good.
Daigo showed more personality in this film than he has in the previous four films combined. That was nice.
"They say a woman's heart and the Digital World's weather are both fickle." - Tentomon. LMAO. Has Koushirou been moaning to him about Mimi? haha
I never find the Agumon/food jokes funny . . . But poor Daigo's wallet, feeding nine kids and their digimon? I hope he gets reimbursed by their parents. :p
Let’s randomly have the kids tell ghost stories? Uh, OK. lol. Yamato being scared of ghost stories is hilarious, so whatever. This scene had to exist for that reason alone. (Can you imagine Sora wanting to see horror films and having to hold Yamato in the cinema? HAHAHA.) Jou's horror story about bad grades was funny too. XD
MUMMY NATSUKO WANTED TO TALK TO HER BABY YAMATO. OMG MY HEART. But Yamato refused. :’(
Agumon asking Meiko if she was hungry is the first Agumon/food joke I laughed at. Well done, tri., you finally landed one. Persistence pays off! :P
Sora and Mimi hold hands whilst sleeping . . . OK, now all they have to do is invite Yamato to sleep in-between them next time. :B
Lots of plot. Lots of answers. I like. Homeostasis being an “enemy” is a cool “twist”. A lot of things start to make sense in this film and that’s good!
Meiko telling them to kill Meicoomon? Respect, girl. Meiko impressed me with her sudden ball-growth. How does she manage to stand upright with such balls of steel? I don’t know if she just wanted to be near Meicoomon when they killed her -- or if she intended to die with Meicoomon? Either way, Meiko’s balls made a huge entrance this film. Taichi is totally erect.
They all thought they lost Taichi, right? I didn’t think they were upset enough, save for Hikari (obviously) and Mimi. At least Mimi was crying?! I expected more angst! How did tri. NOT milk this moment? This is the same melodrama-loving tri., is it not!? Seriously though, I think they should’ve padded the scene out some more to show some real grief there from the kids (particularly Sora -- his BFF?), before Yamato took control. It would’ve made it more of an impact when Yamato did take control. It wasn’t like they were that upset in the first place, Yamato . . .
The whole Hikari/Ophanimon thing was really cool -- the animation of it and everything. I dug it. But otherwise, poor Hikari was pretty bland in her own film though . . . I don’t think that’s fair? Her standing up to Homeostasis was pretty cool also, but she got nothing else (aside from the aforementioned Ophanimon)? Hmmm. (And I don’t even like Hikari! She’s like the personification of paint drying! BUT EVEN DRYING PAINT DESERVES SOME CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT IN ITS OWN FILM!)
Yamato, on the other hand, was pretty amazing in this film. (He refuses to be out of the spotlight in every film, haha. Must be his rockstar narcissism. :P) Sora you lucky girl. I hate you. (Jokes, I love you too, don’t leave me.) When Yamato screamed so emotionally out of frustration and sadness that Meicoomon was going to be killed . . . oh my. Sora probably got hard. I did. *cough*
Taichi was pretty good, too. You all know I have issues with him in Reunion . . . but I guess it was worth it for the turnaround in this film? . . . Nah. He still pisses me off in Reunion. But hey, at least he was awesome here! I live in the moment, yo.
I actually liked Meiko in this film. I think the only other film I liked her in was Determination. It’s been a while since Meiko was on my screen and I didn’t want her removed from it, lol. So it was nice of tri. to finally flesh her out and give her some relevance. :P
Taichi/Meiko. I see no lie -- that’s actually all I see in this chapter. HAHAHA. (Yes, I mentioned them twice. IT. WAS. EVERYWHERE.)
I don’t know how I feel about seeing Yamato wearing Taichi’s goggles around his neck. On one hand . . . leader!Yamato, yay! Tri. Yamato definitely deserves it, especially in Reunion. *cough* On the other hand . . . those goggles belong to Taichi. :( Though I guess it’s more of a tribute, since they’re around his neck and not on his head?
I split MVP three ways this film: Meiko, Taichi and Yamato. Not in any particular order.
Overall, it was a solid effort. There weren’t any moments I thought were genuinely dumb or logic-defying (like in Loss *cough*). I liked it? It was perhaps a little too reflective before the climax, though. It definitely picked up a lot in the end, but I think the film should’ve scattered the action out a bit more. But still, solid effort.
Confession is still king! Chapter 6 (apparently called “Our Future” -- out in early summer in Japan next year) will be the resolution and, usually, the resolution is never the best . . . but we’ll see. I hope it is! Give us an awesome ending, tri.!
. . . Let’s have Yamato and Sora walking off hand-in-hand into the sunset -- followed by Taichi and Meiko. *Insert troll face.* ^____^ XD
