Growing up every sunday my immediate household would go to another family members house and we would have a feast with our entire local family. Every Sunday it was at another house and that’s still an event till this day. Sharing laughter, stories, games, dancing, and much more 🔑. - We did it so often it became a custom, and certain family members became the designated chef for certain dishes. late blog... life happens!

My venture has been going on for 9 weeks ( plus a day, hence the late blog title) so far not much has changed with my progress especially with what is happening in the world aka COVID-19. Getting the word out about my business is still going well, I have seen some new customers which have been referred by existing customers! yay! that’s always exciting.

 What has not been working for me as mentioned previously is my social media advertising, now I have signed up for different accounts (instagram, snapchat) but as I am not very tech savvy, I am still working out the kinks of the best ways to get my business out there.I do feel the project is coming along  pretty well considering 9 weeks ago I had no clue what opening and running a small business really was about, I had some understanding but geez there is so much more then you could think of! 

seriously, it’s tough. kudos to all who do this without guidance.What I have learned about myself is the importance of guidance!!! I cannot stress how important it is to have either one source of knowledge or different avenues of guidance for different aspects of your business, depending of course on what your business is or offers. One thing I have learned is that I still struggle at the financial side of running a business, hiring someone to help me with this portion. no matter how many different ways I look at it, im still lost and NEED help. Sorry for the late blog, things should be on track going forward.

Progress of my start up venture

When this venture started I knew it would be a lot of work, but I never imagined it to be as detailed as it is. What has been working for me is getting word out about my business, I live and work in a small town so talking face to face with potential clients has been great. Many of those potential clients have purchased items and are spreading the word around town. what has not been working for me like I had hoped was my social media advertising, I am not so good with this type of thing and it shows.  My plan was to reach out to the college just outside of town to try and expand my client base to students looking to have home cooked meals without the worry of actually cooking. I will be looking at other avenues to see how I can tap into this market.

I feel the project is coming along well, I feel like there is so much more I could have done within the first few weeks that would have helped me get past some obstacles that I am facing. What I’m learning about running a business is that it is so much more detailed then I thought, there are many factors that you must look into, its not just about your product/service its about where you will have your venture, profits, losses, staff, insurances, taxes and it goes on. I was ignorant to most of these aspects before starting the course.

 What I am learning about myself is that if I would like to open a business in the future I MUST have appropriate guidance, look for professionals who are able to guide me when it comes to certain things. An example would be an accountant; I am in completely over my head when it comes to all the finances, taxes, payroll etc. Just make me completely batty.

Where will I get the money?

Meals with love will start out with my initial funds, and it will include love money. When approaching family and friends with the request of love money, I will allow access to my business plan and financial plan ( estimated) I will show what the projected influx of funds would be and set up a payment plan so that they could see, not only that I have included the repayment into the finances but, also that I will be profitable. This will allow them to have an easier time lending the love money as they will be able to see the projection of repayment within the first year, although it may not all be paid in full within the first year they will see the attempt of approximately half.
