Would I Date This Character?: MeChat Edition [2]

Here's the first post for a better explanation of what this is. All images belong to the creators of MeChat. Also- I'm very sorry if I get any pronouns wrong :( They don't tell you the characters' pronouns until you go on a first date and so when I wrote these last night, I misgendered one of them 😅 But don't worry! I fixed it.

So if any pronouns in this post are wrong, I sincerely apologize. I'll fix it if I notice. But I'm pretty sure all of them are correct since I've done the first date with all of these characters on this post.

1.) Scott McNamara

- I'm really iffy on this one. Like- he's attractive and he has money.. But he literally accuses MC of eavesdropping and treats them like an inconvience ON THE FIRST DATE. LIKE BRO- IT'S A GLASS DOOR AND I'M AUTISTIC, I STARE AT MOVEMENT. IT'S NOT LIKE I COULD HEAR ANYTHING YOU DUMB BITCH. Scott does seem sweet and at least he can admit his mistakes. I'm just not gonna take that. ❓

2.) William Black

- If you want to live like Anatasia Steel and date a great value Christian Gray wannabe, here you go. The walmart version is here. I'm not into BDSM, or any sort of dominance shit. I know Lucifer is my favorite OM character, but I won't get on my knees for any man 🙄 Especially this ugly ass 💔

3.) Case Harper

- I haven't done much of his story, but Case seems like such an interesting character. The story is exciting and seems to have some good action going. Case also seems to be a genuinely caring guy ❤

4.) Erik Larsen

- I'm very much in between on this guy. I love me a pretty artist, mad respect that he's a painter because all I can paint is simple ass watercolor landscapes. Not sure if I'm into the drama tho❓

5.) Damon Hemlock

- I LOVE THEM??? Their entire look is absolutely gorgeous and I love someone with confidence 😉 They're also a drag queen so mad respect there. After all, I'm all about living how you want to and doing what makes you happy. Damon also gives me gender envy. Like, I want to have their confidence and look like them as a trans non binary person ❤

6.) Seong On

- Seong is kind of a pain in the ass but in a good way? Like, he's a pretty troublemaker type. And the type to seduce you into sex on the first date apparently. I can't say much about his personality right now, but he does seem really sweet ❤

7.) Zander Delgado

- HIS STORY IS SO INTRIGUING SO FAR?? LIKE OMG- Zander is a nerdy one, he likes books and knitting. But there's actually something darker going on beneath. Zander has amnesia and absolutely no clue as to what happened to him. And I'll be honest, I think its cute whenever he gets excited about getting to experience things as if its the first time, and rediscovering his previous passions. I'm loving him so far ❤

8.) Diego Garza

- I can respect a man who knows his own worth. Not one who does shit just to make their ex jealous. I'm sorry, but I'm not gonna be a tool to get your ex back. I have some self worth, you know? 💔

9.) Tomas Ward

- Love a guy who's wild and adventrous in more ways than one 😉 It's hilarious when he complains about his job as a bodyguard being boring, especially since some celebrities are total dumbasses. I originally wrote here that he doesn't seem to move too quick. But then I was proven wrong by him kissing MC on the first date. Im still enjoying his storyline ❤

10.) Akio Fujimori

- I can respect an artist, but Akio is a bit... too much for me. He seems a bit like a workaholic, like the type to be invested in his work that he'll bail on you without warning. Like he's in a relationship with his job instead of you. And I'm just not into that 💔

So… I learned something about myself today. Tried one of those weird dating games that kept popping up in the ads and I realised that I tend to stick. As in, I picked that 1 guy and I don’t budge. LOL. I’m not even sure if that’s loyalty or obsession.

this was never in the history of forever ever gonna happen and i understand why it didn't and why it won't but i would've died 1000 deaths for a male mc in mcl. not even just in new gen, i would've loved to be gay asf in hsl, ul and ll too:') this isn't like a critique or anything but a guy can dream right😂😂?

lol anyway, just wondering if maybe you have any recs for otome with male/gn mc? or if not if you know someone who might? mcl is the only one I've ever gotten really into so i don't know about any other games like it 🙃

I'm sorry, friend. I really wish you and everyone were able to play the game as you wish and wouldn't have to "adapt" to what is available. Unfortunately some features like a male MC or multiple f/f routes are too expensive for a small company like Beemoov.

Tbh I haven't seen many otome games with a male MC around, otome by definition have female protagonists. There are lots of BL games around though (BL = boys love) where the MC is gender locked as male and all the crushes are male. I've never played one so I can't recommend any but if you look for BL games I'm sure you're going to find a ton!

Other than BL/yaoi games, there are games with no visuals of the MC so you can assume they are whatever gender you prefer (oten they let you choose pronouns). Generally these games have no illustrations or they do but only show the crushes alone without the MC. A few names I can think of are Arcana, Obey Me, Touchstarved (only the demo is out at the moment), When The Night Comes and other games from the same company (iirc there was some drama around it but I'm not informed). Again, take a look around because there are many! I think these games are generally referred to as Amare games, because they have the same formula of otome games but aren't strictly aimed at a female audience.

The only otome game with visuals I can think of which attempted to have both female and male MC and also multiple routes (5 male and 5 female) is Sweet Elite. However, I would say that it failed in this attempt, because in 12 episodes of the first season, there is only one episode with 1-1 illustrations with the crushes, then there is one episode where there are illustrations of the crushes alone, and everything else is group illustrations, max 2 or 3 per episode. (To me it ended up feeling more like a friendship game than a romance game.)

So, clearly, it's even more proof that when games have a big visual component and also offer customisation, it's basically impossible to have two genders MC. Unless it's a huge company producing them, but I'm not even sure that's the case because Is It Love? games for example were produced by Ubisoft and they didn't even offer look customisation, let alone gender customisation.

Another suggestion I can give you, is to check out mobile apps such as Chapters, Choices and Episodes. These aren't exactly otome games, but more similar to romance books translated as games. They have huge libraries and several titles are either gender locked yaoi or you can pick your own gender. You can even customise the looks of the MC and the crushes, but of course there are no CGs.

Oh, and one last thing that comes to mind, another option for you could be to check out dating app simulation games, basically fake tinder apps, they have lots of crushes each one with their own story, you can choose pronouns but your avatar will never appear in game or in CGs. A few names I remember are MeChat, Love Link, Love Verse, but I'm sure there are more. The stories can be quite entertaining so I suggest you check them out. (I remember MeChat had both a Lysander and a Castiel lookalikes).

So really, there are SO MANY games around that there's no need to stick to one where we have to adapt to game features we don't like. Ultimately MCL's main target audience are straight, cis women (with a very small offering of f/f routes) and I wouldn't stick to it if I weren't one. I remember when I started playing 11 years ago and I was looking for more games in a language I could understand and I could find very little, now instead there's so much competition that there's something for literally everyone.

Re: mysterious MeChat match guy with way too many likes, I just got another completely random automatch with another pretty average seeming character and innocuous first conversation and this is the like count so it might be either a glitch or that the likes are only displayed for the current conversation and not the character as a whole, so the first impressions are getting the most likes. (I was more intrigued when I thought the character was sentient or hiding some amazing secret, but mystery partly solved I guess).

Sorry for taking so long @alixennial but I've quite the collection of screenshots to go through. There's some scenes/lines that either touched me or struck a nerve, I'll post some of them here and try not to ramble too much. Too late

Let's start with murder husband 😂

He deserves his nickname "Brutal Beast". He rude (calls MC "simpleton" and "foolish" and yet, that hasn't turned me away yet) and terrifying (he lacks emotion and frequently turns to violence yes, I know...shit taste in men - but look at him, he's beautiful) Moving on...

This one's route is releasing in a few days...he's gonna be a troublesome one. I would say I'd need a break after reading Chev's route and would like to read something "lighter" or at least more fun, but I don't think *any* of the stories in IkePri would be considered light. I think they're all gonna be more dark and twisty.

Except maybe Luke. Poor Luke, I'm still wondering how this very sweet guy got stuck with this lot. Can someone please just give him some honey? I suppose if there's one "nice" route in this app, it's gonna be him? No honey, no life

I started reading Leonardo's route on a whim, there was some reward if you read, so I figured, why not. I wasn't expecting to find him to be so charming. And infuriating! I wanted to throw my phone at him, right up until the very end. Such a brilliant man who couldn't see what was right under his nose. I'd recommend his story to anyone, especially if you like the difficult ones.

I started Arthur's route right after Leonardo, and oof...what a difference! I do think he is a lot of fun, I wasn't terribly upset by his actions early on, but can see how that can be a problem for some. And I think he's kinda cute when he wears glasses.

Jonah, sweet, precious Jonah. Ok, he starts off as a gigantic pain in the ass. But as you get to know him, especially when he talks about his brother and strawberry mille feuille, you see how sweet he really is. And then this scene happened. If you read his route, then you know... I won't go into it here, but it was a very heavy scene. I would also recommend his route to anyone.

just fyi, someone on the MeChat subreddit said they saw your Marlee Koch pic on an ad for MeChat. They didn't provide a screenshot of the ad, just your art, so I don't know if they were telling the truth but they said "I quit playing around release, but the moment I saw her in an ad I reinstalled, only to find she didn't exist. Checked the wiki and she wasn't even listed under unavailable matches." I thought you should know in case they legit took your art

My original post was just talking about how I you really look like eerily like her.

It’s really strange though if she’s not on the wiki, the pic I posted was a screenshot of her profile pic I got while swiping. I just saw the whole post about her on Reddit and did address that she is not my oc, I’m going to try and get in contact with MeChat to see if I can find anything out about her because this is really weird, because she is not even showing up literally anywhere I look.

Toripo/Toriyama's Dialogue During the Ending:

In case you didn't know, when you arrive at the unnamed cube where Kluke's birthday party is held, and then go to a tree behind the mechat you just landed, you can talk to Toripo one last time. Though this time it's just a straight up Toriyama fourth wall break. Here is the full dialogue:

For the people who follow @ilyom and I for the MeChat updates but visibly can’t wait to see new GCs, I want you to know that Jun and I also have lives and we’re not on the game 24/7. Plus, as you know, some choices cost gems and we don’t have an unlimited amount of them (and don’t pay for them all the time). So, please, when you can’t wait and ask us where the rest of the CGs are/when they’re coming, be polite. I don’t know for my friend but, in my case, I don’t like the comments in which I feel you see me as a robot that’s only here to update posts. “Hello” and “please” aren’t difficult to write.
