my kid is getting so into the warrior cats it's so cute. she gets all dismayed whenever the cats do something mean or strict, she's always like "if i was there, i would let firepaw eat something, i would catch a mouse and give it to him." or "wow, yellowfang is SO mean, if i was a cat i would hiss and scratch her!" like yes queen go off!!! you would be the nicest warrior cat in the clan!
#we just finished like chapter 9?#she keeps asking me to skip the fights but like. coincidentally it's always literally one or two sentences before the fight is over anyway#it seems she has about 90% of the tolerance for violence that the audience is expected to have#it's so funny#she is 5 years old btw she is in kindergarten#and she can basically read??? we were making pumpkin pie today and i was having her read the instructions#and she read 'mix the dry ingredients in a medium bowl' with only half a second pause between each word#and then she got stuck on 'bowl' and sounded it out with the vowel like 'ow' (which is impressive that she has that letter combo memorized)#and when that wasn't a real word she immediately got frustrated and gave up#she's such a little perfectionist already -u-;;#but anyway is2g one of these days she's gonna get frustrated that i won't read a second chapter of warrior cats that night and#just pick up the book and start reading it herself#nothing like a cliffhanger to motivate you to push past your perfectionism#and jump right into Reading with a novel meant for kids twice your age!!#silver.chat

If you have no idea what fiber art to start with - as in, you aren't sure what you'll like, and don't have much of a clue - you should honestly start with a mixture of whatever piques your interest. Knitting needles and crochet hooks, at the least, are often very cheap per set brand-new, or you can look at secondhand stores if you want them cheaper (other fiber arts tools like looms may be more pricey, depending on what you want). If you can, look for classes such as a crafts class - a library might have something akin to this, some will have craft spaces with a variety of little crafters things.
There's sometimes this idea floating around that you are only permitted to do one craft at once - this isn't true. You are a multifaceted, complex person. It only makes sense, then, that your art is the same. Fiber art is an expression of one's humanity in its rawest form, no matter what you pick up. This goes for all art beyond the fiber arts, too! Art is an expression of your humanity. Let it express that 💛
#art#fiber art#every fiber art is good! they ALL have their place and their benefits. there is NO wrong decision to make in what medium of fiber you choos#i know for knitting and crochet especially that beginners aren't sure which to pick up...#...the secret is that you can pick up BOTH. you don't have to settle 💛#you might like one better than the other and that is okay too - but you don't have to pressure yourself to pick one#there's a handloom at this secondhand store and it's a german one so the instructions. are in german. but i want her................ loom <#i absolutely don't need it and i probably shouldn't get it but. loom. fiber. fabric#was watching a crochet vs. knitting video but i don't know if i always agree that you should pick one up and almost shun the other#there are ways to make it work out - it's going to work out!!

Garlic Beefsteak with Mushrooms and Béchamel Sauce
Ingredients:
Steak:
2 beef steaks (such as ribeye or sirloin), about 1-inch thick
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 cloves garlic, minced
Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
Fresh rosemary sprigs (for garnish)
Mushrooms:
1 cup mushrooms, sliced (such as cremini or button)
1 tablespoon butter
1 clove garlic, minced
Salt to taste
Béchamel Sauce:
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups milk
Salt and white pepper to taste
A pinch of nutmeg (optional)
Instructions:
Prepare the Steak:
Season the steaks generously with salt and black pepper.
In a skillet over medium-high heat, warm the olive oil and add the minced garlic. Sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.
Add the steaks to the skillet and cook to your desired doneness, about 3-4 minutes per side for medium-rare, depending on thickness.
Remove steaks from the skillet and let them rest.
Cook the Mushrooms:
In the same skillet, melt butter over medium heat.
Add the sliced mushrooms and the second clove of minced garlic, sautéing until the mushrooms are golden and tender.
Season with salt to taste. Remove from heat and set aside.
Make the Béchamel Sauce:
In a saucepan, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat.
Whisk in the flour and cook for about 2 minutes without letting it brown.
Gradually add the milk, whisking constantly to prevent any lumps from forming.
Continue to cook and stir until the sauce thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon.
Season with salt, white pepper, and a pinch of nutmeg if desired. Remove from heat.
Assemble the Dish:
Place the rested steaks on a warm plate.
Top the steaks with the sautéed mushrooms.
Pour the warm béchamel sauce over the steaks and mushrooms.
Garnish with fresh rosemary sprigs.

HELLO i did not expect the minecraft cross stitch post to do as well thank u very much for ur support😭 here are some sample pages from the work in progress zine. it needs some adjustments absolutely, like the symbols need some fixings but i am very excited to work on this project and to share it :)
#it is going to be a free zine booklet btw and i am the only person working on it idk how long itll take to complete but i am cross#stitching these patterns as i go in a genuine love for the medium and this does not have to be cross stitch like if u want to use these for#whatever then please absolutely do it is not married to cross stitch u can do anything u want in ur lifetime#also i will absolutely include instruction on how to make these bc they are rly very easy and fun to make i encourage ppl to make their own#and experiment w ideas :) ok bye im just rambling bye ily#u have to crop a photo into a 1:1 perfect square and then put it into [most] pixel art programs as a 32x32 resolution and then manually#paint over it to refine it and that is how u make them#in brief#OK BYE😭 <3#DANG IT also to make the symbol patterns i opened an excel sheet g00gle sheets and i made all the columns/rows to be like square sized and#and then i filled it in w symbols for each color these were all manually put into place bc i could not find a ‘cross stitch pattern#generator’ that was decent it was all nonsense but that is how i made the charts if u would like to also make them#just get some symbols and copy/paste them into the squares#WILL ELABORATE on it more in the zine but in case any1 wants to make their own that is how i did it#OK BYE NOW FOR REAL

Blessings upon microwaves and microwave food. So many blessings. Unspeakably grateful.
#trader Joe’s frozen gyazo cooked in the microwave instead of on the stove#no pan to clean takes like 5 minutes on medium power (the instructions on the bag are bad)#little bit a sesame oil and a lot of soy sauce#delicious#(obviously they’re even better cooked in a pan but that’s WORK)

it sucks so much ass that i can’t use any of my paintings for my portfolio because they’re all fanart :( you might say ‘oh jey, why don’t you just paint other things?’ very easy answer to that. i don’t want to :) i paint for myself and i don’t want to have to do things i won’t enjoy for the sake of a portfolio
#i’m essentially auditing a painting class this year (situation is a bit more complicated) but basically i’m learning oils#and i’ll hopefully end up with portfolio pieces from that#but at home i paint my little guys i don’t give a shit if the paintings are ‘useless’#it’s sad that fanart is so not valued as like real art that matters. we’re talking about in art history who gets to define art and its value#and like yeah. why is a shitty oil painting i did with no experience or instruction more ‘real art’#than the very technical acrylic paintings i spend dozens of hours on just because of the content? and also medium and size#16x20 oil vs 4x5 acrylic the oil one will Always be valued higher#moral is art world is confusing and arbitrary and annoying and i want to put my own damn paintings in my portfolio#and that i Hate the notion of ‘useless art’ i think that’s so much bullshit. all art is so so important#<]:)

Why is a scent machine right for you?
When you finally find your signature home scent, you want to make sure it permeates every inch of your house. Scent machines are simply scent diffusers that provide you with consistent, long-lasting, far-reaching results. Let us show you some of the benefits of this ultra-convenient diffusion option.
Boosts the range of overall housing remodelling
Our home scent diffusers atomise fragrance oils throughout your entire place, so whether you're in the kitchen, bathroom, or bedroom, you can enjoy your favourite aromas. These results are especially wonderful in open floor plan settings. If you want to extend the coverage to areas such as a larger house or guest house, a finished basement or a home studio, simply add an additional unit. Or, have one upstairs and one downstairs to effortlessly change the scent of your home in different areas of the home.
Stylish and quiet
Not only is this diffusion powerful, it's also quiet and discreet. It's no wonder resorts, hospitals, professional offices and boutiques use the same scent technology you'll find in scent machines everywhere, and you can wall-mount your diffuser or set it up freestanding. Sized to fit, you can easily mount it on a cabinet, countertop, side table or shelf.
The odour dispenser is easy to move and comes in heavy and light weights. So you can put it out of reach of small hands or paws, or you can put it in a noisy space where it's easy to get it to refill and adjust.
But what about noise? No need to worry about that either. Our diffuser is very quiet.
Super user-friendly
We make setting up and switching perfumes a breeze. Diffusers are easy to programme, adjust, refill and use overall. We also provide detailed and illustrated step-by-step user guides and online how-to videos to get you off to a great start.
So many fragrances to choose from
We have over 210,000 different essential oils to choose from, each designed to be 100% compatible with your scent machine. Set up your diffuser according to what you want.
Choose from luxury holiday inspired home fragrances, seasonal scents, or aromas that will remind you of your favourite places. And because we've paired this diffuser with high-quality fragrance oils, rather than the cartridges many of our competitors use, you can count on stronger coverage that lasts to the last drop.
Order your scent diffuser
Why waste money on solutions that don't last or don't live up to your expectations? A home fragrance is like a perfume for your home. It sets the mood and reflects your lifestyle and personality. It's worth the investment.

The traditional French dessert Tarte Tatin is usually made with caramelized fruit and pastry. Tomato Tarte Tatin is a savory take on the dessert. Butter, brown sugar, and balsamic vinegar are used to caramelize cherry tomatoes in this recipe. Puff pastry is then used to cover the tomatoes and they are baked until golden brown. The end result is a delicious mix of sweet and savory tastes that is great for any event.
Ingredients: 500g cherry tomatoes. 1 sheet puff pastry. 50g butter. 50g brown sugar. 2 tbsp balsamic vinegar. Salt and pepper to taste. Fresh basil leaves for garnish.
Instructions: Preheat the oven to 200C 400F. In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the brown sugar and balsamic vinegar, stirring until the sugar is dissolved. Add the cherry tomatoes to the skillet, and cook for about 5 minutes until slightly softened. Season with salt and pepper. Roll out the puff pastry and cut it into a circle slightly larger than the skillet. Place the puff pastry over the tomatoes, tucking in the edges. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and crispy. Carefully invert the tart onto a serving plate, allowing the tomatoes to be on top. Garnish with fresh basil leaves before serving.

not to complain about teacher things out loud on here, but one thing i kinda had to accept is that for some reason most of my students refuse to read the assignment sheets (the thing with the instructions, requirements, and suggestions for every project and essay) i write for them. "but thomas, how do you know they don't read them?" i had a student ask me how long the assignment titled "2-page essay" was supposed to be and when i pointed out that it indeed needed to be 2 pages or--like the assignment sheet suggested--500-600 words seemed surprised about that word count which were the first two words of the first sentence of the assignment sheet that they very clearly did not read
#medium post?#i've started hiding instructions for extra credit in the middle of paragraphs but who knows if that'll work
