Ayalon's a romantic, but he's also old. He'll ask Mello to pause for a second so they can stare up at the red, orange, and yellow leaves and after a moment of silence he'll nod his approval ( and maybe even give mello a leaf that reminds ayalon of him ). he's never carved a pumpkin before but he'd like to try! he's also never been to a pumpkin patch or done a corn maze or got on one of those hayrides. mello's gonna be dragged along for all of it.

when   he   left   whammy’s   house   he’d   cut   all   contact.   it   was   intentional   -   and   difficult.   he   knew   it   would   be   -   they   may   not   have   literally   implanted   tracking   devices   ,   or   something   just   as   absurd.   but   he   knew   he’d   be   tracked   ,   watched.   none   the   less.   which   was   ironic   ,   because   he’d   been   doing   just   the   same.   for      nearly   four   years   -   with   the   help   of   the   intel   his   position   in   the   mafia   supplied.   he’d   kept   an   eye   on   his   friend   -   the   only   one   he   really   had   in   the   orphanage.      making   sure   the   idiot   -   didn’t   do   anything   stupid.   or   give   in   to   working   with   near   -   like   roger   would   have   no   doubt   suggested   when   he   left.      he   hated   asking   for   help   -   he   hated   the   weakness.   not   being   able   to   do   something   alone   -   others   a   tool   to   get   him   where   he   needed.   but      -   that   cockiness   and   landed   him   in   a   dire   spot.      gloved   hand   reaches   to   touch   the   bandage   covering   his   left   eye   -   tender   skin   underneath   still   healing.   weaving   together   -   no   doubt   leaving   some   kind   of   disfigurement   in   it's   wake.   he   dreaded   removing   the   coverings.   but   the   scar   ,   however   bad   it   may   prove   to   be.   would   in   turn   serve   to   remind   him   of   the   seriousness   of   the   kira   case   -   one   more   challenging   than   he   first   thought.      one   he’d   need   matt’s   help   to   solve.      with   a   sigh   he   swallowed   his   pride   -   rapping   on   the   apartment   door.   it   was   an   address   he   made   care   to   memorise.

👫 Mello

four headcanons

1. Beyond was 14 when Mello was taken into Wammy’s House at 7, in 1992. At first, Beyond paid no attention to the fourth generation; his obsession with L was darkening every day & he was slowly beginning to lose his mind to the competitive environment, having been there for seven years himself. It wasn’t until A, who had a much more relaxed take on things than Beyond (Given that A did not have an obsession to feed & was possibly already entertaining the idea of suicide), introduced Mello & him that Beyond got a reprieve from his madness.

2. Beyond instantly liked Mello, which was a first. It had taken him years to warm up to A & that was the friendliest relationship Beyond had; but Mello & him clicked immediately. The two passionate spit-fires never had an awkward “getting to know” each other phase; from the first introduction, they empathized with each other on a deep level. 

3. Mello genuinely looked up to Beyond who, for all intents & purposes, seemed like a sane role model. Mello was Beyond’s introduction to his big brother role to the fourth generation; from there, it was easy to see Matt, Near, & the other children as souls he felt responsible for. L wasn’t going to look after them & Wammy did an awful job at it; Beyond stepped up & discovered he had a parental streak in him.

4. Wammy’s House performed a lot of practice cases for the children to acclimate into detective thought processes. Previously, A & Beyond had always teamed up but found that their personalities clashed with each other; Beyond always wanted to take a creative, out of the box approach while A was always methodical. One day, on a whim, Beyond decided to team up with Mello instead & the result was intimidatingly fantastic; their creative brashness & deductive ingenuity complimented each other in ways the teachers hadn’t seen before. They usually got a low grade just based on their methods & their very low moral integrity, but they genuinely had fun with it & always grew closer with every case.

5. Both Mello & Beyond are prone to panic attacks fed by feelings of inadequacy resulting from their “second place” positions in their respective generations. By the time Mello starts experiencing these, Beyond is proficient enough with his own disorder to expertly handle Mello’s; it’s an unspoken rule between them that, when Mello feels an onset of intense emotion, whether it be rage or panic, he goes to Beyond who can always talk him down.

6. Beyond spoils the heck out of Mello & chocolate gifts that were meant for L are quickly given to the blond, instead; at least Mello appreciates them & acknowledges him. In return, Mello usually gives Beyond moderately creepy stuff he finds around the edges of the property; ugly stones, bones of animals, lost buttons, general liminal things that he feels Beyond will like. 

7. A’s suicide is indescribably difficult for Beyond, despite the fact that he saw it coming the entire time. It happens just months before Beyond’s inevitable departure from Wammy’s House & it, unfortunately, made him distance himself from Mello, who then began to lash out at Near more.

8. After Beyond ran away from Wammy’s House on his 18th birthday when L formally rejected him as his successor, rumors began to spread through the house. Regardless of what the other children said, Mello was more heartbroken at the fact that Beyond hadn’t said goodbye to him before leaving  –  It is something Beyond reflects about in prison & regrets greatly. 

9. Beyond wrote many letters to Mello while in prison, though he never intended to send any of them; even if he wanted to, he could not.

10. Mello’s death is not broadcasted on television as Matt’s is, but Beyond always remembers every lifespan he’s ever seen, & so on the day Mello dies, he buries the letters he wrote on prison grounds, dedicating the space as a small moment of consecration for his lost friend.

🏨  : How well does your muse sleep?

honestly  –  it  really  depends  on  what  he  is  going  through  at  that  point  in  time  and  how  he  is  doing  mentally.   some  nights,  mello  can  sleep  for  a  solid  seven  hours  without  waking  up.  other  nights,  he  can’t  sleep  for  longer  than  an  hour,  if  he  manages  to  sleep  at  all.  his  mind  is  always  running,  usually.  and  his  thoughts  can  take  a  severely  dark  and  self-deprecating  turn  real  fast.  

during  the  kira  case,  he  hardly  slept  at  all.  he  was  always  up  doing  something  or  thinking  /  plotting.  he  could  taste  the  potential  for  failure  and  that  alone  was  enough to  keep  him  up,  running  on  pure  hateful  intent  to  bring  kira  down.   he  was  always  so  tired  but  you  bet  your  ass  he  would  never  show  or  admit  it.  

in  the  au  i’ve  developed  where  mello  doesn’t  end  up  frick  frackin’  dying  on  me,  he  sleeps  real  good  after  everything  is  over.  like  i  mean,  the  kid  sleeps  for  a  solid  three days  and  it’s  the  best  damn  sleep  he’s  ever  had.
