Benjamin and Uncle Joel 🥺🥺💕 This was my second time in ArtRage and still kinda trying to find my footing, but I had a lot of fun with the color blending. I’ve been trying to narrow my color palettes to three hues max, and vary the saturation and intensity, and I think it’s helping me keep everything a little bit more coherent.

Ellie and Shimmer 🥺🥺🥺
I think I've watched episode 1 four times now and I keep finding new things to love with every rewatch. It was really hard to choose which shot I wanted to paint (I took 350 screenshots but I just loved the colors and composition of this one
I used a primary palette for this one: French ultramarine, cad red, and lemon yellow (and titanium white). Also used a new surface: watercolor canvas from Masters Touch, straight off the pad with no additional coats of gesso. Controversial opinion cause that paper is very very cheap but I actually loved it as a painting surface. Definitely had a finer texture than any of the canvas panels l've seen at my local craft store.

gotta hold off on posting it to insta to appease the algorithm or whatever, but u guys get to see it now <3
kinda went overboard with the color saturation because i let myself use every color I own (which is like 7 colors), but the values are mostly correct (I think) so whatEvER. ALso, alizarin red + phthalo green? absolutely lethal aura. I'm obsessed.
do u guys have a favorite Tommy song? mine is Nose on the Grindstone by Tyler Childers I think. Or Keep the Wolves Away by Uncle Lucius.

“Only through fear may we find our true strength"
Jacob and Constance, portrayed by @michaelabbottjr1 and @makena_whitlock
16x20, oil on canvas
To date the largest oil painting I have completed, and one of the most complex too. Used a limited palette for this, mostly Zorn (cad red, yellow ochre, lamp black, titanium white) with a little bit of burnt sienna and cadmium yellow to boost the oranges and greens. Working at this scale is in some ways much easier than working on a smaller canvas, but it was also harder to convince myself to limit the number of focal points. I ended up putting a lot of detail into the hammer, as well as Constance's braid, because both those elements were narratively significant and compositionally interesting. I added too much linseed oil to the background on the first pass so it cured with a lot of gloss; I decided to go back over it and change the texture by using a smaller filbert brush to make the leaves, and I think it's a lot better for it.
