i was also kind of thinking about the differences between for example misha and a hypothetical Female Matthew in the regular tlhworld because as much as i love misha i feel like she's been shaped a lot by the context of the plot in which everyone else is also genderswapped eg the whole charlotte henry debacle and the appearance of fields... not really a universe hopping thing per say but perhaps it is a canon divergence from tlh where everything is the same except for math being a girl... idk as a girl who has a lot of boy friends i just like thinking about maybe the dynamics that female!math would have with the canon!merrythieves growing up and in the academy and all

Ooh, this is very interesting to think about. There is a sense to which I think she would be similar whether she were in the canon world or over in TTF, simply because there's things Matthew can get away with that a feminine counterpart would not be able to at that time, especially not over in the TLH world where the Shadowhunters are still a world ruled by men even if they're not as patriarchal as the mundane world quite (whereas in TTF the matriarchy is implicit when you look at what the revolutionary co. does get away with and how many positions of power are held by women).

But yes. I do wonder how Michelle would've handled the whole rumors-of-affairs debacle. I can't imagine her falling for the truth potion trick (hence why not that plotline in TTF) because we as women and raised-as-women-whether-we-are-or-not learn wariness faster, I think, than boys do, simply because we're less privileged, less safe. But I could see any number of other things she may have done to try to get answers all of which could have been equally disastrous for those involved.

It also makes me wonder about her possible response to Cordelia and/or other romantic entanglements. In TTF we get Fields, and no love triangle, because a) Claude felt too committed and too intense about commitment to get himself caught in a love triangle, and b) Michelle would have Hated Herself for pulling her parabatai's boyfriend away. But the situation in TLH is very different, and layer on top of the weird romance dynamics we already have the fact that Michelle as a woman would understand just exactly what kind of mire Cordelia is sunk into, that could get to be a very interesting story very fast.

Rep Post What makes you feel better after a bad day/week? For me it’s a comfort read, a huge cup of tea or hot chocolate, a snuggly blanket and a cuddle with my littles. I have had a really rough week. I can’t put my finger on why. I feel a little bit lonely, a little bit anxious with the rising cases and my daughter being back at school. I feel a little bit lost. I feel a little bit lacking in focus. I feel a little bit sad. It’s also been a bad week for pain. I don’t suffer with anything chronically but sometimes my anxiety manifests as physical pain, mixed with hormonal migraines this week and just many other frustrations it’s been very draining. The point in all this is to say what I said in my stories. That we all experience things that sometimes make us feel a little lost, overwhelmed and out of control. We all have hardships and things we need to work through. Sometimes they are simple and sometimes they are just not. Tomorrow is another day, a new week where I will be kind and gentle to myself. I will write my list and try to work through it. It’s not about getting through it all, but it’s about doing something that helps me feel productive and makes me feel good.
