If you’re wondering, the little annotation I wrote was just me being exasperated at Diego. Like dude read the room it’s not the moment.

I just love this soft moment between Livvy and Emma because it shows the Blackthorns see her as a big sister.

He’s the roof over his family’s heads and he’s struggling to keep them safe because he can feel the cracks and he’s only human. He’s still a child. He shouldn’t have to do this alone.

He would do anything to keep his family together especially lie to the Clave. Grace and Lucie would approve of his embodiment of the Blackthorn motto.

That quote that says that if Clary died he’d burn the world down and dig her out of the ashes or something (+ Thule!Clace) yeah Jace gets it.

Also, Robert going all “choose the law!!” And not understanding them because when he was given the choice between love and saving face he chose to leave his parabatai behind.

Magnus and Arthur 👏

Protect Malec at all costs!! And also Clace (and Sizzy!! Actually just protect everyone at all costs nobody is allowed to die I won’t allow it)

Would Magnus do what Malcolm did, if the Lightwoods had killed Alec like the Blackthorns had killed Annabel ? In my opinion he would stop at nothing to get justice and see the right people held accountable but he would remember that Alec wouldn’t want to be brought back that way. Plus I feel like Magnus has closer friends than Malcolm. They would make him see sense.

“The stars will go out before I forget you, Mark Blackthorn”

Just imagine those words whispered to Mark’s grave a century from now. Kieran never forgets Mark. And when eons later he too passes away, he looks up at the stars, which are becoming hazy, and says “I did not forget”

This is the last thing I highlighted. The callback to Malcolm. It all comes around. It’s all because of love. In a way, Emma takes on Julian’s role, lying to protect the person she loves. And Julian echoes Malcolm’s words. He understands him now.

Not Emma following Tessa’s advice which comes from her experience with Will 😭 omg Tessa why would you just give this advice to Shadowhunter teenagers?? Did you not learn from the drama of TLH ? Like did you not think this would cause angst ?

the thing about the dark artifices is that it doesn’t just hit you with romance (though the romance wrecks me). it’s the love. ALL the love.

"world fucking collapses without u" kind. the desperate, “death cant separate us” kind. the “i know you better than i know myself” kind. the kind that tears me to shreds.

emma and cristina?? soulmates. no other word. ride or die. protectors of each other’s hearts.

julian and his siblings?? he raised them. protected them. sacrificed everything for them.

clary and emma?? emma looking up to her like a big sister, like a living legend.

kit and ty?? two lost boys trying to find safety in each other and not quite knowing how.

dru?? watching everything, loving so fiercely, being underestimated and STILL showing up.

livvy? bieng what holds everything together in all universes. being the source of hope in all universes.

kit ty and livvy?? love in its most complicated, tangled form — and fuckin beautiful.

jem, tessa, and kit?? literally ancient love and newfound hope colliding into something soul wreckingly painful

and the blackthorns. THE BLACKTHORNS.

the heart. the spine. the core.

love isn’t just a theme in tda. it’s the actual language.

romantic love, platonic love, playful love, selfless love, family love, obsessive love. Its written in every dialouge, every choice, every character, every sequence. and that’s why it stays with me.

you know what one really underrated but heartbreaking scene in tda is? that scene in lady midnight after mark comes back, when he lets the kids eat whatever they want for breakfast and makes a mess of the kitchen. everyone’s having fun but then julian comes and sees it and kind of just malfunctions and breaks down.

because julian can never be the fun one. he can never be the one who lets them eat syrup for breakfast, he’s too busy making sure they have actual food to eat for each meal of the day. julian can’t make a mess everywhere and leave it to clean later, he’s too busy running the institute and making sure the kids keep up with their studies and have clothes to wear and are as put together as they can be.

julian never gets to be the fun older brother, because he’s the parent. julian doesn’t get to take things lightly because he’s too busy holding everyone up. julian is serious because he stopped being a child when he lost his last parent aged twelve. julian is serious because the only person in the world he can open up to and share some of his burden with is the one person he can’t have without losing everything. cristina sums it up when she says to mark: he is envious because he loves them but cannot be their brother. he must be their father. in his mind, they dread him and adore you.

julian could never be the fun older brother. because he was too busy being the only parent the blackthorn siblings had left.

The way Julian knew instinctively that he wasn't kissing Emma in the faerie is one of my favourite scenes. Served yearning so bad!!!!!

the dark artifices is just THAT shadowhunters series for me, like not only did it introduce and lay down some wild stuff for the wicked powers to take over, but everything happened in there. malec wedding, clace proposal, two parabatai falling in love (the literal bible verses said IN BED ahem), robert lightwood's past with michael, literally all the couples stories being fire (kieraktina, diana and that guy from the hunt, kit and ty, julian and emma ofc), jem and tessa (no explanation needed, i just love seeing them), and the whole vibe at the L.A. institute and in the seelie and unseelie courts, and THULE which was insane. if the wicked powers can't beat that, then i'm afraid nothing else comes close to it for me
