Mexico world cup crew 2022: Final 26-man roster selected for Qatar
Tumblr media
Mexico reported their fundamental crew for the World Cup on 26 October in front of a cordial match against Iraq in Spain. The final 26-part list was then announced on November 14th. El Tri set up for business in Girona, Spain, prior to heading out to Qatar with pre-World Cup friendlies against Iraq and Sweden prior to playing Gathering C against Poland on Tuesday 22 November. Mexico world cup crew 2022 Administrator Goodbye Martino had until Friday, 21 October, to present an authority starter rundown of 35-55 players to FIFA, from which he would pick his last 26-man list for Qatar by Monday, 14 November. The Mexican League authoritatively delivered the starter list on 26 October. One of the people who did not make the basic starter list is Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez, who Martino has avoided with regard to the public group since roughly 2019. Chicharito's oversight is astonishing given Martino's proceeded with the position on the player, yet stays questionable given the player's great structure for the LA System and Mexico's going after the troubles. Likewise excluded were Chicharito's LA System partner Julian Araujo, Monterrey playmaker Rodolfo Pizarro, and Chivas midfielder Fernando Beltrán. Pizarro is a well-known person, but starting around 2020, he stopped actively engaging with the public group, whilst Beltran has been a peripheral participant for six months. For the last 26-man program, Martino needed to make only four cuts from the underlying 31-man list. Since Mexico has reported that Jesus Manuel 'Tecatito' Crown won't get back from his physical issue during the World Cup. Stars, qualities, and shortcomings of the Mexico public group Mexico has been regular in the knockout phases of the World Cup in the last seven releases, arriving at the round of 16 in each event. Yet, that is where the street clashes, with seven continuous losses in the Round of 16 to rivals Brazil (2018), Argentina (2006 and 2010), Netherlands (2014), Germany (1998), and Bulgaria (1994). USA (2002). El Tri recruited Argentine director Goodbye Martino to direct them to their fantasy ("fifth game" or quarterfinal appearance). Strengths & Weaknesses Assuming they are to arrive at their objective or go significantly further, they will require Napoli winger Hirving "Chucky" Lozano to have the effect and reuse them in the assault. He can send restricting protectors into scramble mode and open up space for his partners. The Mexico group is actually and strategically solid, with players who are proficient at ownership and the board of the game. The inquiry is whether they can beat the resistance with it. That is where Chuckie Lozano comes in. With Alexis Vega on the left, Uriel Antuna on the right, and Diego Linez off the seat, these wingers are basically the group's playmakers. On the off chance that rival groups can close him down, Mexico ought to be a danger. Star Its goalscoring and set-piece shielding, which doesn't make for an exceptionally encouraging mix. The Mexicans' whirling entryway at the forward position has received a lot of attention, but their lack of management is more of a problem than their completing ability. As previously said, it is doubtful that the wings will be made in a different way elsewhere if they are not cooked. If sound, Wolves forward Raul Jimenez is the ongoing starter, with Santiago Jimenez as his reinforcement. Given Giménez's objective scoring run with Feyenoord (six objectives in 16 games), the 21-year-old could be a starter. Henry Martin, a committed forward who is selfless and comes back to help with the going-after growth, is a contender for the position as well. On certain days, Mexico will require that additional help in midfield. Could Mexico at any point supplant players in the World Cup program? After the last 26-man program is true, World Cup partaking groups might make changes before the main round of the competition and just in extraordinary conditions. Gregg Berhalter needs to change the USMNT’s style or find other players
Tumblr media
This square peg is going to fit into that round hole eventually if we just believe in ourselves!
The United States men’s national team got whupped by Mexico on Friday night, losing 3-0 without ever looking threatening going forward. Gregg Berhalter’s team finished the match with zero open play shots on target from inside the box, and El Tri’s first two goals came from defensive calamities by the Americans.
Here are the highlights if you missed it:
A night to remember for El Tri. One to forget for the U.S. All the highlights from last night's North American Clasico ⬇️ pic.twitter.com/YLZpOlousU
— FOX Soccer (@FOXSoccer) September 7, 2019
The USMNT’s style of play was subjected to as much postgame scrutiny as the result itself. Despite lacking appropriate personnel, the USMNT refused to deviate from Berhalter’s preferred possession-based philosophy, which leans on short passing build-up from the back. And yet, after the game, Berhalter insisted that he was not disappointed with his team’s performance, and hit back at reporters.
Gregg Berhalter: From my perspective, I’m happier about this game than the Gold Cup final. In the Gold final I felt our only solution was to play the ball long. Now we’re doing what I’m envisioning.
— Tom Marshall (@mexicoworldcup) September 7, 2019
“We’re making progress - that’s not going to be your (the media’s) narrative but it is internally.” - Gregg Berhalter postgame #USAvMEX #USMNT
— Glenn Crooks (@GlennCrooks) September 7, 2019
Gregg Berhalter now challenging a reporter who says #USMNT was ‘overrun’ in first half. GB described opening half as ‘back and forth’. Anybody who watched #USAvMEX wanna weigh in? pic.twitter.com/xNIRCf5zXp
— Sebastian Salazar (@SebiSalazarFUT) September 7, 2019
A few stats suggest that Berhalter has a point. The USMNT finished the match with 54 percent possession, and completed a decent 81 percent of its passes. These numbers are not necessarily indicative of high-quality play, but they do suggest that the Americans are making progress towards playing the way that Berhalter wants. Previous iterations of the USMNT have struggled mightily to win the possession battle against technically superior Mexican sides, and Berhalter’s team is already better at that aspect of the game than those of his predecessors.
It’s also more important to work on big tactical concepts in friendlies, particularly friendlies more than two years away from the World Cup, than it is to rack up wins. Though that idea might upset fans who hate watching the USMNT lose to Mexico, it makes perfect sense for Berhalter to accept bad results now if he thinks the decisions he’s making will lead to more consistent performances in World Cup qualifying.
But I’m skeptical that those consistent performances are coming, mostly because the USMNT does not have the players to execute this style of play at a high level. Goalkeeper Zack Steffen and center back Walker Zimmerman are average passers. Zimmerman’s partner on Friday night, Aaron Long, is a bit better with his feet, but spends most of his time on a club team that mostly asks him to play ambitious long passes.
The USMNT also does not high press, and instead plays in what’s commonly referred to as a mid-block, pressuring opponents once they reach the midfield line with some situational exceptions. A team that plays this strategy and also wants to dominate possession needs to have excellent ball-winning midfielders, which the USMNT does not currently deploy. Berhalter has opted to sacrifice a player with those abilities for Wil Trapp, a holding midfielder who is solid at keeping possession and not much else.
Berhalter’s consistent selection of Zardes, a goal-poacher who is worse than his peers at everything but running fast and getting into good scoring positions, at striker is also puzzling given what Berhalter likes to do. Zardes’ inability to make a positive contribution in build-up play might not be a problem if Berhalter had a playmaking No. 10 like Federico Higuain at his disposal, but he does not. Picking Zardes, rather than the technically superior Josh Sargent or back-to-goal specialist Jozy Altidore, leads to a high number of bad turnovers. Zardes completed just six passes on Friday night, and only one of them was in the attacking third. He did not attempt a shot.
These ineffective players are unlikely to improve by coming to USMNT camp and playing in Berhalter’s style a handful of times per year. Zimmerman, Long, and Trapp are 26 years old. Zardes is 28. They’re probably too far along in their careers to develop new skillsets. Berhalter can count on young fullbacks Sergino Dest and Reggie Cannon to become better defenders, and 21-year-old Weston McKennie could plausibly develop into a much better creative passer, but the foundational pieces anchoring both ends of the team are unlikely to get good at the things they’re bad at.
And you know why this feels really bad? Mexico coach Gerardo Martino favors a style of play that actually suits the current USMNT player pool. The Americans’ hard-working, athletic players would be a perfect fit for Martino’s high-pressure, counter-attacking style. But Martino — who won MLS Cup as Atlanta United manager last season — was excluded from the USMNT coaching search because he does not speak English fluently.
Berhalter is still in the early stages of his job, and no one thinks he should be fired for a bad coaching performance against Mexico in a friendly. But currently, there isn’t much reason to believe his team will get better, because he hasn’t adjusted his coaching philosophy to fit his available personnel.
Believing in your players to execute your vision of a beautiful style of play is admirable, but a time will come when pragmatism is required. Berhalter will get nowhere if he’s an ideologue.

Mexican soccer cracking down on GK chant
Sebi Salazar recaps Mexico’s humbling defeat to Argentina, which was Tata Martino’s first loss as El Tri manager.
MEXICO CITY — Mexico’s football federation and Liga MX are set to crack down on the controversial goalkeeper chant that FIFA has ruled anti-gay, with clubs set to play behind closed doors if the chant continues and the FMF fearful of not making Qatar 2022 if it occurs regularly during World Cup qualifying.
The chant used by some fans at Mexico national team and Liga MX games — as well as in other Latin American countries — is aimed towards opposition goalkeepers as they are running up to take goal kicks. The Mexican federation has been fined on multiple occasions by FIFA because of it.
– World Cup 2022 qualifying: All you need to know
Liga MX president Enrique Bonilla said in a news conference on Friday that starting from Week 15 of the current 2019 Apertura season, the referee will be able to temporarily stop games if the chant is heard, take players back to the locker room for five to 10 minutes if it continues and force clubs to play their next home game behind closed doors if it doesn’t stop.
During Weeks 11 through 14 of the season, there will be a series of informative and educational warnings about what will happen in the future if the goalkeeper chant, or any other discriminatory behavior, is heard inside the stadium.
“We’re not in an emergency situation, but if we don’t resolve it, we will have problems and we don’t want that,” Bonilla said. “That’s why Liga MX and FMF will work in a proactive way.”
The Mexican federation will join Liga MX’s efforts to stamp out the chant, starting with the Oct. 15 CONCACAF Nations League match against Panama at Estadio Azteca.
This is the GK chant rule, per press release (sent after conference). This same procedure will be used for both Mexican national team and Liga MX games. For #eltrieng games it’ll start to be enforced from the Oct. 15 game vs. Panama. In #ligamxeng from week 15 of the Apertura. pic.twitter.com/Nb7WBuMifI
— Tom Marshall (@mexicoworldcup) September 20, 2019
FIFA’s “three-step procedure” will be implemented for national teams from the start of men’s World Cup qualifying for Qatar 2022, with the referees able to first stop the match, then suspend it and eventually abandon it if the behavior continues. FIFA informed associations of the anti-discrimination measures on June 7.
“If we don’t resolve this problem before the World Cup qualifiers for Qatar 2022, we’d be putting ourselves at risk of being punished by point deductions and in the worst-case scenario missing out on the World Cup,” federation president Yon de Luisa said. “But we are convinced, as an industry, that we can’t miss out on a competition, especially a World Cup, for something off the field.”
The chant was largely stopped at the 2018 World Cup in Russia following an educational campaign by the Mexican federation and players. Fans caught shouting the chant were warned they would have their Fan IDs confiscated, which would have prevented them from entering the stadiums in Russia.
Liga MX’s “three-step procedure” differs slightly to that of FIFA. Liga MX isn’t going to suspend games but instead will play the subsequent home match for the offending team behind closed doors.
Bonilla stressed that it isn’t only the term used in the goalkeeper chant that will need to be curbed, but “any expression against diversity.”
FIFA has recommended the Fare network’s Global Guide to Discriminatory Practices in Football as a “useful aid to identifying discriminatory behavior.” It defines the goalkeeper chant as “a homophobic chant usually directed at the opposition goalkeeper when he is taking a goal kick.”
The governing body “urges” all associations, leagues, clubs and disciplinary bodies to adopt its Anti-Discrimination Monitoring system, according to what a FIFA spokesperson told ESPN last June.

Product Placement
Saw this on Twitter and it made me laugh –
It’s from a Mexican press conference, a team called Chivas de Guadalajara, who had manager Jose Cardozo speak to the media from a room that looked more like his kitchen.
He’s got two cans of coke, one on either side of a Tecate microphone flag. On either side of the coke is a can of what appears to be chocolate milk (leche). Then the display is book-ended by two bags of Granvita granola. The backdrop also features Coke, Granvita, and Tecate, along with Powerade, Sello Rojo (coffee), Omnilife, Puma, Caliente (gambling), and Grupo Akron, which is their stadium sponsor and some sort of Mexican gas/automative company.
Anyway, that’s nine different sponsors that show up in this one frame from the press conference:
#productplacement too much? I know the club has financial troubles but having all those products at the press conference seems a little exaggerated. Prob not top of the list of issues at Chivas at the moment though. #ligamxeng pic.twitter.com/LO95uPHoCY
— Tom Marshall (@mexicoworldcup) August 13, 2018
Gotta be a record, or close to one.
Anyway, just for comparison, I used my mediocre Photoshop skills to build an example of what this might look like in Philadelphia (after the jump) –

It’s a bit much, yeah?
Edit – I forgot to put the sponsors on the backdrop:

LAFC's Carlos Vela, Galaxy's Jona dos Santos play as Mexico lose to Brazil
July 2, 20182:28PM EDT
LAFC star Carlos Vela logged a full 90 minutes for Mexico on Monday as Brazil brought El Tri’s World Cup dream to an unceremonious end with a 2-0 win in their Round of 16 clash in Samara, Russia.
Despite a furious start from Mexico that pushed the five-time world champions deep into their own end in the early going, Brazil weathered the storm and cruised to a confident victory, paced by tap-in goals from Neymar and Roberto Firmino.
Brazil ended Mexico’s FIFA World Cup hopes behind a solid performance from Neymar.

— FOX Soccer (@FOXSoccer) July 2, 2018
LA Galaxy midfielder Jonathan dos Santos came off the bench in relief of Edson Alvarez in the 55th minute, making his FIFA World Cup debut and helping Mexico’s cause with a 100 percent completion rate on his 23 passes as well as three tackles and an interception.
Working in an advanced role mainly along Mexico’s right flank, Vela completed 84.9 percent of his 33 passes, including a team-high four key passes, and uncorked two shots, one of them on target, a trademark curling left-footer that forced Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson to parry the effort over the crossbar.
Real Salt Lake academy product Carlos Salcedo once again earned a start for El Tri and played a full 90 minutes at center back. Former New York Red Bulls Designated Player Rafa Marquez, 39, was a surprise inclusion in El Tri’s XI, playing a holding midfield role before subbing out at halftime in what’s likely to be his last game as a professional, having announced his retirement before the tournament.
It may also prove to be former RBNY and Chicago Fire coach Juan Carlos Osorio’s final game in charge of the squad.
Juan Carlos Osorio in what could be his last press conference as #mex manager: I would like to thank all of our fans. The support and love for the national team is amazing. I want to apologize for not reaching our target. #mex fans are prob best fans in the world. #eltrieng
— Tom Marshall (@mexicoworldcup) July 2, 2018
The loss cuts short an otherwise impressive Russia 2018 for Mexico, and continues their curse of the quinto partido (“fifth game”), with the program now having crashed out at the Round of 16 stage in seven consecutive World Cups.

Mexico World Cup decision on Giovani dos Santos will go down to the wire
Before he heads to Russia to cover Mexico at the World Cup, Herculez Gomez predicts how far El Tri will go in the tournament.
After Mexico’s preliminary World Cup roster was announced, Herc Gomez talks about which players he wouldn’t take to Russia.
Giovani dos Santos’ inclusion, or not, in El Tri‘s World Cup squad has been the subject of much debate in Mexico this week, with coach Juan Carlos Osorio set to reduce the current 27-player squad to 23 on June 3.
There was one rumor-mill story indicating Dos Santos would be included because of commercial interests. Another suggested he hadn’t followed Osorio’s preparation plan. And there have been headlines such as, “The crack that never was.”
With all the (often conflicting) reports regarding Dos Santos’ World Cup spot, it is difficult to filter through opinions and come to a solid conclusion.
What we do know is that since Osorio heaped praise on Dos Santos in January — he said Dos Santos was in an “athletic condition” that was “possibly the best in his career” — things haven’t gone particularly well. In the LA Galaxy’s second game of the MLS season on March 11 against New York City FC, Dos Santos was taken off at half-time with a sore hamstring. He wouldn’t return until April 21, also missing out on Mexico’s March friendlies against Iceland and Croatia.
The 29-year-old picked up another injury on May 5 and didn’t return until May 25, coming off the bench for 15 minutes in the Galaxy’s 1-0 win over San Jose. Dos Santos did play the final 20 minutes for El Tri in its 0-0 draw against Wales on Wednesday, but it has not exactly been an ideal buildup to the World Cup.
Dos Santos has played just 425 minutes (327 for Galaxy, 98 with the national team) since his 2017 MLS season ended on Oct. 22; he has completed a full 90 minutes only once. And all the hard work Dos Santos and Osorio stressed the forward was putting in during the offseason hasn’t been seen, perhaps mainly due to the injuries.
It wouldn’t be fair to say Osorio’s staunch defense of Dos Santos over the past year has taken an about-turn, but the Colombian has seemed to question the player in recent days and hasn’t gone anywhere near indicating the player’s spot in Russia is secure.
“We’ve all hoped for Gio to be an influential player like he was against the Netherlands [in the 2014 World Cup], and the expectations are very different to the reality. I hope that he is 100 percent and can compete for a place,” Osorio said during the team’s media day last Friday.
Osorio recognized that Dos Santos remains a supremely talented individual who could be a difference-maker, but after the Wales game, he talked again about Dos Santos’ conditioning.
“[With] Giovani, we were very concerned to see how he is doing athletically,” Osorio said. “That’s why we went to the Galaxy-versus-San Jose game.”
Athletic conditioning has been a key part of the Mexican federation’s plan for this pool of national team players. Osorio even said last Friday that “we have to take the 23 that are in the best athletic condition possible to be able to compete.”
Whether Dos Santos falls into that category is debatable, given the injuries, lack of playing time and Osorio’s public concerns over the former Barcelona player.
It all means Dos Santos, who has steered clear of the media of late, is undergoing a tough and important week in Mexico City. Each training session will be vital, and he’ll be looking for significant minutes against Scotland on Saturday, with Osorio having said the door remains open for all the players.
But despite all this, it would go down as a significant surprise if Dos Santos isn’t in Mexico’s squad to travel to Denmark on June 3 and then on to Russia on June 11. The work behind the scenes in crafting a strong and united group has been important, and Osorio stuck with Dos Santos during a 2017 MLS season in which the player struggled.
Dos Santos boasts experience in three World Cups and was a key part of the generation of players who helped Mexico to the under-17 World Cup triumph in 2005. He remains close to Carlos Vela and, obviously, his brother Jonathan. Potential replacements such as Erick Gutierrez, Jurgen Damm or Jesus Molina — who play different positions but give Osorio alternative options — don’t have that major-tournament savvy.
So what will Osorio decide? As the countdown intensifies to the release of the 23-player squad, so will the speculation as to Dos Santos’ inclusion.

Mexico summer time lessons include tolerance with Juan Carlos Osorio and deficiency of depth
New Post has been published on https://othersportsnews.com/mexico-summer-time-lessons-include-tolerance-with-juan-carlos-osorio-and-deficiency-of-depth/
Mexico summer time lessons include tolerance with Juan Carlos Osorio and deficiency of depth
A lot like rest of the world, Herculez Gomez and Sebastian Salazar are break up about Juan Carlos Osorio’s future with Mexico.
It has been a very long summer time for El Tri and one particular that eventually ended in disappointment, with a fourth-position end at the Confederations Cup in Russia adopted by a semifinal defeat to Jamaica at the Gold Cup past Sunday.
Mexico played a match each and every 3.six times about a few nations, successful 9 periods, drawing a few game titles and getting rid of 4. There were being 25 aims scored by El Tri and seventeen conceded. Mentor Juan Carlos Osorio was capable to see 49 gamers in World Cup qualifying, friendlies, the Confederations Cup and the Gold Cup, with forty six of them getting on the discipline.
Listed here are five observations from covering Mexico’s very long and eventful summer time:
one. Osorio’s starting off XI is turning out to be distinct
In a footballing sense, we received incredibly precious lessons. The principal one particular was that irrespective of all the noise surrounding Osorio’s rotation coverage, Mexico’s starting off XI for big game titles is largely set, and the four-3-3 formation is the foundation.
However, that isn’t a complete good. A single of the major disappointments of the summer time was the failure of the youngsters to stand out at the Gold Cup and make a critical claim that they are prepared for the requires of intercontinental football. Probably it was hasty to ask as substantially from Rodolfo Pizarro, Orbelin Pineda and Erick Gutierrez, although the exception was Edson Alvarez, who seemed a class act both equally on and off the discipline.
Mexico’s team at the World Cup is possible to be this: Guillermo Ochoa in purpose, Carlos Salcedo at right-again, Nestor Araujo (although Diego Reyes could phase in) and Hector Moreno as the heart-again pairing, and Miguel Layun the still left-again. In front of them, Hector Herrera is set to participate in the holding function, with Jonathan dos Santos and Andres Guardado handed the far more attacking positions on both aspect. Up front, it’s set to be Carlos Vela, Javier Hernandez and Jesus “Tecatito” Corona.
Osorio could possibly introduce a far more strong holding midfielder as a substitute of Herrera or could possibly beef up the ahead line by putting Raul Jimenez on the wing versus particular opposition, but the previously mentioned is fundamentally the team. There will possible be alterations if there is a weaker opponent in the team phase — which consists of an inherent danger — but total, it is a aspect capable of undertaking effectively at Russia 2018.
two. Short reminiscences provoke excessive criticism
Oct. 15, 2013, should really be a date tattooed in the thoughts of everybody included in Mexican football. It was the working day Mexico arrived incredibly near to not producing a World Cup. It was near to rock base for El Tri, and the collective mindset surrounding the nationwide team should really have altered. Maybe it would have been if Graham Zusi didn’t score that renowned purpose in Panama. But this summer time has shown that there is very little urge for food in Mexico for understanding or tolerance with regards to a very long-expression system that will the natural way contain rising pains. Osorio was even insulted by supporters upon his return to Mexico following the Gold Cup defeat, producing a furore.
In short, the Mexican nationwide team has been the same circus as ever. Worryingly, Osorio became section of it when he missing his head on the sideline versus New Zealand and then versus Portugal in the Confederations Cup.
On the discipline, the notion that Mexico will not have a model — a little something that is broadly opined — is incorrect. El Tri experienced sixty three p.c average possession about the 16 game titles, in accordance to InStat, and a 58 p.c average in the Confederations Cup. The team takes the game to the opposition (which include Germany and Portugal), attacks principally down the wings and takes challenges.
“The principal thing [Mauricio Pochettino, Louis van Gaal and Osorio] have in typical is the intention to generally choose the initiative in the game and participate in attacking football, whoever the opponent is,” Moreno, who has labored below all a few, claimed though in Russia this summer time.
Of program, there is legitimate criticism of the model, and Osorio’s philosophy does have flaws. Can rotations perform in a short match format at intercontinental stage? Ought to Mexico be far more cautious versus elite groups, keeping in thoughts that the total score in critical knockout game titles vs. Chile and Germany the earlier two summers was 11-one?
Does Osorio’s large press permit considerably much too substantially place for groups to counter with lengthier balls on the transition, especially presented that his team performs with only one particular holding midfielder? And why does the manager appear intent on overcompensating for a perceived deficiency of peak by fielding gamers in distinctive positions, with Oswaldo Alanis at still left-again the primary illustration in the Confederations Cup semifinal versus Germany?
Mexico disappointed at two tournaments this summer time, but you can find no cause to ditch Osorio’s very long-expression system.
However, when supporters greet you at Mexico Town airport telling you to depart the nation, it results in being obviously clear that the Mexico work is toxic and one particular number of critical candidates would be prepared to choose on.
Mexico disappointed this summer time but hasn’t accomplished substantially worse than expected in both match. El Tri was arguably poorer in the 2015 Gold Cup below Miguel Herrera, especially taking into consideration it experienced its entire to start with team. And if Mexico is to fulfill its potential on the world phase about a sustained interval, it’ll be for the reason that a studious and very long-expression wondering manager — one particular who is backed by the Mexican federation — implements a system to choose El Tri there.
No matter whether Osorio is that human being can and should really be debated, but it should really be accomplished in the context that Oct. 15, 2013, was not incredibly very long back.
3. The gamers are backing Osorio
The gamers have sounded like a broken history this summer time. Time and time once again, they have praised Osorio. The team’s leaders, Rafa Marquez and Guardado, have been adamant that Osorio is the right human being to choose Mexico ahead. Even the younger Gold Cup gamers claimed the same.
But it was “Chicharito” who despatched the strongest information, describing his “anger” and “unhappiness” at the way Osorio was been given on return to Mexico.
This summer time could possibly have alienated Osorio from Mexico’s supporter foundation and domestic press, but the gamers are entrenched with the manager. They have gone previously mentioned and over and above in supporting him.
Herculez Gomez clarifies why criticism of Juan Carlos Osorio is harsh following Mexico’s elimination in the Gold Cup semifinals.
four. Very long-expression improvement is a central issue
The Gold Cup was far more disappointing than the Confederations Cup. At the latter match, there weren’t much too numerous surprises, but at the Gold Cup, Osorio desired to see more youthful gamers stepping up. All round, they didn’t, posing a legitimate dilemma about whether the following technology of Mexican gamers will be of the same top quality as the present crop.
There is time for the likes of Pizarro, Pineda and the rest to produce, and they possible will. But the depth is a major issue, with Mexico’s prime two divisions more and more populated by foreigners and for that reason restricted possibilities for Mexicans to produce.
For illustration, of the eighteen aims in the to start with weekend of the Liga MX 2017 Apertura, only two were being scored by Mexico-qualified gamers. Target-scoring was a major challenge at the Gold Cup, and other than a handful of strikers, there are not numerous options for Osorio. It’s the same thing for younger Mexican goalkeepers, still left-footed heart-backs and innovative midfielders. This is a challenge any Mexican nationwide team mentor will experience from, and unless of course far more youngsters are presented possibilities to establish themselves, El Tri is possible to wrestle with rising regularity.
There only are not sufficient clubs like Pachuca, Chivas and Santos Laguna, with fantastic youth methods and that are handing younger Mexico nationwide team hopefuls a prospect.
five. Mexico can’t manage accidents
This is related to depth as effectively, but at following summer’s World Cup, Mexico will need far more luck with accidents than it has experienced the earlier pair of months. Accidents to Salcedo and Reyes in the course of the Confederations Cup hampered the team selection for the critical game versus Germany. And Corona’s absence intended he was sorely skipped on the wing.
At the Gold Cup, the pre-match personal injury to Alan Pulido stripped Mexico of arguably its greatest player and a striker who absolutely would’ve netted aims versus the forms of groups El Tri arrived up versus.
