4 days until Neptunia Game Maker R:Evolution is released
Tumblr media
Today marks the 20th anniversary of OS-tan, a Japanese meme that originated on 2chan, depicting several operating systems (namely Windows) as anime girls. ME-tan, their first creation, is based on Windows ME, a bug-ridden mess of an OS that was discontinued by Microsoft not long after it was released. Futaba Channel's portrayal of her is of a ditzy but kind-hearted Cute Clumsy Girl with a leak as an item. Later OS-tans would be followed, from the mature business woman 2k-tan to the lovable big eater XP-tan aka Saseko.
Tumblr media
In 2009, Microsoft Japan released their own official OS-tan to promote the release of Windows 7 in Japan. Her name is Nanami Madobe, a friendly and peppy girl who represents Windows 7 and is voiced by popular idol/voice actor Nana Mizuki. Later on, other members of the Madobe family would be introduced - Yuu and Ai Madobe, the twins who represent Windows 8, Claudia Madobe, the business woman who represents Microsoft Azure, along with a spin-off comic called Cloud Girl, and Touko Madobe , the time traveler from 100 years in the future who represents Windows 10. Microsoft Singapore and Microsoft Taiwan would follow suit with their own respective versions of Internet Explorer and Microsoft Silverlight - Inori and Hikaru Aizawa. Personally I prefer this version over the above version, though both are equally as good.

OpenSilver extends to iOS and Android
Userware has updated its OpenSilver open source UI framework for .NET, expanding the reach of Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) to mobile apps. OpenSilver is best known as a replacement for Microsoft Silverlight, a rich internet application framework that, like Adobe Flash, required a browser plugin. OpenSilver apps run in browsers without a plugin. OpenSilver 3.2, introduced March 18 and…

Video Transcoding: An Essential Process for Content Distribution Across Multiple Platforms
What is Video Transcoding It refers to the process of converting a video file from one format or codec to another. This allows video files captured or encoded in one format to be played back on devices that support different formats. Transcoding is necessary because video formats have different technical specifications for things like resolution, frame rate, audio channels and compression standards. Need for Video Transcoding The need for transcoding arises because videos today need to be consumed across a wide variety of platforms like smartphones, tablets, desktops and streaming devices. However, not all devices or platforms support the same video formats. While a high-resolution movie may play fine on a high-end desktop, the same file may be too large for a mobile device with limited processing power and storage. Transcoding allows video content distributors to create optimized versions of a video tailored for specific devices or networks. Some key reasons why transcoding is required include: - Device and Platform compatibility: As mentioned earlier, different devices have varying support for video formats. Transcoding ensures the video can play on the target device. - File size optimization: Transcoding to lower resolutions and bitrates helps reduce file sizes, important for streaming over cellular networks or for devices with limited space. - Encoding optimizations: Transcoding allows re-encoding videos using optimal encoder settings, codecs and profiles best suited for the target environment. - DRM restrictions: Video Transcoding may need to be converted to formats that support Digital Rights Management (DRM) for distribution through licensing platforms. - Subtitle/Closed caption embedding: Non-burned subtitle/caption streams can be burned into the video during transcoding. Transcoding Workflow A typical video transcoding workflow would involve the following basic steps: 1. Import and Analysis: The source video file is imported into the transcoding system which then analyses key attributes like resolution, frame rate, audio/subtitle streams etc. 2. Profile Mapping: The analyzed data is mapped to pre-defined transcoding profiles configured for various target device classes or bitrate tiers. 3. Transcoding: The source file is transcoded to the appropriate target format(s), resolutions and encoding parameters as per the matched profile using CPU/GPU transcoding. 4. Optimizations: Additional optimizations may be applied like deinterlacing, denoising, ad insertion etc. 5. Quality Check: Random transcoded clips can be checked for quality issues using automated or manual review. 6. Delivery/Distribution: The transcoded files are delivered to various streaming servers, packaged for OTT/VOD platforms or downloaded directly for local playback. Transcoding Formats and Codecs Some common formats generated during transcoding include: - MP4: A popular wrapper format generated at lower resolutions for platforms like iOS, Android, Roku etc. H.264 video with AAC audio is common. - MPEG-2 Program Stream (M2PS): Used for distribution to set-top boxes and cable/satellite systems. - Flash Video (FLV/F4V): Used for progressive download and streaming delivery to desktop browsers. - Microsoft Smooth Streaming (MSS): An adaptive bitrate format optimized for Silverlight/HTML5 delivery. - HLS: A standard HTTP Live Streaming format for OTT on mobile/desktop with H.264/AAC. - DASH: An ISO-standard dynamic adaptive format popular for premium OTT with H.264/AAC or HEVC/AAC. Popular codecs used include H.264, H.265/HEVC for video compression and AAC, MP3 for audio. Selecting the right codecs and container depends on the target audience and delivery network.

Blazor : Will it slay the JavaScript/SPA Frameworks?
It has been a long time since Microsoft allowed support of .NET directly on client-side. The last attempt was with Silverlight which got famous when it launched but due to lack of support from browsers and security concerns it stopped; like what happened to Adobe Flash.
Tumblr media
……………………………………………………………………………………………………
What is BLAZOR?
Blazor is an attempt to bring .NET core to the browser directly which allows supported language like C# to run directly on the browser. Blazor allows developing Single Page Application (SPA) very quickly and by using a single language on both server and client.
Blazor allows having features similar to any other SPA framework like Routing, Template, Binding – one or two way, Rendering, etc.
The name comes by combining Browser and  MVC Razor i.e Blazor.
How does it work?
It entirely relies on WebAssembly (Wasm). Wasm was developed in 2015, to run high-level language directly on browsers. It is supported by W3C which means it is standard and could be utilized by different platform too. There are runtimes available to run C++ codes on browsers too. Since it is from W3C all latest browsers generally have the support of Wasm.
Blazor runs via Wasm but in-between there needs to be a runtime. Mono Wasm allows required .NET assemblies downloads on browser directly which runs on Mono Wasm Virtual Machine.
What are all advantages of Blazor?
A single roof of programming language to build client and server-side codes.
Wasm is generally faster than JavaScript (JS) because those are binary/compiled code. No need for parsing of scripts.
A typed system, a fewer scope of errors due to same. Razor, model binding, etc.
All sweet features of C# and .NET core: Dependency Injection (DI), delegates/events, etc.
Visual Studio Integrated Development Environment (IDE) to allow a rich experience to develop applications quickly with many provided inbuilt or plug-in supported features.
A fallback approach to enable Blazor to run if Wasm is not available to any browser. No issue of Garbage collection like all .NET platform, Mono Wasm supports it too.
Limitations of Blazor
Still is in the development phase, not recommended for production use.
Limited debugging support of Blazor codes since it runs on Wasm.
No way to access DOM elements has to rely on JavaScript for same.
The second biggest, there is not much components/control available in Blazor to have richer User Experience (UX). Like as simple as AutoSuggestion, we have to rely on JavaScript plugin for same.
Demo of Blazor
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IGj49kaYPEc The source code used in demo: https://github.com/viku85/BlazorDemo
Conclusion and Future
Blazor is easy to use with minimal effort in comparison to any JS SPA framework available in the market. Since it is on .NET, there is less learning curve for people coming from the .NET environment.
A lot of changes and development is going on with Blazor, many refinements, performance improvements, feature add-ons but still not having a final version to use on production. I believe with the support of controls like Kendo or inbuilt controls in Blazor, application development would be much quicker and feature rich.
We need to wait for the final release (if it happens) and a wide variety of supported controls which may kill JS Frameworks at least in the Microsoft development environment.

Microsoft
Microsoft was founded by Bill Gates in 1975 and is based in Redmond, USA. Microsoft now has 112 offices worldwide and had sales of $73.72 billion in 2012, while investing $9.8 billion in research. Steve Ballmer has been CEO of Microsoft since January 2000. The company is the world’s leading manufacturer of standard software, services and solutions for people and companies of all industries and sizes. According to the research and consulting institute “Great Place to Work”, the German headquarters of Microsoft in Munich with more than 1000 employees acts as the best IT employer in large companies.
In 2005, Microsoft was the second-best global brand, but it has since fallen to fifth and continues to experience a 2% decline. Although the US group has an almost monopoly on operating systems, it is finding it difficult to compete with competitors such as Google. The company’s success can be attributed to its in-house Windows operating system. It is installed on more than 90 % of the world’s computers and is used by over a billion people.
Business Areas
The “Windows & Windows Live Division” includes the development and marketing of operating systems, online services, software and PC hardware.
The “Server & Tools” area includes Windows Server , Microsoft SQL Server and products such as Visual Studio and Silverlight. Developer tools, training and certifications also fall into this category.
The “Online Services Division” develops online marketing solutions. Examples are Bing, MSN, adCenter and Advertiser Tools.
The “Microsoft Business Division”, MBD for short, develops and markets software and services such as Microsoft Office to increase personal, team and organizational productivity.
Another area is the Entertainment & Device Division, which develops and markets products and services to connect and entertain users. The focus here is on the Xbox 360 entertainment platform. This includes the Xbox console, the compatible Kinect control system, video games, the Xbox Live platform and all Xbox 360 accessories. Furthermore, the EDD includes the Windows Phone and the Mediaroom.
Microsoft’s Bing and SEO
Google is still the undisputed market leader worldwide in the field of search engines. In Germany alone, 88.4% of Internet users use the Google search engine (as of June 2012). For this reason, many search engine optimizers align their strategies exclusively with Google. Even if Microsoft’s search engine Bing is growing in terms of features and extensions and is developing noticeably, Bing only has a 2.5% market share in Germany, with a growth rate of plus 0.2%. Google, on the other hand, has a market share of 90.3% with growth of 0.1% (as of March 2013).

[圖]Microsoft Silverlight將於2021年10月12日停止支持
Tumblr media
它是一個涵蓋多種環境的多平台解決方案,在Windows平台上支持IE瀏覽器、Chrome和Firefox瀏覽器;在macOS系統中支持Safari,甚至還支持WP 7系統中的應用程序。
Tumblr media
