Truck drivers in Michigan have for years smashed into an undersized bridge called The Big Penny. Normal warning signs have not deterred drivers from wedging dozens of trucks into its hungry maw.

So they put eyes and teeth on the bridge, in part as a further deterrent.

The thing about YouTube now: it's a lot of people with the same personalities and intellects from a decade+ ago, except they now have pivoted into dressing themselves up as some breed of documentarian. The odd effect is you get videos which amount to summarizing up some historical event from the Wikipedia article, or presenting a nothingburger theory about SpongeBob, which are edited with the slickness and stylization you'd expect from like, one of those true crime minidocs on TV my mom watches too many of.

honestly i have only seen bits and pieces of it bc i used to have like a legit phobia of horses that is now just kind of a mild distaste bc one nibbled me as a kid and made me distrustful of them forever and when i was in show choir in high school (ofc i was in show choir...) we sang here i am by bryan adams and i loved it

Trying very hard to think what to do this month. I have to catch up on other stuff before I can work on more art for Nightfall. I think my plan with it is very much out of my comfort zone.

Other then that, I have to send a package out this week, once that is done, I don't have too much complicated stuff left to do

Also side note.. Ku found the website that TCR used to make the character concepts you see in one of the minidocs. There is so much to Unreal Engine that I have no clue of. Oh god I'm gonna teach myself UE5 stuff in the coming months, I'm gonna explode. How much more stuff will I need to learn because of this game, I mean it's cool but holy bananas on a stick flying a tWIG-

He isn't accurate some stuff like his nose, skin and stuff still throws me off (I feel like stuff works differently now, maybe they worked with a previous version of this idk). But I am frightened to mess up the face Oh my god his forehead isn't accurate T_T, but, you can see what I wanted to show In the image they shared, they made him look younger than he actually is ingame, I messed around with a slider and found the exact same skinfolds ingame Roper has. Also I think the characters have larger eyes ingame.

I can export the model as "mhb" file but.. converting that to FBX? ahahahahaahahahahahahahah.... no that's extremely complicated and we're still trying to figure it out.

Disclaimers: Take all of this with a pile of salt, I am an insane person. Sweeney Todd is required reading. Long ass post.

The Rose Theory

The cover to bleeders looks like it’s shaped like the head of a red rose. Yes it a blood splatter, but it definitely looks weird right?

Red roses are commonly known as symbols of love and passion, while you could argue Sweeney Todd is a fucked up love story, I think the “passion” in the rose is more referring to a parallel between both Andy and Sweeney’s craft. Andy’s passion for music is basically a given, but what’s important here is how complete dedication to a craft could drive someone mad.

Andy’s matching his experience with music to Sweeney’s character ark in the play. So, passion for killing, passion for music, and that passion manifesting in a tool you can use to enact revenge is clear. Especially with the constant mention of the aspect in the Minidoc

Now the other rose I wanna mention is (what i believe to be) the black roses in the “”Sweeney Biersack”” photoshoot

Take this with a grain of salt but looking at what black roses symbolize,

That’s pretty fuckin Sweeney Todd isn’t it? Yeah? It’s basically fitting pieces into a puzzle at this point. It could be just to represent the gothic vibe of it all. But y’know, everything means something.

Judge Turpin, Villainy, and Sumerian Records

One of the blatant themes in Sweeney Todd is people in power taking advantage of the vulnerable. If you’ve seen the movie, the play, or just kind of skimmed through the plot summary you catch onto this. I think this aspect means more to Bleeders than I initially realized

I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that Sumerian Records treated BVB like shit, especially Andy like shit. I’m pretty sure someone’s out there consolidated all of the shit they’ve done to them better than I could, but I know I’m not an idiot for saying that a power struggle was probably apart of that. When BVB signed to Sumerian they were damn vulnerable. We all know the band was almost torn to shreds and buried into an early grave. A record label is a record label when you’re at that point.

Labels want money, they’re a company. But bad labels are greedy. Especially to passionate artists with extremely dedicated fanbases. Sumerian didn’t want to put in the work to support BVB as a label but liked the money they accumulated. It’s unfair, right? That’s the point. They suck. People in power taking advantage of the weak, those below feeding those up above.

Black veil brides has been fucked over a ton. Wouldn’t being fucked over so much make someone just a little bit angry? Make them wanna go apeshit? You can only be nice for so long, right? You beat someone to a pulp for long enough they’re gonna hit back. Hard. I think this is definitely a project about hitting back, not punching down, but hitting the fuck back. While I marked Sumerian as the “Turpin” in all of this, I theorize it’s the big “fuck you” that the band deserves to put into song. They are finally the villain in all this, but it’s important that they’re the villain with a purpose. Just like Sweeney is.

Directed Anger

Now that’s not to say black veil brides has just made sunshine and rainbows music before, there’s a lot of things that Andy is directly angry at. But some of the songs off of The mourning EP (Devil and Better Angels) seemed like it was the first mark in a clear minded and artistic recounting of a person that’s hurt him and the band. This isn’t God Bless you, where a drunk 18 year old is throwing paper balls at the Catholic Church (even though I still love that song), this is a man frustrated with being fucked over so much and he knows exactly who did it and what he’s gonna do about it. All of this frustration has a target, all of it has a reason. It’s not being *hindered* by anything. It’s a clear shot. Bleeders is just as much about Sweeney Todd as it is about the balloon of anger that’s been building up in this band.

Conclusion? Andy’s an artsy little bastard.

got in to see wicked under the wire before it leaves the theater near my folks and. wow.

despite being a theater kid in the mid-aughts when wicked was The big show, i never got into it. there might have been an element of pretentiousness about it being too popular, but also it kind of always felt like "eh, i'll check it out eventually." the theater kids i spent the majority of my time with weren't super into it so there was less social motivation.

obviously i'm still very familiar with the big numbers because it was inescapable if you went to theater camp, but not the full libretto or anything. i did see it sometime in high school and i enjoyed it a lot, but i didn't immediately seek out the cast recording afterwards so the story never solidified in my brain.

all to say i had no strong attachments going in. i took it as a very good sign that people who love the stage show generally liked-to-loved the movie, because i'm always cautious about movie-musical adaptations (too often it feels like the producers or someone is afraid of someone noticing it's a musical??) so i was definitely optimistic, but i didn't really know what to expect.

it was so. good. i desperately hope a behind-the-scenes minidoc comes out some time about the sets and costume design because damn.

but also, holy shit the gay subtext was so loud it was almost full-blown text. like, i knew people talked about galinda/elphaba and i'd seen stuff about how perfectly "sunshiney one/broody one" and enemies-to-lovers it all is but i vastly underestimated just how much. and obviously the benefits of close-ups helps but. it's also right there in the songs.

and not like i hadn't heard it a gazillion times (again, even if you're not Into wicked, if you're a theater kid in the aughts you're gonna hear those songs at every opportunity) but for some reason it took this time around to sink in just why defying gravity is a gay anthem. it's not just idina menzel being iconic and belting about doing your thing. hoo.

What a cool minidoc about Z! It randomly popped up on my YouTube recs and I’m so glad it did! She talks about the experience of being a girl in a culture that doesn’t have a footballing role for girls, how her determination has served her over the years and why she wants to embrace the idea of being a role model for young girls. A really great watch!
