The students at the school I work at are not encouraged to be artists. There are the few out there who have sketchbooks, but most kids who want one and would use one, won’t be given one. I’m going to bulk order some cheap small ones to gift to the students who want it. I’ve been asking around and making a list and it’s about 20 students so far.

Commission me to help some young artists (11-15 years old) flourish!

It's Valentines Day so why don't I post all the art of Minks' past lovers from my 2023 sketchbook?

Last drawings for the year. I started the marker sketchbook with practicing Terry-Thomas and the character he inspired, Dick Dastardly just to get a better grasp at their faces. I also did a first attempt at the Blake and Mortimer style with Dick on the first page. I only recently finished the actual portrait of Terry-Thomas, because one of my goals was to get better at portraiture and it’s not the best, but to me it came out way better than I expected. Even the little drawing from Make Mine Mink. I’m pretty proud of what I achieved this year.

I've been debating getting myself a tarot deck for the last six months and finally bought myself a blank deck because I want to make it my own and customize it. But before I dare draw anything on the cards and set anything in stone, I'm taking the time to make test designs for the cards in a big 8x11 sketchbook. This is the major arcana (the first 16 cards, though).

As you can see, the major arcana in my test deck are represented by raccoons (because while I do a lot of people drawings I had the idea of doing this as my set instead of my original idea of sci-fi scenes [maybe a future custom deck?]) After I had ordered the deck and it had arrived, the idea struck, so I'm pretty sure that's what this deck wants because that's the theme that popped into my head when I first picked it up. And I really like it, so I'm trying to base it off of the Rider-Waite deck symbolism while implementing my theme with it.

Wands will be represented by amphibians and reptiles, cups will be represented by sharks and rays, swords will be represented by crows and ravens, and pentacles will be represented by mustelids (otters, badgers, wolverines, ermines, minks, etc).

I only have the sketches for the major arcana done so far, but I'm inking them to kind of finalize the ideas I like and so I can do test colors later this week. I won't start drawing for my deck until I have all of my sketches for it complete, but the ideas are there.

For River (she/her)

Personality: gentle, shy around most people, quiet (especially when masking) can get louder and more talkative around friends), will go on and on about nature-related things, a little oblivious sometimes, can be awkward, anxious, but also very trusting once she feels safe around someone

Struggles: has low self esteem, low confidence, anxious, gets overwhelmed by lights and crowds and smells easily, hasn’t spoken to her human family since her mutation (her dad’s not an emotionally safe person and for the rest of her family, she doesn’t want to put them in danger or be a burden)

Body language: wraps arms around body (this is self-regulating behavior not necessarily tied to mood), hands in pockets, fidgets with hoodie strings, doesn’t make eye contact often, expressive ears (perks up and follows sounds when curious, interested, excited; lowers or droops when sad, anxious, worried, tired; far back when scared or angry), (she stims more openly around friends: rocks, makes whip-poor-will and other bird sounds, hums, fiddles with small objects), spooks or startles easily at loud noises, tail wags when excited

Sounds: soft voice, sings when alone, snorts when she laughs, makes a little meep/bleat fawn noise sometimes when startled, huffs when angry

Notices: most anything nature, adores bugs, good at identifying birds, artwork especially if it’s animal-related, shapes and colors, feelings of people she’s close to, she’s very sensitive to smell

Important objects: sketchbook (when she plays games or has long conversations she often draws animals and creatures), weighted plushies (she has a moth, Loch Ness monster and a minke whale), keeps little poppers and succulent-plant-shaped squishies in her pocket, phone

Powers: can grow any plants if she knows what they look like, sometimes she grows plants connected to her emotions that happen almost automatically, (morning glories when happy, ferns when scared sometimes to hide in, moss when sad, the feeling of moss is comforting, thorn bushes when angry), sometimes stims with plants (opening closing flowers, rustling tree leaves, curling uncurling vines etc.); her ghost-like powers (turning transparent and purplish, floating, shrinking, summoning mist) happen occasionally (she can’t really control them) when she’s scared, sad, overwhelmed etc. not very often though

For Ferdinand (any pronouns)

Personality: eager, energetic, curious, craves attention, dramatic, sleepy after she burns herself out, possessive over anything they consider theirs, easily distracted

Struggles: secretly insecure and lonely, (most of the illusion beasts cut ties to earth and Ferdinand can’t remember why he was left behind), has had bad experiences with people who have connected with their pocket dimension in the past, often distrustful, hates bubbles, soap bubbles, bubbles in carbonated drinks etc.

Body language: very cat-like in movements, bats at things, expressive ears, pounces on friends, big stretches, fur puffs up when annoyed, head and neck does that thing that birds’ do stays in place when perch moves beneath it, grooms/preens often, fans wing and tail to appear larger when spooked, will binky (jump and twist in the air) like a rabbit when excited

Sounds: chirps, churrs, purrs, screeches, hisses, sort of androgynous voice but a little more masculine, kind of high-pitched sometimes silky sounding but mostly when describing favorite objects

Notices: anything and everything when out in the real world, especially if it’s shiny

Important objects: gifts of any kind are treasured, cherished, spoken about often, they can be anything, it loves things that are real

Powers: can create illusions, this is most easy for her in its pocket dimension, but can create small ones in the real world, can work together with Hypno to create larger illusions in the real world, knows a lot about the interests and wants of each person who connects to his pocket dimension and tailors the pocket dimension to suit them, shape shifting, could turn into pretty much anything, but doesn’t change form very often, will turn back to their original form or partially so when feeling threatened
