Road to Berlin Episode 8 Highlights: Part 3, New Beginnings

Episode 8 was Minna’s best showing in Road to Berlin to date. Honestly, my Minna quota for the week had been met as much as possible, considering the episode was about Sanya and Eila to begin with.

But little did I know that episode 8 was only a prelude to things to come. When I started watching the preview for episode 9, I lost my mind.

By now, you hopefully know that I’m an avid Minna fangirl. I love her, I truly do, which is why it’s pained me to see her neglected for years. She had plenty to do in Season 1, but in Season 2, things took a turn for the worst. Minna was stuck behind her desk, so much so that Season 2′s fanservice episode lampshaded it directly.

In effect, Minna hasn’t had an episode revolving around her, as a person, since Season 1. I’m not saying she didn’t have stuff to do, but it mostly involved her worrying over Mio, and in recent times, giggling at Gertrud’s unintended antics. Anything about Minna that didn’t come back to her empathy for others has essentially been on hold since the end of Season 1.

But next week, that’s finally going to change!

Before I started watching the preview, I asked myself a question: What would I rather see? More character spotlight episodes, or the beginning of a month-long push to Berlin? In the end, I decided on the latter. Having Operation Southwind spread out over four episodes would serve to hammer home the scope and struggles of the mission.

But from what I can see, it seems that Road to Berlin intends on giving us a character spotlight episode coupled with the beginnings of a push. A highly ambitious endeavor to be sure. And to start with a Minna-centric episode, wow! I couldn’t have hoped for more!

Back when I made a post after the season’s halfway point, I questioned where a Minna-focused episode could even be taken. At the time, I entertained the thought of pairing her up with Lynne. Not only can Lynne use some more love, but supplemental material shows that Lynne has the makings of a commander. Both Minna and Gertrud feel Lynne could be one, a successor to Minna if you will, but she still has much to learn. An episode where Minna mentors Lynne could be amazing.

But that still doesn’t do much for Minna’s personal life. So what to do then? Road to Berlin has the answer, an answer I’ve written about myself but never dared to hope for:

Minna, thinking about her future! The future she wants, the future she can allow herself to dream about. It’s such a good route to take with her that I almost teared up right then and there. What could we be seeing next week, I wonder? Minna ruminating on past, present and future? Thinking about what she’d like to do, after the war’s over and Karlsland can be rebuilt? Perhaps we could even hope for another hauntingly beautiful song from her? I can only imagine!

On to the actual preview, though, because there’s plenty of material here. As you could see in the second screenshot, Minna’s explaining some sort of plan to other people. The start of Operation Southwind?

We see what appears to be a conversation between Minna and Gertrud. Perhaps they’re discussing their futures. Minna’s fond smile certainly seems to indicate something like that.

I assume Erica will also be present during this conversation, and maybe Ursula too. Still, part of me can’t help but wonder and dream its own, silly dreams. What if it is just the two of them? What if they‘re going to have a tender heart-to-heart? Could there even be a hug? 

(I know I know, Trude x Erica is all but canon since episode 6. It was so romantic that even I started referring to Erica as Gertrud’s wife. But part of me wants to hope for something. It doesn’t have to be overtly romantic; a simple touch or a fun shared moment will do. Something that further cements the strong friendship these two have.

Tl;dr: I want Minna x Trude hugs!)

Ahem! Anyway...

I was momentarily perplexed by this reused footage from episode 6. Yes, the sky is much different; the lighting is darker all around, and the sky is clouded instead of clear, but it’s undeniably the same shot. Road to Berlin has reused footage a couple of times, but I’ve always felt like it was within acceptable parameters, so it never bothered me much. This was really odd, though. I still wonder if this is actually some sort of dream sequence.

But it probably isn’t, because it led into this:

Holy crap. Holy crap! That’s not Minna’s Striker; it’s not even a reciprocating Striker. That’s a Jet Striker!

I’d expected the Jet to make a return in some form, but when Shirley and Gertrud’s episodes passed without any mention of it, I assumed we weren’t going to see one of these again. But lo and behold, we hear Ursula Hartmann’s voice in the preview, and Minna is the one wielding the awesome power of a Jet! What a subversion of my expectations!

And finally, we received the title of episode 9 (and a fun Sanya-shaped detail in the background). It’s perfect, that’s all I can say.

I honestly have no idea where episode 9 is going to pick up. Maybe we’re seeing final preparations for Operation Southwind, and the aerial battle is simply a defensive one at Kiel. They certainly seem to be lacking in proper coffee, so maybe they’ve moved to Kiel temporarily.

We also heard Gertrud, Erica and Ursula’s voices during the voiceover, so they’ll likely feature with varying degrees of importance. Perhaps they’ll all chip in with reflections on a peaceful future.

But one thing’s for sure: Minna’s thoughts and feelings, her hopes and dreams, those are going to be the real heart of the episode. And I can’t wait!

HKT48 #MeruMio combi, Seriously using the camera through SNS ! What is the reason ?

Tashima Meru(17) Tomonaga Mio (19)  , 2nd Gen MeruMio Combi who pulled the group as they are, recently  doing something in SNS, ModelPress conducted an interview between these 2 about "Self Help by the SNS"

  Together passed 2nd Gen audition in 2012. Tashima selected as the center for 1st single "Suki Suki Skip" in 2013, after that Experienced double center in 2nd single "Melon Juice" 3rd single Sakura Minna de tabetta",  They are grown  to led the Group Also rank in at Sousenkyo.In september 2017, with 2nd Gen,3rd Gen and 4Gen"HKT48 Freshmember Concert in Hakataza, Future is our hand..." the event was succesfull to led the junior member.

Q1) Tashima-san, talking about "MeruCamera", what is inspired you to start it ?

Meru : I like to taking a photo,  Sasshiko (Sasshihara Rino ) said when i take a good photo, i was told "Just Bought a camera , cause it must be very good"

Mio : She said that right~

Meru : Cause it has been said for long time, When im start doing twitter, how about do planning with the twitter? When i thought about that, i was thinking to buying a proper camera, so i did. I decided to travel and do various thing and take a picture with the camera ( Meru Camera model is Panasonic LUMIX GF9 )

 Q2) Tashima-san also took a photo member, do they asked to be "shoot" too?

Meru : There are such things like "Can i take your picture?', But i like to take a picture without permission (laugh). Person who had nice smile are pretty easy to take.

Q3) So is that a there's technique?

Meru : That's right, Someday i think it would be nice to publish a HKT48Photobook bt gathering the picture i took.

Q4) On "Tomo to "  (project that shoot member serialized in FRIDAY magazine) How about the reaction from the fans?

Meru : I often say things like " Its MeruCamera" (laugh) said " Please more photos" and suggested " How about thid kid ?'(Laugh) , I think i wuld like to continue as it become more popular.

 ~Tomonaga-san recently had an impression to update the Instagram frequenly. Have been introducing makeup items and wearing fashion too, but what chance that you start doing it ?

Mio : Yes, Since im doing SNS, there's alot male fans, i think i would like to make lot women to know me more. Im start to going to various place, buy new makeup items as much as possible, although for me, it would be nice if you can see and use it, So im doing with taking a picture too.

Q5) Do you like to makeup things too?

Mio : I like makeup very much, I was helped by makeup-san and she bought me various makeup tools too.

Q6) But there's no place to show it ?

Mio : Yes. it was quite difficult, but when i start Instagram one years ago, and thinking it was a good opportunity.

Q7) In Instagram, The hastag maybe will make notice to the people which is not fans, do you feel it ?

Mio :Abosultely dont know,cause it was content for the ladies,Until now the Male fans is making more comment on it , but recently the comment from girls alo have been increased. There also kids who came to the Hanshake event too, si i would like to work more harder.

Q8) Is there any some point you're sticking with ? ?

Mio : Although i would like to put the clothes when take a shot, but i want to my face include too (laugh) Im thinking about the portion of clothes and my face , i will do my best.

Meru : I like disneyland, because the fans also now i like disneyland, when i posting about disneyland , there's great reaction too.

Meru :  Its about kind of photogenic, but when its too much fun there, im forget to take picture and often to take a pict in hurry (laugh)

Q10) How about Tomonaga-san?

Mio :  I have the clothes that connect with a ribbon...

 Q11) Oh when the injection right (laugh)

Mio : Yes. Since it was happened , wearing those clother when times of vaccination,I posted that " It was good clothes,for Injection??" lol , I said about lot things like ,"Its cute but interesting". I should look for such and interesting clothes (laugh?)

Q) in the album , That's the shooting for short film was filmed on by one ?

 Meru : The content is feels with quite warm feelings. Im shot with a baby, The baby cried when there's not a scene to cry, then baby suddenly fall asleep, it the tired moments, but the mother is amazed me, even though the baby crying, i was really moved by seeing the mom stopping the the crying as soon hugged the baby

Q)  Mom is always there ,

Meru : Thats right, I had my picture with the baby too, But the baby getting bigger by unnoticed, Im surprised by the growtness of the baby

Q) How about the shooting ?

Meru : Its was lot of fun. The director tells me to play with full of my heart instead being scripted, It was difficutl, But it was  fun acting, and " I want to act more in the future

Q) Do you interested in actress work ?

Meru : I wanted to do acting ( laughed )

Q) How about Tomonaga-san ?

Mio : it was so Gorgeous! Feeling Suspense for 2 Hours,

Because the content also suspense, I was really nervous, Acting with lot of tension, But i think i was able to put on the other side of me, Because im continued said as " Bouyomi"(laugh). Im seriously challanged my self. It would be good if i could show the different side of me to the fans

Q) This time please to make an appeal to who wondering about buy the album

Mio : You'd better buy it !!

Meru : Its including 11 Hours for all the movie, i have an amazing feels in the bonus footage.

Mio : its become one

Meru : I think its a big album, and its not going happen anymore,I hope you can get it .

Meru : I'd like to have a concert soon

Mio : Yeah, Me too.

Meru Yes, Speaking of HKT48, i have been goin on concerts, but i can't do it now, i think it would be nice to have a concert

Meru: We're also could make an Album now

Mio : Since there are already the number of songs enough to make live with HKT48 only song

Q) Surely, Talking about HKT, live performances, it was only sing idols and AKB48G songs.

Meru : Thats right, I hope to get see more people, that what i want to do next year

Alle ore 19.30, la Sala Sinopoli dell’Auditorium Parco della Musica ospiterà il film di apertura della quattordicesima edizione della Festa del cinema di Roma, Motherless Brooklyn – I segreti di una città di Edward Norton.

“Il cinema italiano ha avuto un impatto enorme sui miei gusti e le mie aspirazioni da cineasta – ha affermato il regista – e quindi aprire la Festa del Cinema di Roma con il mio film è la realizzazione di un desiderio. È davvero un grande onore e ne sono estremamente felice. E credo che, sebbene si tratti di un’epopea americana e di un noir ambientato a New York, il pubblico italiano sentirà immediatamente la risonanza dei temi nell’ambito del loro vissuto più recente”.

Heyyo minna! It’s Ryuji Tatsuya with yet another anime rant! So lately I have come across a few anime series where the characters’ faces seem to be awfully similar to that of other anime characters in the past. When I did my research about that, I realized that there are quite a few characters like that. That’s why today, I decided to make a list of some of the characters who were caught under my supervision. So without any further delay, let’s get right into it!

Tendou (Haikyuu) and Hisoka (Hunter x Hunter)

I remember my reaction when I was watching the third season of Haikyuu. The moment Tendou made his appearance in the series I remembered yelling “HOLY SHIT! IT’S HISOKA!!” in the middle of the episode (Even though I haven’t seen HXH, I was kinda familiar with the character Hisoka). Well, the odd stares I got from my family is a different story, but it turns out that I wasn’t really wrong and many other people also noticed and pointed that out.

Haru (My Little Monster) and Houtarou (Hyouka)

Ok I admit that this is a no brainer, because it’s almost everywhere on the internet; but still, I think these two characters literally are brothers separated at birth (Stolen Old meme lel). Even though their behaviours are COMPLETELY different from each other, I guess it isn’t considered cheating if I include them here, ne?

Manabe (Kotoura san) and Kyon (The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya)

These characters are the reason I decided to write this post (Even though the idea of doing so was in my mind for more than a month now). No matter how you look at it, these two are literally a xerox of each other (Except the fact that Manabe has a childish af portrayal with low budget character sketch while Kyon had a kinda better and more serious portrayal) Also, nevermind the change in attitude of the two characters.

Izumi (Parasyte the maxim) and Yuri (Yuri on ice)

First things first, I have not watched Yuri on Ice yet and I certainly don’t think I will be watching it any time sooner (Calm down LGBT community), but thanks to the immense hype it got in 2016, there was no way that I would have missed the uncanny similarity between these two characters. In my opinion, I would say Izumi is like the older brother who is juuuuuuuuuuuuuuuust a little smarter than his little brother, Yuri. Still, I will have to agree that the cooler side of Yuri was way better than that of Izumi.

Yu (Charlotte) and Takumi (Battery)

I just finished watching Battery and that’s why the great similarity between these two facial characters is vivid clear on my mind. All the while I watched Battery, I was calling Takumi ‘The Yu Otosaka of a poor budget anime’; I still don’t think it was wrong of me to do so. The thing that kinda irritated was the fact that even though Yu had a great character development by the end of the series, Takumi was still the same old arrogant freak who knew nothing except being all high and mighty (At least try to be a little bit positive like Yu, ya faulty Xerox character!).

Mio (K-On!) and Tamako (Tamako Market)

Close your eyes and imagine Mio Akiyama. Now slowly imagine her in a little younger version, maybe like in middle school. Now give her a twin tail and little bit cheerful personality; TADA! You have created Tamako! To be honest, even though Tamako is 99% similar to Mio, in case of character sketch, she is still way too far to reach her class. ALL HAIL GODDESS MIO!!

Akame (Akame ga Kill) and Shino (Seitokai Yakuindomo)

While Akame spilled blood by killing every enemy of the Night Raid, Shino, on the other hand, spread laughs by cracking outright sexual jokes every minute. I haven’t completed Akame ga kill (Because f**k bad endings, f**k action and f**k my life), I don’t think I would love her as much as I love Shino (For being a perverted comedian myself, I admire you a lot!). It’s just as the old saying goes, “Spread laughter, not hatred” (Now don’t ask me who said that………. Or if that is even a real thing).

Elze (Issekai wa smartphone no tomo ni) and Kyou (Clannad)

While the former series is just a big compilation of almost all the fantasy and magical anime clichés possible, Elze and her younger sister (Forgot her name XD) are maybe a rip off of the Clannad sisters. Elze and Kyou’s personality, affection towards their sister as well as the hairband’s position are really really similar to each other. I’m calling first dibs on Elze being a failed copy of Kyou.

Haruhara (FLCL) and Yano (Kimi ni Todoke)

In one of the videos of The Anime Man, I came across this character called Haruhara. While I have no idea how her personality might be like, I remember thinking to myself that maybe he did some kind of mistake, as instead of Haruhara, the name should be Yano (Later I found out that it wasn’t my mistake at all). If you guys know about this character then be sure to tell me about her, but for now, I guess I’ll be calling her Yano-chan v2.

Some Anime Characters with Similar Faces Heyyo minna! It’s Ryuji Tatsuya with yet another anime rant! So lately I have come across a few anime series where the characters’ faces seem to be awfully similar to that of other anime characters in the past.

For X-Wing Miniatures: Rebel and Resistance pilot cards are in the Naoe, Waltrud, and Nikka box.

Imperial and First Order pilot cards are in the Edytha and Gundual box.

Scum and Villainy pilot cards are in the Nikka and Aleksandra box.

Astromech, crew, Salvaged Astromech, and Elite Talent upgrade cards are in the Shimohara and Georgette box.

Huge ship upgrades (Hardpoint, team, and cargo), Advanced Technology, Systems, Modifications, and Title upgrade cards are in the Karibuchi sisters box.

Secondary weapons upgrade cards (bombs, cannons, missiles, torpedoes, and turrets) are in the Perrine, Mio, and Minna box.

Finally for Armada cards, I put squadron cards in the 502nd squadron box (may put objective cards for the game in their as well), and the upgrade cards for that game with the Lucchini and Shirley box. I couldn’t fit the ship cards from Armada because they’re tarot card size, but I still have a good place to store them.

She grew on my a lot for sure. I like her a lot more than Mio too; Mio is too reckless, and can set a poor example for those she leads.

Funny how Mio is so reckless, since she apparently prides herself on having never lost a wingman... For all the calm she exudes, she’s awfully keen to whet her blade. I’d guess that’s the inner conflict of calm leader and ferocious warrior at work there. I’d like her more if she learned from her mistakes, but she doesn’t really, so... NEXT!

I think it’s especially nice to see Perrine’s growth throughout the franchise. She starts out with her jealousy overinflated, then at the end of season 1 she starts growing fond of Yoshika. In season 2 she is genuinely conflicted about the ways she can--and has--helped rebuild Gallia. 

The movie and the OVA just show her as a balanced person after all that. Someone who’s at peace, who can look at the past and learn from it to benefit the present and the future, but still has those sharp personality traits that distinctly make her Perrine. She’s also far better at showing her caring side to people. 

(Bonus schadenfreude: I feel like she and Minna are less overtly affectionate towards Mio after season 2, as if they’re getting over her in a sense. Of course, the OVA then introduces Heidemarie who, although I like her a lot, is yet another Squadron Leader in the way of Minna x Trude... Oh well.)

I think late-in-her-career Perrine would be an excellent role model for a lot of Witches. And so the cycle continues!

Alle ore 19.30, la Sala Sinopoli dell’Auditorium Parco della Musica ospiterà il film di apertura della quattordicesima edizione della Festa, Motherless Brooklyn – I segreti di una città di Edward Norton.

“Il cinema italiano ha avuto un impatto enorme sui miei gusti e le mie aspirazioni da cineasta – ha affermato il regista – e quindi aprire la Festa del Cinema di Roma con il mio film è la realizzazione di un desiderio. È davvero un grande onore e ne sono estremamente felice. E credo che, sebbene si tratti di un’epopea americana e di un noir ambientato a New York, il pubblico italiano sentirà immediatamente la risonanza dei temi nell’ambito del loro vissuto più recente”.

Festa del Cinema di Roma 2019: il programma di domani

Il tre volte candidato all’Oscar Edward Norton (Birdman, American History X, Schegge di paura) ha diretto, scritto, prodotto e interpretato Motherless Brooklyn – I segreti di una città. Norton interpreta Lionel Essrog, un solitario detective privato affetto dalla sindrome di Tourette, che si avventura a risolvere l’omicidio del suo mentore ed unico amico, Frank Minna. Armato solo di pochi indizi e della sua mentalità ossessiva, Lionel svela lentamente dei segreti gelosamente custoditi che tengono in equilibrio il destino dell’intera New York. In un mistero che lo porta dai jazz club grondanti di gin di Harlem ai bassifondi di Brooklyn e, infine, ai salotti dorati dei potenti mediatori di New York, Lionel si scontra con i criminali, la corruzione e l’uomo più pericoloso della città per onorare il suo amico e salvare la donna che potrebbe essere la sua stessa salvezza. Sul red carpet del film, alle ore 19, ci saranno Edward Norton con Gugu Mbatha-Raw e Bobby Cannavale. Motherless Brooklyn – I segreti di una città sarà proiettato in replica alle ore 20 presso la Sala Petrassi e alle ore 21 presso la Frecciarossa Cinema Hall.

Al via anche il programma degli Incontri Ravvicinati con il pubblico. Alle ore 17, Ethan Coen, regista, sceneggiatore, produttore, montatore e drammaturgo, salirà sul palco della Sala Petrassi per ripercorrere la sua trentennale carriera: insieme al fratello Joel, Ethan ha realizzato una straordinaria opera pervasa da un’ironia cinica e impietosa che ha fornito uno sguardo nuovo e originalissimo sul cinema contemporaneo. I due hanno firmato pluripremiati successi come Blood Simple – Sangue facile, L’uomo che non c’era, Il grande Lebowski e Ladykillers. Con Fargo si sono aggiudicati l’Oscar per la Migliore sceneggiatura originale e per la Migliore attrice protagonista, andato a Frances McDormand, mentre con Non è un paese per vecchi l’Academy li ha premiati per il Miglior film, la Miglior regia e la Migliore sceneggiatura non originale.

Nel primo giorno della quattordicesima edizione della Festa del Cinema sarà inoltre inaugurata ,nel foyer della Sala Sinopoli, la mostra “Cecchi Gori – Una famiglia italiana” che sarà visitabile fino al prossimo 27 ottobre. Basata interamente su materiali inediti, riscoperti per l’omonimo documentario prodotto da Giuseppe Lepore e diretto da Simone Isola e Marco Spagnoli, l’esposizione intende ripercorrere la storia di una delle più importanti realtà produttive della storia del cinema italiano. Gli scatti proposti nella mostra provengono dall’archivio privato di Vittorio Cecchi Gori e non sono mai stati visti prima da non appartenenti alla famiglia e all’entourage Cecchi Gori. Sono immagini straordinariamente preziose che raccontano la storia del cinema italiano più popolare: dalla commedia degli anni Sessanta, con Risi, Sordi, Lattuada, fino ai nuovi comici degli anni Ottanta e ai successi internazionali colti da Vittorio Cecchi Gori negli anni Novanta.
